Yeah, don't beat yourself up over it.  I did it once as well but not on here. Thankfully I was able to get my money back and hope you do too.

Thanks man👍🏼🍻 I’m just a good ole boy who’s used to people doing what they say they will.  I learn all my lessons the hard way lol.   It was just carelessness on my part.

Thinking out loud here. WRX members in good standing need a minimumm of 75 posts to be able to sell in the B/S/T. Why then can newbs with no posts or members with under 75 posts sell to membets who post a WTB? Seems like a giant loophole. Seems that one should need 75 posts to even reply to a WTB ad. Would make people spend time here and become somewhat known to members.

Wouldn't stop somebody bent on pulling a scam but could possibly slow it down a bit. Paid $5 ads are another loophole as well. Again just thinking out loud.

Good question.   Kinda surprised that a Mod hasn’t reached out to say they tried contacting him to do the right thing 🤷🏼‍♂️

In mods defense, it's been 1 business day and he claimed he's going to refund.

I think on some other non-golf forums, you have to have a certain number of posts, etc to be able to direct message people.  That would be one potential option but wouldn't necessarily stop anything, just slow it down the potential spam responses to WTB.

I suppose the reason why not to do that is new members joining and wanting to buy something on BST, you need to be able to DM.  Or maybe you just want to DM something about a post to get specific feedback.  But you could put a lower bar than posting a BST, like 15-20 posts or something like that spread out over some minimum number of days.  Not sure how much of a deterrent it would be though.

But I guess in the end the best defense against it is just being skeptical in interactions with new users, F&F requests, or long-dormant account, as mentioned in the warnings.

I have also been paid via F&F before, but never because I requested it.  Having positive feedback and a history, sometimes people will just do it.  If I really want to compensate someone for the paypal fees because they were really great or accommodating, I will usually just pay a few dollars more but still pay with goods/services mode.

There are plenty of trustworthy people on here, and it sucks to have the vultures.  I have sent a shaft to another member to try out once before buying.  They paid shipping and we had a pre-negotiated price if they liked it.  Critically, it was with someone that was active on the forum and had a load of positive feedback.  And it was a shaft that was <$100, so limited risk.  But there were a lot of boxes to check to be comfortable with it.

^This.

It is a loophole that new and old members have been abusing.  Just don't call anyone out, because it may "ruin their livelihood" (I have the DM's preserved where I am now a member that others would NOT sell under the table too - darn).  If anyone is relying on selling on this site for income, then their priorities are mixed up.  I have been apparently blackballed for calling out this behavior.

At this point there are a lot of bulk selling and scams going on in the WTB.  Someone might tell a friend about the great deal that they received on WTB for new clubs, then the other person connects with a scammer where there is no deal at all.  People get "BST Banned", though nothing stops them from answering WTB ads to continue the behavior.

Not badgering the OP here.  The "deals" are attractive, and it attracts scammers as well.

As the Mods say, we need to report scammers and bulk sellers to protect the field.

Hopefully my comment doesn't get reported and deleted...

You're supposed to have 10 post to be able to send more than one DM a day-

It seems the way around it is to DM your phone number and do the rest by text which looks like the case here.

Just block anyone that doesn't meet a certain requirement from even being able to access certain parts of the forum.

LOL

In some posters' estimation you jumped the gun on this complaint in the first place.

27 posts from you in about 36 hours. Thankfully you've connected with the seller and now, the ONLY thing others want to know is whether or not you've gotten refunded yet.

So,obviously monitoring your thread, you post this "Ahhh, so that's why" post yet do NOT give any update on the refund.

@Bad9 quoted you so you likely got a notification yet did not come back to tell us.

Just as an fyi, these are the sorts of things that make others suspect your version/motives/whatever,,,,,,,,,,,,,

He ghosted.  No refund. No replies.  He’s obviously a POS.  PayPal advised to have my CC issue a chargeback.  So I did that this morning.  PP said that will initiate a case where they can then work with my CC issuer on the details.    He should be banned from this site IMO.

this whole thing got confusing as I read, The guy is probably jacking him around cause he went crazt on a Monday when he bought something on a Saturday, ever buy anything on Ebay or other auction sites, it takes them a few days to ship, this is not their business give the man a chance or buuy from somebody who has a history on the site.

this is why I do not or will not buy or sell anything on a Site like this

Page 3.  20hrs ago I posted no refund.  Not sure how often I’m supposed to say it.  The seller only agreed to a refund 24hrs ago.

LMAO

At 12:06PM yesterday you posted pics of the texts where the seller agreed to a refund.

Almost 24 hours later you reply to a post about why he suggested texts to you instead of updating the status of refunding.

So, essentially you prematurely (in some posters' opinions) jumped all over this transaction possibly being a fraudulent one, but now, after the seller agreed to a refund, and many posters awaiting the outcome, you wanted(?) to give him more time to refund before you posted "Ghosted" ?

That's pretty funny. :classic_laugh:

Thanks for the update.

Finally, I think it 98% certain it's a scam. Barring some sort of really unusual circumstances, after almost 24 hours, any honest seller would've gotten that refund done, especially having seen this thread.

I expect he will be banned once the mods review and verify.

With some luck, this'll be the most a lesson like this will ever cost you.

And maybe that chargeback will actually happen,,,,,,,,,, 👍

every PayPal transaction comes with "FREE" insurance and gifting is saving 3% to give that up.

And that 3% should be baked into the price. Anyone who asks me to send F&F I assume they are trying to scam and I don't buy.
