New Taylor-Made Qi10 LS & Max driver & Qi10 Tour 3 wood - 2023 Grant Thornton Invitational

Hoping to see the Max at address.  Still hitting the SIM Max because for some reason never got along with Sim 2, Stealth or Stealth 2.

Oddly enough, they had it in hand and we can see it’s definitely a “new” shape in the lineup. But no address pics!

gets the imagination going though. I just hope for a neutral face angle. A neutral (or flat) lie angle. So, we may end up with a forgiving bomber that isn’t inherently draw biased beyond the weight distribution.

that would be a club that really isn’t offered by other OEMs. At least in my experience. The tsr2, g430 max, assuming callaway and cobra will stick to what they’ve done in the past, they all seem to be closed faced, upright lie angle.

i mean with the Quest for Inertia being the name of this line, I’d imagine the Max model may be the highlight of it.

The HD version seemed to have an extremely similar if not identical footprint to the standard model.  Not the Max definitely has a more stretched back, shallow shape to it.

... I always wait to see them in person as photo's can be misleading. I am very interested in the Qi10 Max version having played the Sim2 Max and Stealth2 HD but if the Qi10Max is stretched front to back, that is a no go for me. I currently own both and while the Stealth2 and Stealth2 HD heads don't have a night and day difference and I agree they are similar, the HD is a little more rounded than the more pear shaped standard head.

They can be misleading for sure. I could be wrong. But the pics we’ve seen here are a departure from what we’ve seen with the HD models in the past. Even the sole has a different shape to it with a noticeable “scoop” in it.

I didn’t spend much time with any of the HD models. So I can’t speak to how different the numbers were. But as far as footprint and shape, there didn’t seem to be a lot of separation.

I know some golfers who really gravitate towards that confidence inspiring stretched out footprint. To the point where the stealth line just didn’t work for them. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a little more separation between the 3 models. And maybe that means they pushed the standard qi10 closer to the past HD models to accomplish that.

at the end of the day, it’s all just speculation as I stare at the snow on the ground outside my window haha.

... I would hate to be in R&D of any OEM because we are all so different. I hear ya on the visual differences and I much prefer all heads look the same, or more specifically I prefer my Max/HD head to look traditional. As you said more than few that need the draw bias or added forgiveness prefer a larger look at address for confidence. At age 70 I need a little more spin to maximize my drives. The Stealth2 HD surprisingly has very little draw bias for me. I play a soft draw naturally and was a little worried the HD may accentuate that but it did not I the fitting or on the course, just a little higher trajectory, a little more spin and a little more forgiving than the Stealth2. I would add with the Ventus Red Velo or the AD-IZ combined with the Stealth2 HD are the best combo I have played, so if the Qi10 Max is elongated I will just stick with my HD. Of course there is a very good chance the Qi10 Max doesn't perform any better than the Stealth2 HD anyway, but as always I demo the new drivers every year just in case because ya don't know unless ya try.

... Snow? I think that may be frozen rain right? But I can't sure as we have had none of the former and very little of the latter since I moved to Phoenix 4 years ago. 😉

That was one thing I kinda disliked about TM drivers, I know many like it but for me much better now. But good think with the custom program for years could have gotten it with and without alignment.

Isn't that what Taylormade wants here?  Pronounce it "Chee-Ten"?  Like "Using this driver feels like chee-ten (cheating)"?

That’s a good point. But it could also be “Qi-ten”   Like they’re just going to give up !  🤣.

It’s a great looking head in my opinion. Best since the sldr jdm head.

Kinda hoping for a bit of a sldr 2.5.  Something I can get a 10.5 turn down just a little and launch higher. I am a bit of a low baller so if I can cheat the system with loft and keep the spin down. I am extremely happy.

The look from address is outstanding.

Everything else is ... odd. Strange name, gross color scheme, busy sole.

But they'll probably perform exactly like everything that was released last year.

... If TaylorMade came out with a new driver called "No Name" some here would still complain about it. 🤷‍♂️ As been discussed many, many times I don't care what any OEM call a golf club and I don't care how the sole looks. So far, I have never hit a drive off the sole or the name, just the face. While I envy those that only care about performance and can play a loud or odd shaped head, I do care how my club looks at address. The rest is irrelevant.

So true Chi.  I mean how names of the past were mocked when they came out and now nobody gives a 2nd thought about them.

... Quick update. After only one round it was clear the standard Qi10 performs much better than the Max for me. I'll need quite a few more rounds with a few different shafts before deciding if it is better than the Stealth2 HD but at least it is in the running.
