The X for me just gave me a little less height and more spin on irons.  X LS spins enough arounds the greens but, I like the xtra spin the X gives.  To me, they were just about head to head in distance.   CS was too soft for me.  People claim CS is forgiving!  So, theres that!

Be interested to get your thoughts..

It was a bit inconclusive. It wasn't my sharpest day, but hit some shots I thought I hit on the screws that were a bit shorter than I expected. Short game wise it was OK.

But I switched back to the CS X and it was marginally better.

I need to test it out again.  I have league next Saturday, so probably will go back to the Triad or Q-Star Tour out of familiarity.

In my LM testing and on course testing, I agree with this breakdown. I don’t think there’s more than 3 yards difference through the bag. In the 5i to 8i the LS was lower spin but peak height was a bit higher than X. Both balls stopped exceptionally well. However for my game spin is king. Green side, X wins. It bites better and more predictably on pitches and chips. I could easily adjust to the LS if I needed to. Maybe the biggest difference is LS seems to slip  through the wind a little cleaner due to its lower spin however it’s not SO much better than X that I’d pick LS because of it.

In my own testing I am seeing more consistency and predictability shot to shot when I used a spinner ball.

I tried both and chose the X.  I was still in the ideal spin rate of the driver for my swing speed (2100 @105mph), so i liked having the extra control with the spin profile on the irons and around the green.

CSX was my ball of choice for the last 12 months, and i just ordered 12 dozen for the next 12 months on the buy three get one.

I also really use the triple track, so that was a factor vs other tour balls

Yep, when I saw this video it confirmed what I saw on the course.  CSX is a great low-ish spinning ball off the tee.  LONG too.  High spin with irons ✔️ High spin round the greens ✔️ Low spin off the driver. ✔️

I've played both and the LS spins less across the board for me compared to the standard X.  Very underrated as well.  Currently rotating between the Vice Pro Plus and left dash atm.  The higher launch of both suits me better during this time of the year since we've been getting a lot more rain than usual.

I live in a windy area so I’ll grab the LS for windy days. It seems to cut through it better and has less side spin. The regular chrome soft is very soft with a lower trajectory for me. I tried it recently but won’t be using it again. Feels good, doesn’t perform as well. I don’t like the feel of the CSX. On non-windy days I use a completely different brand though.

When the '22 versions of X and XLS were released, the differences between the two balls became much more subtle. The '21 XLS was much more of a Left Dash competitor, as was that vintage of TP5X.

In the '22 versions of the ball, the most noticeable difference between them will likely (YMMV, of course) be in the middle third of the bag.

As far as the red box CS, the reasons I can think of to play it would be:

1. The X and LS feel too firm off wedges and putter.
2. You have extreme levels of speed and spin (a la Drew Cooper) that can't be tempered any other way.

Agreed! MGS has the LS at 94 compression and the X at 95 they feel indistinguishable when testing them indoors. As you said the spin and launch difference are most apparent in my 5i to 8i.

I actually prefer the '21 CSX LS from a spin stand point as it was truly low spin.  I know many complained about the lack of green side and iron spin therefore I assume Callaway tweaked it for '22 which was a bummer for me hence the switch to the left dash.

Totally. That 21 X LS was FIRM!  Chrome Hard LS.  Very similar to -dash in that dept.   It was really long off the tee, but around the greens I just couldn't get used to the very firm feel which keeps me away from -dash as well.  Great balls tho imo

I'm kinda between both of these balls as well, like others have said the ball flight and distance with the LS is just so nice,  it's also a monster in the wind. Where I did find the struggle with it was the short irons and wedges unless you can put a good amount of spin on the ball. When I was on firm greens I did struggle a touch with this ball but medium to soft was just fine getting it to stop. Off the putter the LS the older versions were a bit firmer but I don't mind that, newer ones are a touch softer.

The X for me flies a touch higher, still a nice looking flight but not as piercing as the LS but still flew far. The shine for this came in the short irons, approach game and wedges for me. A lot more spin and stopping power in my eyes which I need to need/like lately. The putter feel I think is a touch firmer than the Bridgestone Tour B X which feels probably the best to me which is a medium-firm feel.

The most recent model they have become a bit closer in terms of specs so anyone on the fence or has a favorite need to try both out.

I switched to the LS a few months ago. I find it to be looong off the tee (I was playing B-Stone BXS and RXS). It also stops better on our firm greens than either of the BS balls (not sure why). I don't find it deficient in greenside spin at all.

FWIW, when trying out a new ball, I go out to our short game area with couple of the new balls along with a mix of premium balls like Pro Vs (both flavors), BS, BXS, TP5 and others to see how it stops. Overall, I don't find much difference in greenside spin among any of these balls. Maybe if I was a +3 instead of a 3 index, I might be able to find a difference, but any differences in ball spin is rendered moot by the variability of my technique.

A very underrated ball IMO.

i've moved to the LS after being in a prov1x for a long time. loved the left dash prov as well -- but the LS for me is doing very well. i don't have to worry bout spin and haven't worried about generating enough - i also don't like incredibly spinny balls...

How's it spinning on wedges for you, especially partials? As you know, good ol Flanders, most greens slope back to front, some rather severely. My nighmare right now is like an 80-100 yard shot down wind and front flag. Hate to think seeing it land pin high then roll another 10-15ft leaving me some insane slider. I don't hit the full 60* unless the ball was really sitting down in some rough. Clean lie is almost always a 54* partial.

Wow, I just put the B-XS (my regular ball) against the Chromesoft X (not even LS), and I saw over 900 RPM less spin on the Chromesoft compared to the Bridgestone on a 30 yard carry wedge shot. The gap just grew from there as the shot got longer. I didn't test any shots shorter than that, so I don't know whether there'd be any difference going cloer to the pin or not. But I have no reason to believe it would for me.

Interesting how differently we can strike a golfball!

  • 3 months later...

Switched to a slightly softer iron shaft this year to smooth out my game a bit, but as a high-spin player I was seeing shots spin back too much with pro v1 or XV.

I'd tried the LS with my previous setup and it was too much of a spin killer, but with the new sticks it seems just about perfect.  Plenty of feel and spin around the greens as well.  Very impressed, we'll see if the results last week hold up over the next few weeks.

I don’t know if it is my high trajectory or swing but I get plenty of green side spin on approach shots from the X LS. My wedge and short irons shots back up. Zero complaints in that department. Feel of the putter is fantastic.

I’ve been singing the praises of the LS since I got a rec from Ballnamic. It actually wasn’t my top choice but in the top 3 with the CSX and BX. In the results it does a few things better and a few things worse. I tried them all and the wind performance and distance off the driver for my swing won me over. The BX felt plasticky and the CSX spun a bit more for me with the woods and I didn’t like that.

The BX does have a unique feel.  It's like a slightly clicky firm ball with a plastic squish to it.  But, I shot my lowest round ever with it.  By 4 shots!  That being said, I still play CSX and LS(windy) most days.
