I shot 73 today at Firekeeper GC and qualified for the 2017 Kansas Amateur at Kansas City Country Club! 51 golfers for only 18 spots, and the scoring was much lower than I've experienced in past qualifiers despite some good Kansas winds.

That's some great playing buddy. This is one of my favorite threads to follow. My journey towards better has followed fairly closely to yours. This thread has led me down the aim point path followed by becoming a GG fanboy and now a Decade subscriber. While my game isn't close to yours it is better than it has ever been. Thanks for the great thread. Let me know when you make it up to Nebraska and maybe we can get a round in.

I've been following this thread for a LONG time but never really posted. Glad to see GG is working out for you, looks like you've really turned a corner since going to him. I've been following him on Instagram for awhile and he's accumulating quite a stable of good young players, so his teaching must be top notch.

This has been a great thread to follow, just goes to show how hard work and finding the right teacher can really transform your game. You might have motivated me to get back on the horse and start playing tournaments again, nothing can be more humbling than tourny golf but it's pretty darn rewarding when you play well in one.

Next time I'm in CA near GG I think I'm going to try and book a lesson with him. I'd like to work with him in person before I start doing an online lesson with him I think.

If you can't get to Cali to see Gankas, his buddy Jake who teaches in Las Vegas is awesome. I was out there last week and I would highly recommend him.

Thanks for all the kind words, guys. It means a lot! It has been fun sharing my progress with you.

Nice work man; sounds like you're very comfortable with the all Cally bag! Any changes from your sig or is everything still current?

Congrats again; you should be very proud!!!

Thanks, buddy! I still need to plan a Saratoga trip! No changes to the bag, everything firmly planted from #TheWRX fittings at the ECPC. I just feel supremely confident with every club.

Your swing looks great! That bunker shot is beautiful! I was tightening up just thinking about it.

Thank you! Our club just renovated our bunkers with the Better Billy Bunkers system you see at most PGA Tour venues. It makes practicing a lot more fun than the conditions we had previously.

Even more impressive with your playing partners shooting 79 and 86. Laser focus. Congrats.

I really didn't even notice until we were at the scoring tent, and they were great guys to play with. My adrenaline was going all day; combined with the heat, I was nuking some irons. But I kept telling myself, "worry about the process (routine), not the results."

This game is so humbling! From November-March, I was playing the best golf of my life: good round at Torrey, 69-72 almost every round, high of 74. Then I played well in our team event in early May. My first individual event of the year was a few weeks ago and despite playing decent posted 79-80 and finished way down the leaderboard. That is the hardest part of the game, managing the highs and lows. I was really nervous going into the qualifier this week because I just haven't "had it" lately but just grinded it out and got the job done. I think that is when you learn the most about your game.

Met Jake in KC 2 years ago - he was helping Monte and also learning himself from the instructor side of things. Super nice young man, glad to hear he's found a place in the golf teaching world.

After a few sub-par drives lately, I had a little (private) range session last night and sent GG a video. He wanted me to get a bigger hip turn, and it seems to have helped quite a bit (full shoulder turn, hand depth, and ballflight).

Is that how you put the Free Callaway balls to use? I knew they would be good for something.

:cheesy:

Nah, these balls are hacker OB slices that trickle into my front yard. I'm just trying to return them to their rightful owners.

I still have a Callaway Chrome Soft X stash.

So last Friday I was playing in charity scramble in Nebraska and had the pleasure of playing with Tommie Frazier. He was a good guy, but he was a much better quarterback than golfer. I thought with you being a Husker fan you would appreciate that.
