Sun Day Red

Recommended Posts

Sun Day Red doesn't sound any more like an alibaba special than Redvanly does.

It does sound like something a freshly graduated marketing major would pitch. "Yes Mr. Woods, well, by breaking Sunday up in to two words Sun Day, we're encouraging the consumer think of beautiful sunny days on the golf course, instead of things like mass and football."

Who knows, maybe it'll be good quality fabrics and construction. I think the unique logo and S D R lettering stem from this being launched as a "Lifestyle" brand and not a golf brand. Feels like some weird intersection between dudebro/dadbro wear and some of the more upscale golfwear options.

I agree with what appears to be the vast majority: I'm not digging it. Tiger still moves the needle when it comes to ratings. Time will tell if this pays off for TM.

I'm still dumbfounded Nike never emulated the Jordan brand when it came to Tiger. Seemed like a no-brainer, but what do I know.

Have they released who is producing the clothes/shoes/accessories?  We know its a partnership with TM, but they can't scale that quickly to build a new production shop.  Is this made in the same plant as Loro Piano, Peter Millar, Nike, etc, with an SDR logo attached?  To me, this would be an indication of the "premium quality".

This is like a Supreme drop, put a logo on some basic stuff and people will go wild. It's not looking that quality to be honest, TM could have found a better manufacturer to make all this.

Agreed.  The "quality" seems to be no different than the Greg Norman Shark apparel I can find at Sams Club.

It reminds me of Slazenger, and that's not a good thing IMO.

The Slazenger logo is sick and propelled 10-year-old me to be a devoted Slazenger ball loyalist whenever I found one in the trees. But...yeah

Yeah and I'm sure the price point won't match the quality. I will say the hoodies I kinda dig but if they're like $200 each I'll pass and I'm sure they probably won't be a generous cut either.

TBH, I'm not sure he has the star power anymore to create a successful clothing brand from scratch and the logo/branding certainly isn't off to a great start.  He might be able to do it, he might not, but the odds are stacked against him.

That said, I hope it does motivate him.  I hope he does win again.  It is good for the sport when he is contending, and it would be nice for him to put some of these loud mouth youngsters in their place lol.

I think he has the star power, the big issue is he just doesn't play enough for this new line to be regularly in people's faces. They are going to have to sign an endorsement deal with another player who plays regularly and can have SDR showing almost every week rather than only 5ish times a year with Tiger. I'd guess someone who is currently in the Nike camp would be the prime suspects since they will all likely be looking for new clothing deals once their Nike deals expire. Maybe a guy like Scottie or Rory eventually moves over since they already have the relationship with Taylormade for clubs

I've heard similar rumors about current TM/Nike athletes making the switch to TM apparel after expiring deals. Hearing Rory to Greyson is imminent.

Rory to Greyson makes sense since I want to say his TGL team is sponsored by Greyson already

I'm also curious about that and I haven't found an answer. I did read the GolfWRX Q&A that is on the homepage and it provides who the product leads are. Brad Blankinship is the President - he comes from Quicksilver and RVCA. Charley Hudak is running footwear.

Quicksilver and RVCA are generally crap and Charley has designed some of the most god awful footwear for Puma, And1, whatever.

Admittedly they may be able to move this into the premium space in terms of quality and design with the right resources, etc. But I'm not confident this turns into anything with better construction, design, or materials than your run of the mill golf apparel.

Using three words for the name is idiotic and I predict it will not last long in that form.

The name itself is for better or worse, unnecessary. The name of the line should be “Tiger”, which is all that is needed.

As a previous graphic design for 25 years, I am very surprised by the logo design. The tiger is just off a bit. The stripes are coming off as a skeleton. And really, Helvetica Bold for the font with the rounded off skeleton-tiger? Even worse is when they use it with just the 3 letters S    D    R cricling around the logo. Come on man.

Mr. Wolfe

I was going to say the logo but especially the font looks like something I would make freshman year of high school dicking around with InDesign for the first time.

The more I see the more I think it looks like something I would make in MS Paint in 7th grade.

I want know to if the "Frankie The Tiger" headcover logo is owned by Nike. I think that would have been an unreal logo for a new brand. It would have been less serious, but those tiger fanatics would love it because the symbolism of the headcover.

There will be tons of people wearing it. I have zero doubt. They just have to price it right.

'We're not for people who want to live a certain kind of lifestyle. We're for people who want to live a certain kind of life. We are Sun Day Red.'

According to the New York Times, prices for Sun Day Red clothing will range from $115 to $350. Polos will cost $115 to $175 and cashmere sweaters will range from $250 to $350.

You just knew with that pretentious mission statement SDR wasn't made for 99% of us. SDR seems like it was made for the guys who golf and like SUPREME. The brand will be fine until dad cancels the credit card.

How do we know it’s what he wears off the course? I’ve read other comments about this but just don’t know how it’s been confirmed.

If so, maybe it would make sense but Nike would have to give him quite the buyout…

i missed that article. But those price ranges did not surprise me.. Its not that bad if you put other toptier golf clothing lines along with the current state of the game itself into perspective. So my opinion wont change... you'll see SDR everywhere. Maybe not at your local muni, but theyll sell tons regardless.

Im not overhauling my closet by any means, but ill prob do a hoodie and a polo thats about it.

Yeah same here. Similar length of time as a designer (did you ever use Yaxay??) I could have designed a 100% better logo for a fraction of what they probably paid.

I asked my 6 year old to make one on my computer, gave her the brief, and I think it looks better already.
