Bourbon

I got an email the Van Winkles are being released here. 10yr $100cnd 12yr lot b $120cnd and Pappy 15 for $150cnd. My name is on the list for a "lottery" to buy it. Need some luck......

Well good luck that would be a pretty decent pull then. Went to one liquor store here today and all the bourbon prices were way up compared to a couple months ago, blantons was almost $100 I think, pretty sure I bought my bottle in August for like 60

i see your in alberta. have you tried the Canadian Rockies 21yr (100% corn whisky)? I want to get some. I like the Ninety Decades of Richness 20yr from Alberta.

Oh do you know what it probably was the gold, it was sold out so I just saw the price quickly but that makes more sense. No haven't tried the Canadian Rockies, might have to keep an eye out for it.

Was reading about the black maple and it sounds awesome.

Btw just diving into the bourbon more now, my wife's work has the blantons for $60, is it worth it? It would be my first "more than $35" bottle

I would probably pass at that price. It is only a very small step up from regular Buffalo Trace or Eagle Rare.

I have a bottle but I'm not certain it is worth the money. I prefer the Woodford Double Oaked for a bit less $$. Blanton's is pretty good but there are other options for less in my opinion, especially if you are new to bourbon.

BT on sale around these parts for $22...I don't think BT at that price can be beat value-wise...$60 for Blanton's is not that overpriced, it is around $56 here before taxes, but it is also nearly impossible to find...Blanton's will b single barrel vs blend for most whiskey; the really crazy deal I've seen lately is Jefferson's reserve at total wine for 39.99...that is a crazy price (it is 54-56 everywhere else)

I passed on the blantons and picked up the Costco 7 year for mixing old fashions and stuff, having one now and I wish I would have stayed with the old granddad 114 or even the old overholt for a rye. Not a fan of the Costco

Tks. Picked up a bottle of BH yesterday and remember the Woodford dbl oaked and Jefferson on the shelf, not sure if it was the reserve. Been looking for the 4 Roses as others have mentioned it.

Anyone tried EH Taylor....hearing good things but havent bought a bottle yet.

I've got a bottle. It's good but has more of that alcohol burn/taste. I think you can get better bottles for far less though.

Same thoughts here, not a very robust flavor profile, def a boozy finish. It's not the cheapest stuff either.

just finished a bottle the other night of the small batch, bottled in bond (which is whiskey jargon for 100 proof); it is delicious, but not easy to find, and the only place around me that routinely stocks it will only allow 1 bottle per customer when they even have it available; it runs about $33-$35, which is a nice price point

The liquor store had Four Roses single barrel at $39.99 and small batch at $29.99. Couldn't remember which you recommended, so I went with the cheaper one, glad I did. Very good, similar to Basil Hayden on this palate, and costs less.

Well...out of the limited bottles of Pappy that came to Ontario, Canada...I could only reserve 1 bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 10yr 107 proof for $100CND (about $70USD). Is it worth that price? 5 Years ago I picked it up for half that.

definitely worth it; if you want to turn a quick profit, you can ship it to me, and i'll sweeten the pot a little ;-)

I think I have both at home, you can't really go wrong either way.

I've tried a couple bourbons (Buffalo Trace, Knob Creek, and Maker's Mark thus far - so not a lot). Based on the OP's recommendations, I made a stop at the liquor store over the weekend. I tried to get Blanton's, but they were out of stock. So I picked up the Jefferson's Reserve instead. Looking forward to trying it.

I cut processed foods gluten and alcohol for the month of January. God I can't wait for Feb 1. Gonna need to go grab a nice new bottle of something. Maybe Eagle or Buffalo as they are my go to's. Maybe something different..

So I went to all the big liquor stores here in Springfield, MO trying to find some Weller's Antique to make some "Poor Mans Pappy" and was unsuccessful. When I asked about availability the comment I got was "good luck". I'm starting to wonder if I like WL Weller's so much and its becoming harder to find, should I just hoard it now? Don't find too many wheat whiskeys and that really seems to be what I prefer.

Anyone have any other wheat whiskeys they'd recommend??

Bill's Michigan wheat from New Holland is awesome. It might be hard for you to find though.

Weller's Antique is a "wheated" bourbon, which means corn is still the main ingredient; Maker's Mark is also a wheated bourbon that is always available, if you want to stay in that type of grain mix; if you want to find a strict wheated whiskey, Bernheim makes a 7-year wheat whiskey that typically runs mid-30s to low 40s and is usually stocked at the big box booze stores and even some of the ma and pa shops

Anyone had the Weller 7yr/Special Reserve? How about Hudson Baby?

Former is a bottom shelf offering but a solid value. Latter is pretty much the exact opposite.

I'm in a weird spot currently. Had 45 family members over our house for Christmas eve, and they wiped out my good stuff. Ended up with not-so good stuff for Christmas presents! Gotta go restock...

Anybody else try Clyde Mays Alabama whiskey? It's not a Bourbon, so a little off topic. I like it, smooth 85 proof with a green apple finish
