Yes, he had a spider proto in play briefly, at the St. Jude. I think this is the third time he's put a spider variation in play.

All I know is I’m glad the flippers that are still trying to sell the milled face spiders on the classifieds and eBay for 600-900 dollars won’t get jack from anyone else anymore. Scotty flopped so hard with these putter changes it made them worthless

I love the rubber version. The cord is a slightly different shape. Wanted to like is as i really like the corded deep etch, but went back to the rubber. Using iOmic 55 now. Basically like a pingman.

Now you’re talking…the Lamkin Deep Etched cord is my only putter grip.

It's comical to see how desperate Taylormade is to find a putter that has staying power.

15 of 18 green hit in regulation and 31 putts isn’t spectacular but he’s right in the thick of it at -2 which leaves him T20.

Yep. He needs to see someone like David Orr , or similar.   Someone who will dissect  him in 3d before fitting a putter. 
 

his putting would be fine at the college or elite am level.  But in the 1 % land he’s competing against , he’s behind the times.  

 

Will this spider last 4 rounds ?

He at least needs to stick with whatever putter he is currently using and give it at least a month of testing/tournament work. Rolling it on the practice green and rolling it in the tournament are going to be completely different.

Rory had 32...  No headlines.

 

It's a tough track and that rough will be the game changer.  The greens will get tougher on the wknd.  He has had success here, if he keeps up his GIR and fairways hit he can have a strong finish.  

 

Going to need a cpl wks with the new mally to get her rollin.

Good perspective, looked up the average putts per round, not far off.

As someone who used to switch putters a lot, I tend to agree rounds 1-5 can tell you if a putter absolutely isn't working but it takes more 10 rounds+ to be sure if a putter has made a significant improvement. Especially going to such a dramatically different looking putter.

Meanwhile I would be so elated if at the end of the round saw I only needed 31 or 32 putts. That’s roughly 1.75 putts per hole.

I’m a huge fan of his. Love the upright swing and lack of modern wrist bowing etc. so not a hater is my point.      —— we shall see what it does if he gets in contention and puts some pressure on it.  Hope he makes them all.  Him or hideki ! 🤣
