SNELL GOLF BALLS??? anyone???

Recommended Posts

I'm a BIG believer in two things when it comes to golf balls; use the same ball ALL the time, and use a premium ball that has tested as having a high spin rate off a wedge.

Well, I'm 6 months in now using the MTB-X (yellow) and I couldn't be more pleased with this golf ball. It's a great ball; long, lots of spin off a wedge, and quite durable, all at an incredible price. I still have 4 doz. in the hall closet from my second order of 5 doz, and just ordered 5 doz more. The yellows are backordered, if that tells you anything about customer satisfaction; I doubt there are very many golf products on the market right now that are backordered!

Just a great product that I wish I had started using sooner.

I have been playing the Snell MTB-X on the local par 3 course and I am extremely impressed by the cover durability. Played 72 holes with the same ball and it is finally starting to show signs of wearing on the cover, this includes a number of full wedge shots. Once I need more balls I will definitely be buying a few dozen more!

curious, are you playing the white ball? i played both, and prefer the yellow, but if i had a complaint about the ball at all, it would be the yellow cover durability. the white was just fine. its not a big enough complaint from me ordering more yellow MTB-x but that would be the complaint if i had one at all.

I am playing the white version. Cousin gave me one of the yellow ones and I did notice it tended to wear a little bit quicker, still lasted longer than expected!

I've been playing a yellow ball in the winter for a number of years, and I honestly haven't noticed any difference between the cover durability of the yellow Snell vs either the yellow Chrome Soft or the Titleist NXT. I haven't played enough with the new, yellow ProV1's to know, but I would assume that they are no different.

Actually, I was expecting to see a difference in the durability of the yellow; I've been pleasantly surprised. If anything yellow balls in general seem to look better longer, at least to my eye, because they don't show as much dulling of the finish.

Played Snell since the beginning and the MTB-X Yellow just continues to impress me. For me, it’s just the perfect all around ball from the green back to the tee. It’s does everything I need and more.

Keep it going Dean! Always loved your products.

Interesting, because I was coming here to say the opposite. Love my MTB-X but I have been using my sim a lot recently, and noticing I have to take those balls out of rotation rather quickly (scuffed covers = screen death). And this is a sim we're talking about so its hitting a nice plush screen then dropping to the floor. They're getting chewed up pretty good by just the club.

Been loving the X, big time. But ordered a couple sampler dozens to work in the Black a little to see if I can get that ball a little lower. The X is funny for me because I hit a really high driver and ball just soars. It looks like a sky balloon but it just hangs there...and comes down further than any other ball I've gamed. Our course is bermuda so where it comes down is where it stays. Will experiment with the Black a little too, for a softer feel and maybe lower trajectory and lower spin. My swing is improving, which is exciting.

I'd be curious to see some sort of a controlled test on this vs other balls. Could you take a new ProV1x and hit it until this happens and keep count, or something like that?

Like Jetierney13, I have been pleasantly surprised by the cover durability of the MTB-X (yellow). I had been using Chrome Softs for years, and sort of expected the cover durability of the MTB-X to not be as good, which has not been the case at all. If I don't hit a cart path, the durability of the cover and script is as good as anything else that I've seen.

I mean, congrats. But, a true WRXer would have hit a 3-iron instead of a 5-iron and gone for the Albatross. Better luck next time.

J/k. Excellent job. Like you, I can get my driver pretty far out there and I prefer the MTB-Black over the X. I feel like the Black offers more control; the X can get pretty squirrelly for me off the driver at times. Also, props on playing a 65* wedge... that's ballsy.

I like the X better. Longer from the tee and better in the wind for me. The X has plenty of green side spin.

Played 18 with the MTB-X today. I had tried it previously but went back to old faithful (V1x) because I had though for some reason the Snell spun too much off of the driver. I honestly could not have been more impressed today with the balls performance. It was windy and it did quite well. Same ball the entire round as well and in this instance durability seemed to be much better than the V1x. A couple wedges and I usually get some “gilling” but nothing of the sort with the Snell today. Must say it has once again really peaked my interest. Ordered two dozen while I wait for my back ordered 4/3 customized V1X’s and I was really impressed. May have a bunch of ProV’s I can’t sell unless anyone has the initials MJV and likes the # 23 ha!

Played Snell exclusively for about three months. I really REALLY enjoyed them. I had zero complaints and thought they felt, sounded, reacted just like any other top tier ball.

With that said I have since switched to the new Tour BX and the only reason I did that was because I noticed I was tearing up the Snell on full wedge shots. I tend to play my game into my 52 degree wedge for a full shot when I can and I would scuff the cover after 5-7 holes to the point where I didnt want to use it. I felt liek the cost savings up front were negated by the durability aspect of the cover. That truly was my ONLY gripe with the ball.

10 more dozen to Johnsburg, IL!

Didn't need balls, but I wanted to try the MTB Black and decided to grab five more X while I was at it.

Bought the Black in yellow so I didn't mix them up during rounds.
