With all due respect Cupcake. These types of post/comments are amongst the worst on WRX IMO. Because based on them we shouldn’t be critical of and player unless we have equaled or bested their achievements on the course. If that were the case, this place would be a virtual ghost 👻 town!
😂

*and the internet as we know it would cease to exist!

**maybe not a horrible thing!

***okay, I’m off to Home Depot 😊

If you have never designed and built a home…no make that a skyscraper….or an oil refinery you have no business visiting a Home Depot-or posting about it!😏

The fact that people in golf are getting excited for an average former tour player nearing the age of 40 returning to the game that's been gone for 12 years should consider this. AK has 1 more tour win than Ted Potter, Jr. (2), has the same number of tour wins as D.A. Points (3) and has 1 less tour win including a major championship than Ben Curtis (4) is a definite sign that golf is in a bad spot professionally if this is what qualifies as exciting and is being celebrated.

AK is not some all time great coming back to the game. No matter how many people have over glorified him and his on course results.

I should have stated professionally above. And lets he honest golf professionally overall is in a bad state. That can not even be debated.

And Hunter Mahan has twice as many wins as AK and is just three years older and disappeared about the same time.

But AK did have the belt buckles!

Just a horrendous take and not funny, and not even the right analogy to use in this context. Try again, sir.

LOL! .... Now that would be something. More eyeballs than the $600M man, Rahm.

This move reaps of desperation. Thow the rabid LIV fans a little red meat.

Either way, though you can't blame AK for taking advantage of a lucrative opportunity.

If AK is a complete failure, it will be hard for most to take that league seriously and if he's a success it will still be hard to take that league seriously..... IMO

We all know what Rahm looks like unless people wanna see his calves. AK had that what if to him, the mystique of possibly playing again one day, etc.

No matter where he went he will get eyes. Now if he shoots a 92 it's just short term but LIV probably wants those views.

Yeah, but it can be debated, and I and others are doing so. Nothing you said factually shows the game to be in a bad state. Ratings say otherwise. Heck, one of the top guns trying to get the ball rolled back says otherwise. People being interested in someone who made a splash trying to return to the game doesn't indicate that the game is in a bad place. Whatever foolishness led to the outlandish dollars paid to get players to defect from the Tour, that money certainly wasn't spent because golf is in a bad spot.

Feel free to show something other than your opinion that people wanting to see AK is an indicator of bad times for pro golf and then you have an argument. As of now all you're relying on is your opinion AFAICT. You're entitled to it, and others are free to disagree.

I'm just saying he could shoot whatever. He'll have the most eyes and crowd around him that event.

In general LIV should set the courses up more difficult so the best players have a greater chance to win.  Rahm, Cameron Smith and a few others would separate themselves on tough layouts.

PGAT certainly has a number of players past their prime, not top 20 players, or up and comers. But unlike LIV, each of them earned their way onto the PGAT and/or have kept their cards. They weren’t placed under contract just because their Tour needed players with name recognition to fill out the field.

That argument doesn't stand up because every single one of the LIV guys had status on either the DP World or PGA Tour as far as I can tell....

I can point to The Sentry for padding the field, to get a field.

I’m late to the party here. Not sure anyone has said this yet, I didn’t read any of the responses. @King_Slender bravo for the name of this thread. Frankly, this is going to sound like it’s a little early, I’d like to nominate this as the best title to a thread for 2024. I have a hard time imagining anything will beat it.

A bit over half of them did….the rest were to fill the 48.  Actually, it’s probably most if you use the term liberally.  Most of them had “some” version of status.  If you read how the PGA Tour fields are filled it goes waaaay beyond just the top 125.

Feel free to show something other than your opinion that people wanting to see AK is an indicator of good/great times for pro golf and then you have an argument. As of now all you're relying on is your opinion AFAICT. You're entitled to it, and others are free to disagree. Thanks though for providing a nearly completed reponse to you.

That said AK going to the mercenary tour after being out of professional golf for 12+ years is no different than some average level MLB/NHL/NBA player that had some previous fanfare and limited success over a season or two possibly returning to their sport.

AK isn't some all time great of a sport returning to their sport after a prolonged absence. TBH AK is closer to being considered a (and I dislike this term) journeyman PGA Tour player than being a player of any sort of sustained or prolonged success.

IOW to me he's like a MLB utility player that had one career year when he hit .300 and fielded well for a contender then quickly faded away whether it was due to injury, apathy, boredom or whatever else drove him away. I'm sure we will disagree and that's fine. We all believe what we want. Have a great evening. Fun back and forth.

AK was off the tour in 2012 for injury. Never came back. Quit for whatever reason(s).

Mahan had 3 or 4 excellent years after his own 2 win season in 2012. Including another win. He also W/D from an event (Canadian Open) after two rounds when leading for the birth of his child. Mahan didn't start falling off a cliff play wise until the 2016/17 season. Played until the 2020/21 season. His career arc is very different than AK. Including double the wins.

This will go very badly for AK and LIV

Hes 37 and hasn’t played tournament golf, much less pro golf, for how long

He will shoot a bunch of 80s, maybe 90s

It will be cool, then funny, then a bad joke

AK should have been bought in as an on course announcer or something. The “legend” status was cool, but this will go sideways fast

Not sure it will go that badly but I doubt he is anywhere near contending.
