Titleist 905R is AMAZING

Today I hit balls with my old faithful and I don't know why this ever left my bag.

Titleist 905 R w/ "real" Fujikura 757 Speeder,

Sure its heavier, maybe i give up 10 yards, but man it has such a great feel, amazing flight and finds fairways.

Just play it. If the launch and spin are in the optimal zone, I'll bet you don't even give up 10 yards

I played a 905t until last summer. Definitely have a great feel when struck.

It's an iconic driver but these days it's not good for much more than shooing away hobos.

905R was so good. I hit some unbelievable drives with that thing.

I have an old 983E I use every now and then. For my swing, it is longer than my current driver if I catch it right. But the results are so bad when I miss it that it would be a bad choice to play over 5-10 rounds.

The 905R is 460cc so maybe the performance gap isn't too big, but I wonder if this was just a day where your swing was on.

New drivers are more accurate and longer, but they all feel like crap

I still play the 983e. Check out my comments in wxr’s “983e still wins”. These older Titleist drivers are the holy grail. They are at max core - so they don’t give up and distance at all. Proven by my fitting at Club Champion Golf fitters.

There is a YouTube video testing old vs new drivers, and the 905r was longer than everything.

Same here. I actually use it as a benchmark to test other drivers against. Sometimes it "wins" and ends up in the bag.

I do the exact same. I have a 7.5 w/ 757x in it Which is more of a driving range club, will take it out in the wind...and 10.5 w/ the Titleist Speeder which is my favorite driver I've ever played to this day. I stack others against it all the time. And although it was finally replaced by a G400 LST, I will always go back to it if im not swinging the best

Played a T.I. 7.5 905r with an ion ahina 60x for most of last year along with a 9.5 with a fuji z708 and played my best golf. Distance wise it was similar to all the newer stuff I have. Epic sz, 917d3, m3 440, f8+, ltd pro, the list goes on. None of these gave me significantly better numbers. The only one that gave me better numbers was a T.I. m2 2016, 2mph more ballspeed and 300rpm less spin not earth shattering. I find them very easy to control and IMO its the best looking 460 head made. Still a very playable head with the right set up.

My current gamer is a 9.5* with the stock Proforce V2, but I just had an 8.5* with an Evenflow White T1100 6.5X built to be my new gamer. These clubs are timeless and work better overall than my M1 440 and 915 D3. Plus they’re the best looking driver at address ever made in my opinion.

Just found a clean 905r with the adilla NV 65s which is the same shaft I played in my 905t for around 8 years. Cant wait to get it on the range.

I still have my 983E and it's still the longest driver I've ever owned out of the center. Like your experience, you have to hit the middle.

It's never bugged me that a driver requires a "centered" strike. I have to do that with every other club, so it's not a big deal that a driver requires it as well

Interesting. I always ask the "blades help me concentrate" or "I want feedback" guys why they don't use a mid-2000s 0.83 COR driver to achieve the same thing. I usually don't get a response.

Still love this club. Titleist drivers feel great and I control them the best.

Does a 905r or a G5 or a J33r count ? I still use all of these. Out of everything I own, the G5 keeps up or is farther but the feel just seems harsh to me. But the 905r and my 910d2, those just feel great even compared to other ones I have not listed in this post.

I agree. I love my 905R drivers. I will still bag one once in a while.

Just picked one up the other day with an NV for $20. Had a few drives today that were crushed and sounded incredible, but lots of other shots that were so so. Requires a good strike. My Cleveland Classic is more consistent currently, but I’m going to get a few rounds in with it.

I'm not sure. Not that I am the definitive source anyways (laughing at self). I kind of skipped over the first 460cc drivers that weren't adjustable. I could never square them up at the time but finally realized I needed to learn how to hit one.

I don't know either, that's why I asked. Lol

905R is a timeless classic just like the 910D3. Having been a loyalist to both, the TS2 is just flat out better in every category except headcover.

Why do modern drivers sound so bad compared to those made 10-15 yeas ago?
