Bryson's new PING irons (*** NO LIV REFERENCES/DISCUSSIONS ***)

I'd argue wasting gapping on 3 chippers is a mistake.

I go

48⁰ - 165

54⁰ - 140

60⁰ - 125

Anything under 125 is 60⁰ unless I'm playing in heavy wind.  Adding 2 more clubs is just wasted space.

My bigger challenge is filling the sub 3 wood tee shots and long par 5 approaches when the swing is feeling good.

I play a 2 iron for stingers and a 5 wood that spins 5k+ and is basically a 250-280 wedge that rips back.

Those two clubs provide way more utility than complicating my wedge game.

What does a 54 accomplish that a flighted 60 doesn't?

stats reflect this position…. You are better carrying clubs that help you hit more GIR from farther out than wasting clubs on wedges… i don’t even take a full swing at shots inside 100 yards…. They are all knock down or flighted shots using different irons and wedges.

much rather use the spots for UI/ hybrids / wood to have better approaches.

then again…. NO one is paying me money to play golf… so what do I know.

What stats back this up?  There are more shots within 150 yards than 175-225, so wouldn’t it make sense to carry more wedges?  I’ve been thinking about this with my gapping, carrying 5 wedges that are 12 yards apart instead of worry about having a 210 and a 225 club.

I always wonder….what is the payoff for Ping here? They probably spent hundreds of man hours and thousands of dollars dialing these in. Outside of this forum, zero people will know or care. Ping will never release these and even if they did - 10 people will buy them. I guess you are hoping he wins a major this year?

Payoff is reg people seeing or hearing that Bryson is playing Ping. Doesn't matter what irons, woods, etc.... He's playing Ping and people will look at Ping because of him.

That G410 Crossover was so hot off the face .

I’ve only hit the 425 Crossover.  Seemed to be a higher and softer landing ball-flight than my 425 hybrid.  Really interesting since I would have thought the opposite.  It still felt hot though.

Might be something different in the DNA there between the two.

Or not...

3w - 250

4i - 215

6i - 200

45 - 140

50 - 125

54 - 110

58 - 95

62 - 80

Like I said not really worth arguing if you can hit a 5w 280 yards...  We obviously play different games.  I'm sure you have an opinion on me side saddle putting too, lol.

Whatever the brand probably just 4-5 of them since the 60* goes 125 yards...

I don't even understand how your gapping works if your 5w goes 280 and your 60* goes 125...

If your wedge goes 165, that should make your 9i go 180, 8i goes 195, 7i go 210, 6i is 225, 5i 240, 4i 255, stinger 2i goes 370, 5w goes 280 but backs up to 270 lol.

Yea but what do you hit 75 yards

I'm pretty sure Ping was willing to spend the time and money to build a custom set for Bryson. Even if nothing comes of it there's an opportunity for them to pick up some good engineering and design analysis for future clubs from a top tour player that's willing to think outside the box.

Agree 100%.  For sure they used this as an opportunity to tinker with the one-length idea, even if they will never release these.   Ping made irons for Sergio Garcia too and he was never a Ping staffer.  Ping will not sign Bryson to any equipment deal.

Wow, that was a cool read. Bryson not caring about which head model, just the specs. Total weight vs swing weight. So many unique properties.

Pretty impressive the Ping guys were able to pull that off in less than a day using off the shelf i230 heads.
