Dustin Johnson...Leave of absence from golf ..Any news? (MERGED)

Always thought that something was "off" with Dustin in the past year or two. When he speaks, he just doesn't seem normal. His speech is often not clear and his behavior is just odd.

With this news, I'm guessing it was some sort of drug or alcohol problem.

Just throwing this out there to back up what some others have said previously. Take it for what it's worth but I know a guy who spent quite a bit of time out at Kiawah a few years back or so and it was apparently pretty common knowledge there that DJ has been big into cocaine for awhile. (He told me this about a year ago)

Anyone that has been addicted to something like cocaine, heroine, or alcohol will tell you that they can literally not get through their day without shaking, getting sick, or just laying in bed without using.

People addicted to marijuana may have poor willpower, but can break the habit with very little side effect. People addicted to cocaine cannot do it cold turkey without feeling miserable.

I'm pretty certain not 'everyone' has been saying that. In fact, even the poster you quoted didn't say it.

The issue was whether it was addictive. You can bet your house it is. Whether a physical or psychological addiction, it's pretty ignorant to dismiss the full effect of it.

Btw, I'm no 'anti-drug' campaigner by any means but I think jumping on someone because they didn't distinguish between physical or psychological is pretty sanctimonious.

People who go from marijuana to harder drugs likely have other personal issues which orient them down that path. I disagree that Mary Jane is gateway drug. It's like saying a faster car is a gateway to killing people. It's the driver not the car.

This is what I find so troublesome about the PGA Tour. There is no clear cut policy like in other sports. They give the players the opportunity to withdraw themselves, instead of simply stating when somebody failed a test, informing the public what he took and how long the ban will be. It is always such a big secret that it breeds speculation whenever somebody goes missing for some time.
If an athlete is tested positive in the Olympics, you'll get all the facts. I can't understand why this can't be the same in golf. Must have something to do with US litigation laws.

Alcohol is 100% addictive, much more so than marijuana.

Marijuana is not physically addictive, regardless of the mumbo jumbo the government has fed you for the last 60-70 years. There is nothing in it that makes you want to start smoking crack or injecting yourself with heroin.

If the guy you are talking about was smoking weed, he would have been too lazy to rob anyone or try to kill the police, he would be at home watching cartoons and eating cheetos.
