What a trash article by GolfDigest (reinforces my decision to cancel years ago).

 

Wasn’t a fan of AK back in the day.  Never a fan of the SoCal I don’t really care, but still flashy look at me bro vibe he put out.  The more the media fawned over him the more I rooted against him (that’s a standing personal fault of mine to this day applying to several current players through no fault of their own).  Alternatively, the more a player is preemptively dismissed the more I find myself rooting for them.

 

It makes for a (possible) cool comeback story.  Underdog against all odds story.  A nobody has ever done it, can you believe that happened story.  
 

Instead GD actually prints a story AK shouldn’t even try and should just go away?  How obtuse.

The GD story is pretty weak.  I was somewhat indifferent towards Kim, not a hater but not a big fan.  I hope he does well though.  I don't have high expectations but it would be a nice story if he plays at a respectable level. Everyone appreciates the comeback or underdog story.   I never liked the idea of the media or the fans telling players when it's time to hang it up.  The game does that naturally.  I also don't like the common practice of miscasting an athlete as the messiah and then turning them into a pariah.  If Kim want to play, whether it's to compete again or simply for the money, he should go for it regardless of what it does to the mythology of his career.

I think the GD story was actually realistic and honest. I would have been more excited if he had actually earned his way into an event or qualified for an event. But Greg is so desperate for viewers he probably just backed up the truck and asked him what he wanted.

 

I'd say I'll be stunned if he finishes in the Top half of the field but the fields are so weak I guess anyone can catch lightning in a bottle.

I have a feeling AK will do better than most are expecting.  Who's to say maybe he's been preparing for a return and he just might surprise a lot of folks.  On the surface the AK debut might be one of LIV's biggest viewing audiences.  Because of AK I'll be tuning in to see how he's doing at every event-something I havn't been doing for the others who are there.

I couldn't agree more. Once a Saudi employee puts on the red clown nose it seems like they go into a trans like they've been captured by aliens. I might be exaggerating a little bit but not by much.
