pretty much anything in the michter's line is good stuff; tho not legally bourbon, one of my favorties right now is michter's small batch unblended American whiskey

I was only able to nab the family reserve 12 this year, the allotments are so tight anymore and the demand thru the roof...some stores doing lotteries for only one bottle that they receive...

I got lucky and found a 20 and 10 year without much effort. I use to be all over the release and I've gotten many bottles in the past but all the chasing is too time consuming.

3 -4 years ago I walked into a small local liquor store and found 2 23 year's sitting on their shelves - those days are long. They also had over 10 bottles of Jefferson 17 year which is also gone through the roof.

Picked up a bottle of Evan Williams Single Barrel this past weekend. Been meaning to try it for quite a while now. It's a pretty good lower priced offering. Not sure I like it any better than my normal low priced go to Old Forester but it's a solid pickup.

My latest acquisitions: Orphan Barrel 15-year Forged Oak and 21-year Rhetoric; the Camacho cigars are a new release in which they age the wrapper leaf for 5 months in Bourbon barrels

The stolen pappy that wasn't tainted will be auctioned off for charity sometime this spring once the trial is over. If anybody is interested I would suggest keeping an eye on the Franklin county sheriff, in Frankfort Ky.

Not lookin' to get ripped on, but I like and drink Jim Beam's Red Stag. Don't like the bite of regular bourbons.

 

 

You should give a wheated bourbon or wheat whisky a try.

If you enjoy the flavored bourbons, I once had a blackberry flavored bourbon from Bird Dog. It was pretty tasty. We were at a Food and Wine event at Beaver Creek and they were one of the vendors. I've never purchased it but if I could find the recipe for the drink they were making I would. It was really good.

My take on an old fashioned... Instead of the sugar cube I reduce a large jar of cherry juice and whole crushed black pepper corns . Filter out the pepper corns after the liquid has reduced and use it as a simple syrup. Not super sweet and adds a nice spicy finish on the backend.

Definitely not. I found the JB Black to be unremarkable in every way.

 

The Kirkland bourbon is 7-yr, 103 proof, full of flavor, a fine sipper neat or with ice, great in cocktails and an exceptional value at $22 for a liter.

Went to a bar last night and they didn't have any Beam products. Went with Buffalo Trace. I was going to bring up this thread to see the recommendations from past comments. Then I saw their higher end selections and I clammed up from indecision and went with Buffalo Trace.

 

For a distiller without a lot of back story (I know the distillery is old and haunted and all that) and at an entry level price point I quite enjoy it. i need to expand outside of my Beam Bonded love affair that is going on right now.

 

IMO Buffalo Trace is one of the best bourbons for the $$ out there, if not the best. BT and Eagle Rare are a couple of great daily drinkers...

 

Buffalo Trace is bourbon for malt scotch drinkers. That would be why it's my favorite. :)
