Almost hit it in the woods on that first shot. It's tough when there's only 200 yards of width on the fairway.

Played Manhattan Woods yesterday. The club is located about 15 miles north of the George Washington Bridge in Rockland County. It was a crisp, sunny, Fall day with the foliage at its peak.

I'm not a member but a couple of friends are National Members.

What a great course, loved the entire set up. The club/people are very laid back and friendly - great set up for golf and hanging out. I could easily play this course every day forever.

Played Manhattan Woods yesterday. The club is located about 15 miles north of the George Washington Bridge in Rockland County. It was a crisp, sunny, Fall day with the foliage at its peak.

Just got back from Oahu.

 

1st up Koolau. While the pictures look pretty this was a huge disappointment, back nine was closed due to too much water, front 9 was a muddy mess. I ended up getting a refund from Teeoff.com for this round and probably would not go back on future trips. Bummer because the backdrop is spectacular.

 

Approach on 1

Looking back to 2 tee from 2 green

What my ball looked like after every single shot. This was a fairway to fairway hybrid

I drove around the back nine to get a look even though it was closed. The back looked like the better of the nines too, real bummer it was closed

Stayed at Turtle Bay for a night and played both the Palmer and Fazio. It was actually cheaper to play both vs just playing the Palmer.

Started off with the Fazio, Does not get the ratings that the Palmer does. It was in good condition but overall a pretty basic resort course layout. Cannot believe the rating is 73.8 from the back tees ~6700 yards. Played in 2 hours and fired 72 so great way to start the morning

 

The Palmer Course was immaculate and honestly the best fairways I have ever played on which is saying alot. The grass grows so dense that they are able to cut it very low. Greens were faster on the Palmer and a much more interesting layout compared to the Fazio. Tougher pins got me on the Palmer I was not making putts shot 76 to end the day

 

Got engaged out on those dunes in the background the night before too. :wub:

Here is the overhead of 18 I was planning on this being a 3 shot par 5

But I hit the best drive of the day 305 and left myself 227 decided I did not fly all this way to lay up

Hit a 3 wood starting at the left bunkers but too much cut on it, had the distance but not the line. Bounced it off the top rock on the right side of the green. Took my drop hit my 4th to 5 feet and made par the hard way.

Bummer to hear that about Ko'olau, was planning to play there and Kapalua during my visit in December. Is it usually that wet? The views always look amazing, but almost every review I come across mentions the wet conditions.

They said the back nine had been closed for 3 weeks and driving around it it showed, grass not mowed incredibly muddy on the tee boxes I went to to take pics. I was bummed because I was not notified of the closure prior to showing up. From what I hear from talking to people there it is very common due to its location on the windward side. I imagine it varies due to seasonal changes but I would call ahead and ask prior to play. If they say drier than normal then give it a go if it is very wet it is just not enjoyable unless you dont care about the actual golf and just want to admire the scenery. I only paid $50 on teeoff I called them to let them know the back nine was closed and they should advise future bookings of that fact. I really did not care about or ask for a refund, I did play the front and the views alone were worth $50 to me. They called the shop and confirmed and refunded me without me asking.

Lol it was a surprise and she might have been suspicious if i didn't play. I set the golf expectation very very early in the relationship. She even rode with me on my second round the day after the engagement.
