Wrong...it goes even farther back with Mickelson and Blacked out TM Woods.

Here's him at the Masters...in 2001.

Cool. So it goes back even further.

Not sure where the argumentative “wrong” is coming from here.  I’m not sure anything in this was about being wrong or right. I simply mentioned how far I could recall it went back. Not sure how that makes me wrong….

That's an "L" on his lob wedge, not a 7.

You are missing something. Phil isn't trolling. The PING Eye 2 XG lob wedge was released in 2013 and has USGA/R&A compliant grooves. Completely legal. Here is a bit about the club. The XG moniker is important.

Same with the 300 Mini as well, he's been blacking out any Taylormade clubs that have been in that spot

At least it's a more aesthetically pleasing blackout job than he had on the SLDR driver and the Rocketballz 3-wood he was bagging, both of which looked like it had been done with a spray can and duct tape.

He's been a fan of the Eye 2 wedge since his college days in the late 80s.

The short game wizard is back to the EYE2 LW.

Love it!

An almost 40 year old design that is still one of the best at producing magic around the greens.

I loved the PM/Eye2 style of wedges around the greens inside of 50ish yards, but boy I HATED them as soon as the yardage hit 51 yards, lol.

Another Ping Anser hybrid sighting, this thing might go down as the GOAT hybrid.

I know Kuch, and I'm pretty sure there is the old eBay special in Dahman's bag with the stock shaft.  I feel like I've seen several of them over the years sneak their way into pro's bags.  I have a 17/20/23 heads in my garage that I always consider going and shafting up when I see them in a pro's bag.  Only thing is I remember the 17 being crazy hot.

Those '13 X Forged irons are so good!

Was going to say the same thing. For quite a few years after several replacements came out a bunch of Callaway staffers still played these. Now 11 years later a set is still in play, that’s staying power.

I wonder if Phil never wanted out of these even with other Callaway irons?

Probably not so much that as it is that Phil's never afraid to chop and change.

I've really missed the Phil WITB's.  Interesting that he plays the Eye 2 XG even over the wedge with his own namesake, designed after the Eye 2 LW.

He used an original Eye 2 wedge in 2010 after the groove rule change basically to sick it to the USGA and R&A over their asinine ruling about grooves (The Eye 2 was deemed conforming forever in the lawsuit Mr. Solheim filed against both bodies.  I believe terms of the the suit regarding the legality of the original Eye 2 have changed).

So, Phil has clearly been spending his liv money on ebay.

Time to go list some stuff...

I think he just keeps all his old crap in a garage then gets bored and pulls it out sometimes

The 17 degree anser with a kuro kage shaft was in his bag for the second half of 2013. Had it when he won at Muirfield. It replaced a 980f 4 wood he started using again in late 2012 from the early 2000s. It's made a few random reappearances over the years.

I can confirm from watching feature group coverage this week the Apex UW is notably stronger than the Answer hybrid off yardage and ballspeed so it's probably 14-15 degrees.

Would you know what else Taylormade clubs he played previously? Thanks

A V Steel and R7TP back in the early/mid 2000s. There's a photo of him earlier in the thread playing a lead tape-concealed TM 300 Series driver back in his Yonex days too. He also played an old Flex Twist Graphite-shafted Tour Spoon from the early 90s that lasted a good decade or so too, right through most of his time with Yonex.

That is awesome. I play R7 TS 13* in one bag and Rbz Tour in another. Although Rbz is Stage2 sadly.

So that is 300, sldr for drivers. Vsteel, R7 and rbz for 2-3woods and original one, 300 and brnr for minis.
