SNELL GOLF BALLS??? anyone???

Another Snell MTB-X believer here ... it’s long, fast, bites hard, spins just the right amount and is plenty durable. I love the feel off the putter face. It literally is the firmest ball on the market.

TIP: Hit the center of the club head and the firmest of balls feel like butter too. Why would I want to disguise a mishit?

I'm surprised people don't talk about the wind. The black is so much better than any other ball I have tested in the wind. I have bought countless dozens of black and can't see myself ever switching. It is just a better ball. Money is not an issue when it comes to which ball I buy. The black is just better. My plus buddy was having an issue spinning the ball back too much on softer greens. Gave him a black to test and after a few holes he is sold on them. I ordered a sample pack so he could test the x. I have never hit one until yesterday. On my buddies GC2 I had the longest drive I ever registered on his sim, by a good margin. I will be testing the x again tonight against the black. The x was always 200-400rpm more on 7i shots over the black. The real test will be taking it outside. We will take them to Florida in a few weeks for a week of golf.

My only issue is the outer layer will delaminate on some of the balls. Some have a tiny bubble right out of the package and it you pick at it at all, it starts to peel this thin layer off. Out of all the balls I have bought (probably 25 dozen) I have had about 10 balls that were new that I did not use due to the bubble. With that said, no chance of me switching brands, these balls are just that good. I have never looked at the slip so never noticed the hand written stuff but I will from now on, very cool of Dean to take the time to do that!

I've decided to move on from the MTBX (compared to Prov1X)

The good:

iron distance the samegreen stopping power is as goodputting is comparable feel and controlThe not so good:

chips and short game Shots do not spin or hold for me not especially on slick greensdriver distance about 10-15 years shortThe not so good override everything else.

I started down the journey of Snell this summer. bought the dual pack and really liked both. settled on the MTB-X in yellow. first, i love the yellow. please don't change that shade of yellow. second, i love the ball. been using it all summer, fall and winter. if there is any complaint is the yellow comes off pretty easy, but i still love the way they feel and perform

Another shout out to the greatness of the Get Sum. I've been gaming the MTB-X and it's my favorite primo ball. But, every now and then I'll pull a Get Sum out of the bag and play it and, I have to say, it's really a great ball. Goes long off the tee. Spin off the shorter clubs is not a problem with the ball either. Plenty of stopping power when it hits the green.

I'm not sure why you would get a distance difference between these two balls, much less a distance difference that favors the ProV1x. In the "Today's Golfer" testing, the two advantages of the ProV1x are about 400 rpm's of additional spin off a wedge (which comes out to only about 5%, fwiw) and tighter dispersion. In those two categories, the ProV1x leads not only the MTB-x, but every other ball as well.

The MTB-X and the ProV1X are so similar in driver distance, with the MTB-X being a yard longer, that there isn't much to choose from there, which is why your results seem unusual. I could understand if a different type of ball gave you different results, but these two balls are SO similar, except for price, that I think I'd be unable to tell the difference in a blind test; by sound, by spin, by distance, or anything else. Except for price...

Something I've noticed with other golf balls (one being the MTB Black) makes me wonder if Neurotica's results could be trajectory related, in whole or in part? In the case of the two balls that I'm referencing, I found one noticeably shorter than the other, due to the lower overall flight of one of them. When I increased driver loft (same driver head, not a club switch) with the lower flight ball, the distance results were similar.

Having not played either the MTB-X or ProV1X, I have no idea if trajectory could even be in play. But, it's theoretically possible that trajectory, or some other not frequently considered aspect, could be influencing his results.

I thought about trajectory differences immediately, but I can't imagine that any differences between those two balls are significant, much less worth the differences he's reporting.

The "Today's Golfer" testing that I referenced tested at 85, 100, and 115 mph swing speeds, and at each one, the differences in ball speed, spin rates, and carry distance between the MTB-x and the ProV1x were just next to nothing. Spin rate differences were less than 100 rpms, and carry distances were identical at 100 mph; the ProV1x was 1.3 yds shorter at 85 mph, and 2.2 yds. shorter at 115 mph. If two balls are spinning at or near the same rate, and carrying at or near the same distance, I don't think the trajectory could be much different at all.

I just took a look at the ball test done by the site which shall not be named. 12 foot difference in peak height at 115mph, 5 ft at 85mph.

Actually I did see a lower trajectory at least to my eye using the prov1x. In fairness the judgement of distance with the driver was more of an average basis rather than best hits. On best hits they were close enough not to notice but on an average basis with mishits etc there was a more definitive difference between the 2...for me.

I could live with the driver results but the short game difference along with the above swayed my decision ultimately.

Got to get out solo early yesterday. It was at a very nice local muni course. I like to get out on the back long before anybody makes the turn - 9 holes of what we call "dawn patrol". Anyway, since I was solo I played two balls on several holes - the Get Sum and the MTB-X. FWIW, it was foggy and about 44 degrees. It was, as always, interesting. I hit my longest drive of the year (so far) on #13, 300 yards even. Disappeared into the fog and stopped a yard from where it landed right in the middle of the fairway. Everything's soft/muddy around here lately. That was the Get Sum. Then, on #16 there's a huge oak tree about 150 yards out right in the middle of the fairway. The play is to go over it. I hit both drives high and very hard. The X was about 6 yards longer than the Get Sum. Both balls are really great, really. Can feel the softness of the Get Sum, especially in these colder conditions, over the X.

Same thing happened to me at the driving range last summer. We're like a cult group playing the Snell balls (in a good way though). I keep telling people how good the balls are and at the price point it's hard to beat too. I'm liking the MTB X a little better at the moment but I switch between that and the MTB during the year depending on what I have in my stockpile.

Snell Golf was started in 2015, according to their website. Their initial offering was definitely called the MTB, which stood for My Tour Ball, and the "alignment" imprint actually did say My Tour Ball. Newer models simply said MTB there. A few years ago that ball morphed into the MTB Black, and a higher-spin MTB-Red was introduced. The Red was discontinued and the MTB-X was introduced to be the higher-spin offering. That's simplifying a bunch, but the short answer to your question is that the MTB Black is pretty similar to the original MTB, which was first introduced about 5 years ago or a little less.

I've been gaming the Srixon Z Star XV for a few years because it seemed to be the best yellow premium ball for me. Also gave the regular Z Star a go. The only problem I've had with the Srixon balls is that I get a little too much spin on the mid and short irons. After looking at a lot of different ball tests, and also seeing that there are more premium balls in yellow now, it looked like Snell might be a good replacement. I kept seeing that the MTB-X had more spin on the mid irons than the MTB Black but that launch and spin off the driver were similar. The X probably could get me 1-2 more mph ballspeed off the driver, but I would never notice it. Decided to order the MTB Black to try out. They feel good off the putter. Looking forward to putting them in play to see how they perform before fully committing.

For a couple years I was pretty exclusive with the Srixon Z Star and the XV. They are very good balls. I seemed to do better with the XV off the driver. I prefer both MTB models, though. The X is consistently fantastic with the longer clubs for me. The Black is soft and feels like "aaahhh" off the irons.

The current MTB Black is already a great ball so feedback for additional enhancements would simply be more of what it already does well:

*Enhance spin separation (lower spin off the tee & more spin around the green)

*Improve cover durability

Ultimately, please keep the feel the same (the MTB Black and X are the most unique feeling balls on the market IMHO with the X being the best feeling high overall compression ball I have ever tried).
