Finally Aquired my Dream Irons!! 2013 X Forged Raw!

I couldn’t afford them when they were new 11 years ago. And in the years after there were new releases that stole my attention. 
 

Not sure if it’s a good deal or not. But that’s not what it’s about since they’re exactly what I wanted. They even have a little extra flair! 
 

Behold my new to me buttery feeling dream set!

 

 

Had a minute to swing the 7i a few times. love the numbers!

Had the Cobras. Well loved 2009ish release. Would buy again....the other set got that Proto Look👌

Congrats on the new sticks.  Those are special and maybe the most loved irons Callaway has ever put out!

Nice find!!!  Love the finish, and ferrules. 

 

I remember finding a 4-pw chrome set of the 13's at a box store fall demo sale. They had proto by you 100 shafts in them, they were 1 inch over steel length. They were mint and were 1/2 price, SOLD. Seems the local Callaway rep had ordered them for himself but only played them a few times. I hit those farther than any iron iv'e ever had, thinking the extra length helped.  I still kick myself for selling those. I do have a few sets of those shafts, time to duplicate that set to see if I can revive the 13 magic.

Those are beautiful...always wanted to try a raw version. This is my 3rd set of 2013's...in smoke. Maybe 4th set I'll go raw

Those X forged were so good. I had a set with C-Tapers that were just laser beams all day.

A WRXer doesn’t randomly include LM numbers if they hit their 7i 165, even if the numbers are ideal 😉

Ha, my bad, I didn't get notified of anyone replying to the thread lol.  

 

They are 2013 X Forged.  They were a used set at our local shop.  They were already raw.  One of the employees picked them up and torched them before letting them cool in motor oil I guess.  So, they're a nice dark finish.  Not sure how that dark look will hold up over time.  

 

I traded a putter for them.  The LM numbers are the 7i.  I hit the Apex CB a couple weeks ago and was getting similar speed from it.  But, the spin was significantly less.  Getting almost 6400rpm with a push draw is pretty great for me.  I feel like some modern irons just don't spin as much as I would like.  

 

I play a draw and struggle with starting at or just left of the target and missing left.  I typically play 1-2* upright.  These are 2* flat and with that same draw swing seems to get the ball starting out to the right a bit more and seeing it draw back.  Based on my height and divots, the flat lie angle doesn't really make a lot of sense.  But, if I can play that same shot out on the course, I would be thrilled.  I have all winter to dial these in on the simulator. 

I do need to find a PW though.  See if I can find a Vokey or some other raw 46* specialty wedge.  See if I can give it the same torch/oil treatment to get it to match.

Yeah finish has held up amazingly well. They were done by the iron factory pre pandemic...I don't pound a lot of balls on sandy ranges...wipe em down after every shot etc. I play a lot...3-4 times a week for 6-7 months but haven't worn finish off faces yet. It's essentially same coating/look as the 2019 apex pro smokes...sort of a black chrome look. The apex black from 2016 wears off much faster based on a friends model

7 iron and PW...pretty good for a few hundred rounds...Im not a digger...more of a picker in terms of ball striking and I'm up in Pacific NW where its normally fairly soft even in summer comparatively to other ares

Iron covers for the first 9 years of their lives 😂. Judge me all you want. Decided to finally take them off this year since about half of them have fallen off and been lost.

I pulled the PW about 4 years ago and have been playing a vokey 46 since then. Never looked back and the vokey gives me way more control.

Was puzzled at that myself. Good grief, my 150 club is an 8i. If this guy hits a 7i 200, his 3i or 4i would likely blow past my average drive.

 

Sometimes on WRX I feel old, and infirm ... 🤔
