He isn't going to Liv, thats crazy talk. I think one the biggest threats for TGL doing well over 10 years is pro golfers aren't looking to show up another 5 or 10 times a year. Thats how I read it.

IMO it's as simple as he doesn't live in Florida.  That and mama said "I want you home, not flying to Florida every week to hang with the boys."

There will be six teams, only two competing each week.  Sounds like they will play all the other teams before any playoffs.  So a two-hour hit and giggle every third week.  Then maybe some playoff matches.

For some reason people keep equating this to 16 straight weeks of playing.

It's still awkward though to fly to Florida for just one night, even once a month, when most of the tournaments are going to be on the west coast until March. It's a long way to go for a sideshow, compared to half the players involved it's a 10 or 15 minute drive.

Still though, he doesn’t need the money. Also that’s a couple of day commitment every three weeks. He’s a busy tour player with a wife and two young kids who lives far away. Time is the only thing he has and he probably doesn’t wanna waste it doing that. Can’t say that I blame him.

Just one more small reason to add to my dislike of Rahm.

I may be in the minority, but I can't get excited about TGL at all.

im not rooting against it and ill tune in week one, but I like the pace of "real golf" playing or watching. I can't see this being super engaging, but who knows.

I’m pretty much in the same boat. Going to several PGA events and watching the guys hit on the range is cool. Not like I wanna do it for over 15min though. I’d say watching them hit into a screen playing sim golf would be about the same, if not slightly less exciting.

That and some may think it's stupid, but John would never say that.

I would imagine he just wants more time off, as his comments seemed to indicate.

Do we know how much these guys are making in TGL?

I'm sure there's a time to cash ratio here that will be a factor for some guys

I think the key is the players and how they treat it. If they take it deadly seriously and start saying it's more than it is, that will turn people off. Morikawa's comments yesterday for example were so cringey. Some golfers aren't the smoothest guys in the world, so there is a chance the whole thing could come across as cringey and fake, whereas if they open up and shoot the breeze then it could be a fun watch.

Odds are he's headed to LIV. It's kinda obvious. Turning down $300,000,000 something while still playing in majors is just too much. Within 2 years they're most likely to sort something out for the Ryder cup too.

I believe he has way too much integrity to do that.

This could be as simply as Jon Rahm's last contract signing with Callaway, included him being an equity partner in Top Golf Callaway.  You would think a sim-based company would be a good natural partner for a sim-based competition, bit iirc, Tiger has some links with another golf sim company.

Edit: Looks like TGL is using a sim setup from Full Swing.

"We can’t wait to show the world how Full Swing is going to help bring TGL to life. Across our simulator software experience, KIT launch monitor, and Virtual Green that can literally shift the type of putts the players will face, our entire product line will be represented with TGL.”
