Who started the season off with a birdie on the first hole?

I find I tend to shoot my best rounds right out of the gate. Maybe it's low expectations or something but I will almost always fire something a few shots lower in y first few rounds than I would typically for the rest of the season. Not exactly on topic but I was playing with a person I met on another golf forum and his friend once, we had never met apart from exchanging a few PMs and posts back and forth prior. This was one of those warm but windy early October days when you're feeling fine mid round but early in and at the end of the round you feel like you want to kill yourself it's so cold and the wind is howling. I hadn't played in over a month and told them so. First hole, par 5, knocked a hybrid to about 15 feet, easy two-putt birdie. Next hole, fairway bunker off the tee because I hit my drive so straight and long (for me) that it ran out of room, hit a wedge to about 8 feet, easy birdie. The comments about me "not playing for a while" and "sandbagging" were prominent until the third hole, an easy par 3. I topped my iron off the tee, bladed the half wedge shot, and then chipped and 3 putted for a triple. They left me alone after that

Same principle I think, low expectations.

I did!! I thin bulleted a 4h down the middle of fairway then tossed a GW to about 6 inches. Rest of the round went to hell but I felt like a proper player for a minute lol.

I play my first round on Wednesday. I haven’t hit a ball in months so I’m confident I will birdie the first hole right until the time I write a 6 on the scorecard.

I did this in 2018...in January...in Hawaii. Hit it to 18 inches! It was all downhill from there, LOL.

We are still in lockdown at the moment here in the UK so no golf as of yet but the 1st hole at my club is an uphill 458 yard par 4. Birdies are not easy to come by!! I have started the season of with a 3 though. Hopefully it will be more of the same this year...although I can’t see it.

I hope you have a good start to the season once they let you back on course. I spent time chipping in the yard and putting on the carpet while I waited.

Through 25 years of golf, I've never started the year with a birdie. This year though, Jan 2, I started the year with eagle. Par 5 starting hole (510y). No warmup, the drive was long but not accurate, finding a fairway bunker. I caught the bunker shot thin but there wasn't really any lip so it shot out fast, low and veering right. The ball hit a small boulder near the 100y marker and bounced straight into the air, course correcting towards the green, landing about 25 feet away from the pin. Fairly straight putt which I just wanted to get close but it fell in.

Certainly not an example of stellar play leading to an eagle but I'll take it.

Did it today, hit the best iron shot of my life. 175 yard 6 iron in the rain to 6” from the rough.

I'm in south Florida; we don't get a start or end to golf season, we just keep playing. We do, however, get rainy season, hot as phuck season, hurricane season, and snowbird season.
