PXG M16 Putter Shaft

Recommended Posts

I've been testing out a PXG putter (Dagger+) which has a steel shaft.  I'm interested in the M16 shaft, but won't be able to test it with the Dagger+.

For those that have used the M16 shaft, is it noticeably lighter than the stock steel shaft?  Does the construction of the M16 cause the overall balance to be different than a steel shaft (i.e. is does the graphite upper cause the putter to feel more "head heavy)?

I know on Odyssey Stroke Lab Shaft, they had counterbalanced weights installed in the butt end of the shaft.  I think I read somewhere that the M16 doesn't have a counterbalanced weight installed, but I'm wondering if there is a noticeable weight/balance difference compared to a steel shaft?

For those that have used the M16, any other input, good or bad?

Thanks.

I have the M16 shaft in my PXG Battle Ready Gunboat putter. To be totally honest with you I am not a big believer in these ( BGT, LA Golf, Accra ) "custom" putter shafts. The only reason I got it was because it wasn't an expensive add on, only $90 I think. So just in case it does make you a better putter I have it, HAH.

Anyway back to you're question. To me it wasn't noticeably lighter nor did the putter feel "off-balance" with it. We did play with a counter-weight in the grip as well and I ended up going with it as the putter just felt better with it. Didn't feel bad without it but I do prefer a heavier putter. Also there was no sound difference when putting between using the M16 shaft and a regular steel shaft.

I got the Dagger+ in center shaft and added weight to make the head 380 grams. I opted for the stiffer M16 shaft because of the heavier head.

Is it better than the chrome shaft would have been? It’s difficult to know, but I don’t notice any negatives.

Thanks (and likewise to the other posters).

I also will go with the center shafted Dagger+.  What grip did you go with? I’m debating between the Lamkin Sink Fit Piston and Skinny - they are very different in size/weight, but I like both. I worry that getting the Pistol that the putter head will fell too light.

Buddy got one with his updated bat attack but the rep sent the M16 shaft instead of the all black or silver standard. He said it wasn’t awful just made the sound much “tingier .” He is a really good putter and “to him” he didn’t notice any difference to the results/impacts of the putter.

I am also in the camp where it’s hard for me to imagine a putter shaft making that big of a difference but I’m slowly wading into those waters with one of my backup putters.

Watched a Mr. Short Game where he did a quick full bag review along with the M16 shaft in a putter.

It sounds freaking awful on camera, I cannot imagine in person.

If you do watch the rest he holds back about the sound and feel until the end. Tries to give positive points but that sound would stop Beethoven from liking it.

Interesting. I have the ust all-in and it made my pxg Hercules a bit more muted. May be about to order a one and done with the m16...

I once visited an old mine in germany. Carved like a tunnel deep into a mountain over hundreds of years. Basically the type you see the dwarfs in snowwhite working in.

The tour guide showed us some of the tools that were used back in the 16th-17th century.

The sound of the old chisel against the cave wall was exactly the same as this putter.

Unsurprisingly, the cave workers back in the day developed hearing issues.

Any more reviews of the M16 shaft? Do they make that ping sound?

I have putted it at pxg. It's very stable. Very firm. It works as well as any of the graphite or multi material shafts out there and it will help if you like the feel.

I plan to do 1 test with it soon...ballspeed. If it doesn't reduce ballspeed compared to steel then I'll buy one because it's one of the few that can go over hosel.

Have to agree. The sound is horrible. The only putter that shaft should go in is an Odyssey DFX. My takeaway is that torque is the most important part of an "upgrade" putter shaft. Lower is better. At the same time, overly stiff putter shafts will start to lose feel or cause some undesirable sounds. PXG's big selling point for the M16 shaft is the high CPM rating. BGT's selling point is 1.0* torque. I think low torque without being super stiff is the sweet spot for a putter shaft, provided the flex suits your putting tempo. Makes me want to try the Fuji MC Smooth putter shaft...

I agree with this. Definitely torque related and then stiffness will be based on individual preference.

Kbs seems to be butt stiff. M16 is everywhere stiff. Ust all-in is stiff everywhere. Fuji makes 3 models with differing stiffness.

I wonder where these outter shafts go from here. They definitely work, some better than others.

Just received my new Blackjack putter.  I rolled about 200 putts from 10, 15, 20 ft using my Exputt. I felt like both shafts are very stable. All-in has a heavier feel than the M16. I didn’t notice any difference in the feel of the shafts when putting. I like them both. I really like the feel of the ball off the face of the Battle Ready II. You can feel the ball spring off the face compared to the original. I feel like I have to give it more with the original Blackjack. It could be because of the countercore. I was gonna counterweight the new one, but decided I’ll keep it stock for now. I’ll use this one for slower greens and the original for faster greens. I’ll probably take the countercore out and see how the roll against each other. No ping sound with the M16 shaft. It’s more of a softer thud sound than the other one. All around I like the improvements they made on the BRII Blackjack. The slightly bigger design is actually nice and I like the silver color as well. At least for now. I haven’t seen it in the sun yet. After a few rounds with it I might mess with the weights on the bottom of the putter to dial it in more. Great job again PXG!

Very initial impression...I like this shaft a lot. It's very stable, very firm feeling in the hands but it has a very smooth feel during the stroke.

Contrasted to the ust all-in, dame feeling of firmness but m16 is smoother.

Sort of like swinging a kbs $taper vs a px.

Will get on a green for a bit in the morning before my work day starts.

Got out for about an hour this morning. Pxg m16 in a spider gt max.

Not much to say for short putts considering how stable this putter is before the shaft.

HOWEVER....this shaft is phenomenal from distance. I think the biggest difference this shaft will make (and likely all graphite putter shafts) is 3 putt avoidance with the mote frequent longer putt dropping. Putts from 25+ feet were always withing kick-in range and I made several 40+ footers. I really like this shaft on longer putts.

How does one purchase just the shaft? Tried searching the pxg site but must suck at searching.

You have to call and order it.

Some of the reps don't seem to know that the shaft can be ordered by itself. Either that or you have to have previously purchased a pxg putter from pxg to order a shaft.

But press the rep to order you a shaft. It can be done. It's an individually orderable item in their system.

Managed to get my hands on this shaft this week. Installed it just as easy as any other shaft out there.

The shaft itself is very nice. Sleek profile when compared to the BGT Stability line I was used to.  Additionally, the shaft is very stiff, slightly more muted spjnd/feel.

Overall its 100% what I expected and was looking for . For $100USD, imo there isn't a more effective shaft upgrade out there.

I have the M16 shaft in my PXG Mustang putter and absolutely love it. I have been finding the counterweights typically will not fit with the narrower I.D. Tour Lock have a slim line of counterweights but they too will not fit. Can I ask what type of counterweights people have installed in the M16, I would like a 60 or 80 gram.
