This is the problem with the pandering to well known players and the unbalanced Tour, by right Garcia should get a suspension that actually affects him on Tour but there are no events of note that he'd actually be taking part in/would miss. Can come back in July and all is forgiven. He's a big part of their marketing so they don't want to ban him from Rolex events when they're struggling for players as it is.

 

The European Tour is not in a spot to come down harshly on one their marquee players since too many are focusing on the PGA Tour lately. They freaked out when Rory said he wouldn't be playing their Tour until the fall. They gave Reed (who has never won a European Tour-only event) lifetime status. They changed the Ryder Cup qualifying rules to get Casey back in. And they pandered to Saudi Arabia to get a big tournament there.

 

Nothing will happen to Sergio other than his DQ today.

 

Augusta should suspend him from this April's tournament. That would be pretty good punishment.

Anyone see him, maybe yesterday, slightly upset with the conditions of the bunkers, specifically, how the previous caddies left them? I’d say compound that with not playing well and anyone in that position would be upset. Not justifying his actions by any means but everyone handles their frustrations differently, especially when their paycheck is on the line

If it's true he received a million bucks just for showing up to this tournament, the "paycheck" thing is a very poor excuse for his behavior. If anything he was messing with other guys' ability to earn their paycheck by damaging the greens.

I have been someone to defend Sergio more than most would but behaving like the way that he has done, is the moment for me that that stopped. There is simply nothing which can be said which would excuse or explain behaviour like that. I wonder if his wife will be coming out on Twitter to defend her man this time around?
