unfortunately according to a twitter source, his insert is an 80/20 mix and the custom shop options are only surlyn or aluminum.. so while you can get the shape and neck, it wont feel like his apparently.

You think TM could add the 80/20 option to the my spider options fairly easily. What finish is on Scheffler's spider?

Hopefully they will now.  I’m sure TM will do a LE release of this if SS keeps it in the bag.

Has TM ever put the 80/20 insert in a retail head? Or is it a tour only thing? Always a lot of talk about that insert.

They actually feel really nice. I think I still prefer the alu one though. Not sure on retail but I have seen tour issue spiders on the classifieds multiple times and that’s how I got my hands on a 80/20 insert. I ended up with a lab putter in the bag right for now but who knows I swap putters like underwear

Pretty sure the spider tour black  has the 80/20 pure roll insert.  It’s surlyn and aluminum

edit it looks like under the myspider program you can get the 80/20 insert.  It’s labeled as “surlyn” but in reality it’s an 80/20 pure roll.  Someone might want to call TM customer service to confirm.

I visited with TM and they said yes - the 80/20 is in between the retail surlyn and aluminum. Very tempted to try one out.

I just called TM and the rep said the model SS used has a different insert than the retail 80/20 insert🤷

I’ve been gaming a tour issued spider x with a plumbers neck since last spring and I’ve never putted better. Probably never coming out of my bag.

They should have been offering plumber's neck as standard years ago.  Tom Hoge rolls one as well.

Agree. I'm no historian, but TMS probably knows.

 

I've seen more plumber's neck putters in players' bags than any other putter hosel ever.

 

For a putter line with multiple hosels on most of their models, not having a plumber's neck version seems pretty shortsighted.

Must've been unicorn dust because Scottie was putting a hell of a lot better this past week compared to earlier this year when he was going through putters like he was going through underwear.

Finally got a high moi mallet.  Before he was toying with mallets that were closer to blades.  
 

you could legit see him missing the center of the putter and the blades wobbling at or just after impact during slo mos of his struggles.  This high moi design might help mitigate some of that.

The Pure Roll2 is Urethane/ Aluminum

I have one of the original spider putters the "Rossa Monza Spider Vicino" and I've never seen one in the wild.  It's the best putter I've ever laid my hands on and the quality far exceeds the ones they mass produce today.  I mean in terms of the pain chipping etc on the newer models.  I bet he stays with a mallet putter for years to come.
