TBF we one, have commentary from multiple career GDs--thats graphic designers, not gangster disciples--in this thread agreeing that they don't know what could have gotten this into contention. Two, we have plenty of examples of improvements in design from crowd sourcing rather than only going to the biggest media houses; see the Deadpool film media contests, for instance. Three, we have responses from frequenters of the annual Nike threads who always wanted to know what Tiger might be wearing that at best say I'll buy because it's Tiger, but mostly saying this is a miss. 

 

Target spent millions putting stores in the frozen wilds of Canada only to have them all go under because they didn't do their due diligence. I'm sure some megacorp advisory told them it was a good idea and that was all it took. I can point you to several catastrophic disasters where an entire group of educated, credentialed people signed off on the circumstances that made it happen or stood by unable to make a decision while it did. Humans are amazing in the spectacular nature of both our achievements and our failures. 

 

You're a well-informed, well-traveled guy, so I'm sure you've come across plenty of examples of position not always being an indicator of knowledge or ability. Several someones were in the right place at the right time to make this disaster happen. That some established brand house signed off on this says nothing inherent about it being good or aesthetically pleasing.

Yeah same here. Similar length of time as a designer (did you ever use Yaxay??) I could have designed a 100% better logo for a fraction of what they probably paid.

 

I asked my 6 year old to make one on my computer, gave her the brief, and I think it looks better already.

I just don't see it happening, if the intention is for TM to compete in the already overcrowded apparel market, then the SDR name and logo is going to be a hard sell for any current player to wear and let's face it Tiger didn't sell apparel for Nike so not sure why he's suddenly going to sell gear for someone else.

 

Scottie Scheffler. He was literally already doing it. Plus he has the relationship with Taylormade for clubs already

There's a piece of me that thinks the SDR font becomes a secondary logo for those not named Tiger that would wear the gear.  THey will spin it as being synonymous with being a champion, chasing victory, discipline, yadda yadda yadda.   So maybe not Scottie, but I'm pretty sure someone walks on the course with an SDR logo without the skeleton tiger logo.   This would be similar to Nike vs TW Golf

Your thought of splitting logos is great. When meeting players are they going to tell them up front it's not the Tiger logo, just SDR?

If they do show them what their SDR logo will be, I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't calmly get up and walk out the door.

A silhouette logo is about the only thing that would be worse than what they went with. Trite, lazy, and uninspiring. Not something you want when launching a new high end brand. I suppose it'd be a lot eassier if they did use the silhouette, just mark everything 60% off and send them straight to Kohl's or TJ Max.

The walkers at my course have a pool to see which of the cart riders (it’s a good and intense rivalry) Sun Day Red first.  Also, an additional buy in for who leave the TW hats and shoes behind.

I’ll buy a couple SDR hats and maybe one of those headcovers but I’m not interested in the rest of the lineup.  I’m sure it will sell since TW is connected to it.

I love the new logo. Way better than his Nike TW logo. In case you can’t see it, it’s a Tiger, not just a bunch of lines. 
 

I could do without the S D R around it. On items without the S D R, boss. 
 

I’ll wear my retro TW13 shoes with my SDR Tiger logo polo with a Legion 13 hat FTW. 🙂

I get all my golf apparel at stores like TJ Maxx or from the clearance rack at Kohl's or as gifts, so couldn't care less who makes it.  And I look horrible in red.  But as far as this logo goes, for some reason the first thing it conjures in my mind is the film "the human centipede", and that's not great.  As for the name, perhaps they'd have had to give Gary Koch a cut, but I like "Better Than Most".  No idea what the logo would be.
