2023 Cobra King CB & Tour

I’ve spent extensive time at the range with a king tour and testing Wilson staff cb vs mp 221.

 

my opinion is the tour is a much larger profile of club (the sole and heel to toe length are very differebt). Tour will be more forgiving for most, launch higher, and provide more ball speed.

 

a better comparison would be the cobra cb and Wilson staff cb.  They are going to feel more like a solid forged club and be more compact.

this was supposed to be the year i stayed committed to one set. i was good until late august then everything fell apart lol. so i’ve gamed mizuno 225, og zx7/5 and now the king tours. king tours blow the other two out of the water on looks, feel and performance. they are so freaking good. hard for me to say they’re not the best iron cobra has ever produced.

First iron from cobra I’ve ever played and I would be confident saying these are the best they’ve produced lmao. I can’t get over how perfect these are. I’ve never once not thought about changing a club, these irons are staying…. Until I replace them with a fresh set of the same

I hit these in a fitting Friday. They were really good. Better then the t200/t150 and my srixon zx5. Ordered a set. Can't wait until they get here

These irons are so freaking good. I've had 3 consecutive rounds with a 9 under 40, which is huge for me, and it's due in large part to the king tours. Like a sociopath I ordered some other sticks to battle them, but it will take a massive effort for something else to oust them.

Me too - 0317 T's and a set of T150/200.....may the strongest survive.....Both will be challenged to unseat the KingTours....

Would like to hear how the 317 t compare.  Never hurts to have a backup set.

I had a set of 

0317ST in the 7-PW

0317CB in the 6,7

0317T in the 5,6

 

Yes I know that is a lot of overlap, yes I know the ST's are pure blades.  With that being said I had both 7's at the same length and loft and both 5 irons the same length and loft.  I ordered a set of King Tours after having hit just about everything(except the new Titleist's which weren't out at the time), and I can say a few things about them all, as I did have a set of the last generation T100 and T100s blended.

 

The King Tours are NOT a super flex face super distance set of irons, not when compared like for like lofts and lengths.

 

7 irons - I saw roughly the same ball speed between the 7 irons in the same lengths and lofts for the 0317ST, 0317CB, and king tours.  There was a smidge more launch out of the tours than either the CB or ST's.  Spin was within 100 RPM of each other.  For my swing the Tour's were better through the turf.  I will also say the Tours are more forgiving on toe side misses than the CB and way more than the ST's.  The ST's felt a little better to me, and the CB's about the same as the tours.

 

5 irons - I saw the Tour and CB to have roughly the same ball speed, launch(launch a smidge higher with the tours) and spin.  Toe side miss better on the tour, and the tour is better through the turf.  Now the 0317 were quicker in ball speed, same in launch and had less spin.  Not as good through the turf, and not as good on toe side misses.  

 

I have hit the new T150 now, and while they are good, they aren't as good as the Tours.

Great comparison. Always hard to tell from photos but they look quite comparable. Is the PXG slightly sleeker in terms of top line, sole width, overall size?

Blade length looked almost identical to me, top line on the 0317T is ever so slightly thinner (I think ? It's hard to tell). 
 

the sole is where I noticed the most difference. The 0317T is slimmer and there is some relief on both the leading and trailing edge. 
 

The pxg footprint might be a tough smaller overall but it's splitting hairs at that point.

KTs might low key be the best irons I've hit. Certainly the best under the radar iron on the market. Will be a fun experiment. Not planning on selling either set, both seem to suit me perfectly.

AGREED 

Gamer is the KT and I am not sure it is going anywhere....have a set of T's and t150/200 combo both build built up to challenge the King Tours......so underrated...we"ll see

The new T100 kicked the Tours out of my bag at least temporarily. 
 

When I was fitted for the T100 I was getting better ball speed out of the T100. The Tours are bent 2° weak which I think delivers too much bounce for me. The T100 works for me because of the thin sole. 
 

That all being said, I have not given up on the Tours. I hope to do a lot more testing over the winter. The Tours are probably my favorite iron I’ve owned aside from MP4/MP32.

Interesting. I was considering getting a set of tours and bending two degrees weak as well. You feel that the two degrees of additional bounce is perceptible or just that the narrower sole of the T100 works better for you regardless?

Good question; I think I’m pretty sensitive to the bounce of an iron because my angle of attack is so shallow. Thinner soles seem to work better for me which is why I always seem to gravitate towards blade like designs. It’s a shame because I’d love to play some point and shoot GI irons. 

 

The Tours are great irons. I could easily game them. I haven’t ultimately decided the T100 will permanently kick them out of the bag until I do more testing. Right now work is eating up a ton of time so I can’t really do much head to head testing at the moment. 
 

Lately though when I get out to the range, I’ve been working to get more down on the ball and move my low point forward. If I can get the ball speed of the Tours to match the T100, I’d probably game the Tours over the T100 just due to the extra level of forgiveness. The T100 is surprisingly forgiving for its size.

Put the 0317T up against the KT and I just hit the cobras so much better. It's such a complete iron.

This is good to hear I was debating pxg gen 5 or 6 p irons or 0317t.  Course I'm not sure about the gapping between my ping g430 4 hybrid and the kt 5 iron. I'm thinking a I have a big gap between the two. Debating king utility 5 or pxg gen5 5 hybrid.

I just click so well with them. Can't put my finger on it. They play like a big fat GI club yet look and feel just perfect.

t200 utility...that sounds VERY Interesting......how does it blend with the KT's?
