PGA Champ to be cancelled due to Coronavirus? (NO POLITICS)

Surely that's an improvement on the % of Americans who wouldn't drink Corona, before the coronavirus started making the news.

Ok. Now that no one is panicking, time for some rational thought. Usually when a city or a region declares a state of emergency, it is to allow them to request and use Federal money and allow them to do certain things without having them bogged down in red tape. For people to jump to the conclusion that the PGA might be cancelled is just fear mongering and irresponsible journalism.

Now that I've interrupted you with some rational thought, back to irrational fear mongering. Feel free to run amok and join the Prepper's in stockpiling food and guns.

Facebook global marketing summit and annual developers conference

major music acts including BTS have cancelled tours

religious pilgrimages in saudi arabia

these are some of the global events that have been cancelled. Fear mongering? irresponsible journalism? Governments are cancelling world events. these are facts.

Thing is

I don’t see anybody worried.

Im in NYC, fear mongering capital of the world ; )

Subway is packed, nobody cares, people sneezing, “God Bless you”. Nobody wearing masks or staying home.

Everyone I talk to, soldiers to leaders, think it’s overblown.

Good sign? I think so. If nothing blows up as far as new pockets of infected people, should be fine.

But, consider this is just year one of this particular virus and nobody really knows what evolves from these viruses that jump from animals to people.

Virus is a scary piece of work. These classes that jump species (animal to people etc) are potentially devastating as the new hosts (us) have no organized immune response.

Ok, ok, back to my Corona ; )

Just got back from Costco in van nuys. Virtually out of bottled water. No thermometers. No gloves. No purell.

Vibe in store was like a major disaster movie. No smiling or lingering. People shopping for food and medical. Other aisles were empty.

Really weird. Like end of days.

Fortunaltekly, Stella has a $21rebate if you buy a case. So I got that going for me if I don't keep over first!

All due to irrational fear boosted by irresponsible journalism.

The Flat Earth Society has an annual convention. That is a fact. Nothing about that makes the earth flat. It's just a sign that people want to believe what they want to believe. The current rage is constantly creating insurmountable mountains out of less than mole hills.

"Possible" overreactions for sure. There are some that are and some that aren't.

But with so many lives "possibly" at stake, it's more about taking reasonable precautions. I wouldn't conflate the overreactions of a high school principal with the much more considered reactions of the people organizing international events.

At this point, we really don't know how this will all pan out. It's come out of nowhere, suddenly, spread like wildfire all around the world and is killing people.

"I don't think it's as bad as they say it is" would be a dangerous assumption on which to base any actions. I'm pretty sure that's what the Japanese generals said, just before Hiroshima and that went poorly....

So I can assume you believe in science, the world is not flat. but you don't believe the scientists at the WHO, the CDC or the NIH among many others? threat level is at its highest now according to the WHO. the Olympic Games are at risk according to organisers why would the PGA championship be excluded. the Geneva car show in 2019 had 600,000 visitors. how many attended the PGA championship last year? the outrage over the outrage is outrageous ...

https://slate.com/human-interest/2020/01/coronavirus-outbreak-sars-swine-flu-viral-history.html

"In June 2010, a joint investigation by the British Medical Journal and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism concluded that the WHO had taken advice from scientists in the course of its pandemic planning who were also being paid by pharmaceutical companies that produced vaccines and anti-virals."

Not entirely unreasonable to maintain a bit of caution and skepticism. Doesn't mean they are wrong, but doesn't automatically mean they are right, either.

It’s very different from the flu in the fact it hasn’t killed anyone under the age of 9. It’s spreading because healthy people don’t know they have it.

It’s a respiratory virus that hits those with weak lungs the hardest. In China men have died at twice the rate as women. Also, China isn’t known for the best air quality.

If you’re in shape, exercise, don’t have asthma, and don’t smoke you have next to nothing to worry about.

I assume this is not a child...

“A man in Washington state has died of coronavirus”

“The state confirmed two coronavirus cases with no known origin late last night, bringing the case count for those with no known travel or contact with an infected person to four people, all on the west coast.“
