Well this was educating. I am just a rookie in this regard. I thought my passion was out of control but what a learning experience!

... The proliferation of the internet turned ho'ing into hoarding. It used to be we could buy a set of 762's for $699, play 'em 1/2 a season and sell em for $549-599 on a golf forum. Then the next guy plays 'em for several rounds and sells them for a $50 loss or even gets all his money back. Today you by a set of Cobra Forged Tours for $799 ($1200 off retail) and play em for 1/2 season and even in mint shape you can't get $349 for 'em. Maybe you get a request for different shafts and a low ball offer of $299 after re-shafting. Of course maybe you get zero offers too.

... Same thing with drivers and other clubs. Epic came out at $399 and has been reduced to $299. But if you bought one when it was first released and are now looking to sell it, even if it is in like new/mint condition, you won't get $149 for it even with an upgraded shaft. The Ho'ing landscape has changed dramatically from the day of playing and turning over clubs with a minimal dollar loss. So us old time Ho's now hoard rather than sell for a fraction of the clubs value.

It got so bad with the older stuff having little to no value, and ZERO market here on the BST (eBay is a last resort) that I ended up trading everything in to Rock Bottom Golf. Obviously didn’t get a huge amount, but they paid for shipping, and then I used the credit to buy something that was still sellable here.

I bought a second set of Adams Tour A's three months after the first because it had a unicorn Gap wedge. The second set is still in the shipping foam.

The price was right.

good irons right there. And yeah, the gap wedge was SO hard to find... I lucked out with someone parting theirs out to me before selling the set.

So..honest question here so don't skewer me here...what is the reason to have so many clubs? I personally have 3 sets since I finally upgraded this year after 13 years with my old irons. Are the "ho's" with all the clubs playing with them? trading/selling them? etc.....

My golf game would be a hot mess if I had that many options to choose from and swap between!!

I have no idea how good I could be if I just stuck with a set.......you ask a really valid question. I blame this forum.......and my weak-azz addiction to eye candy.

I went to club champion and he said he couldn't beat my iron or driver numbers. So I go out and buy another g400 max 9* since I have a 10.5* and get me 3 new epon iron heads that cost as much as a full set of regular irons.

New member who simply didn’t realize and started a new thread. He certainly didn’t hurt anything by starting a new one. Are there really any truely “new” threads anyway? Everything is a rehash of soemthing earlier. If no one ever started a new thread, we’ve have 20 total threads and each one would be 500 pages long!!

I can’t believe anyone would make a comment like that. In all honesty, an apology is in order.

cgasucks, you seem to be the only one making a fool of yourself as many others have stated.

The term "ho" needs updated. I, for instance, refer to myself as an equipment junkie, i.e. I buy and sell a handful of items just about every month, revolving door, never just hold a ton of stuff, have backups, some times more than one, sometimes I'll buy something as project build and then part was with it if I don't love it and recoup funds. On the other hand, there are hoarders, collectors, guys who have too much bloody money and buy(and hold) countless high dollar items just because they can.

Fun topic OP!

I don't have a pic of my entire collection but I've tried to tame it the best I can because the desire for new equipment never stops. My wife tells me I have to get rid of something when I buy something, I try to follow the rule, at least part of the time.

I will say this...most club hos or flippers tend to wind up with a bunch of excess "junk" clubs. Basically clubs that don't sell for much money and they'd rather just keep them than get $5 from the golf shop or $10 off craigslist. They reach the idea that they'd get more than $10 of enjoyment out of the club so they keep it....and then likely use it once every 4 years or less, haha.

To be completely honest I play quite a few of my vintage sticks----- I keep at least 6 sets bagged up to go at anytime complete with balls tees and gloves just grab and go. I tell my buds over in the classics forum anytime they want to fly down and do not want the expense of having their clubs flown in hey come on over and grab and go or pick you a empty bag and put you a set together. With me being a truck driver for a metal recycling company I can not honestly bear to see classic clubs go to the shredder to be destroyed. I get them for next to nothing and have given away or traded a lot of clubs over the years. I do not hoard or collect for a profit because Lord Knows there is not any profit in messing with this stuff unless you stumble over something super rare or collectable. With me also it is the looks and grain of a fine crafted persimmon wood. On irons or putters I love the shapes and craftsmanship of old forged irons. Old putters I love the designs of and a lot of those makers have passed on or moved to bigger and better things. I guess in my own quirky way I am helping preserve history

Hey man you ain't alone. I can not blame WRX though. I did this stuff before ever knowing about WRX. In fact I thought I was screwed up but then I discovered WRX and the Classics section and found out I was not so abnormal at all :taunt:

Well over in the Classics section we are just plain old antique uhh Classic Club Hoes but we do refer to our "craft" as being Classic Club Junkies or as you said "Equipment Junkies". But whether one is into the classic stuff like I am or into the newer stuff I guess we are all Club Junkies in our own right. I do trade and give away some stuff. Over they years I have had quite a few fellow WRXers send me stuff especially Macgregor stuff because they know I am a dyed in the wool Macgregor guy. Of course I do the same with say Wilson and other brands

Arnie, the greatest ho of them all...

That’s quite the collection!

Did he actually play all of those clubs at some time in his life?!?

From what I can gather and this is mere speculation--- He may not have played every one of them in competition but I would say he at least hit them and of course tinkered with them. Yep I would agree he was the King of Club hoeing too. Would love to spend several days looking through that collection. Note I said several days
