Well, if we are going to talk about the Rules...

There is no one ball rule; the Rules of Golf allow the player to change balls at the beginning of any hole, and even if there is a second ball to be played in a relief situation.

There is a "one ball condition" option in Appendix I of the Rules, and THAT is what is done on the pro level, and in many competitions involving "highly skilled amateurs". I have rarely seen the one ball condition in effect; for instance, I played in two Carolinas Golf Association senior four balls last week, and we played under standard rules with no adoption of the one ball condition.

If it was in use in a club tournament, it would be the first time I ever heard of that, and I would imagine that the OP might have known.

Well tried them again today, both MTB black and the x. Both lost to q star tour and my Bridgestone b rx. Really wanted to like them, they both felt great just didn’t perform like the other 2. I am going to stock up on q star tours esp for $20 per dozen. Thanks guys and hit em straight.

Well, if it is pros only, I stand corrected.

My information came from the Rules forum in another thread (which I don't remember the title of) and several rules gurus chimed in that it is not permitted - for everyone.

If I remember incorrectly, I apologize for the confusion.

after a 5 month-long experiment with most premium balls types, I have to say snell is just average when it comes to distance off the tee (for me at least), although it is a great ball with irons, due to the higher spin. Longest balls that I tested? Pro V1X, Pro V1, Tour BX and TP5X. After im done using all the rest, I will stick to those 4.

I have to agree. I think it is a very well designed golf ball but for whatever reason it didn't seem to fit me. I would love to use Snell because I like what Dean stands for and love supporting the small guy. Maybe I should give the Black another run.

Not sure if you've seen this, but it's the most extensive golf ball testing I've ever seen. The MTB-X holds up REALLY well, and is a match for other premium balls in every respect, and it really exceeds all the others except the ProV1x and the TM TP5-x. And it does that at nearly half the price.

That doesn't mean it's the ball for you, but I can't find a dime's worth of difference between it and the ProV1x in actual play. https://www.todaysgolfer.co.uk/features/equipment-features/2019/september/robot-tested-which-golf-bal-suits-my-game/

It’s strange that some of the data from that ball test conflicts with the other ball test out there. Mainly dispersion. I wish they did a better test of the Bridgestone balls. Bridgestone and Titleist are the only ones that make their own rubber and control the process start to finish. I think that matters when it comes to consistency.

i have seen and read it about 10 times now, hehehe, that's how I got interested in trying the Snell MTB-X. One of the balls you really want to love and be above all, but in my case and for my swing , it appears not. But not saying is a bad ball, same has happened with many other premium balls.

I wonder if Srixon should be included with Bridgestone in that "producing their own rubber" category. It makes a certain sense, if one considers the name (Sumitomo Rubber Industries) of the parent organization.

Though, speculative logic doesn't always apply in such situations. LOL

Nor does the information that you get from what you would believe to reputable sources. I spent a while last night listening to podcasts and videos at 2x speed trying to find the place where I received the misinformation, and I couldn't find it. They did mention Srixon and how their balls are produced. I don't want to post what was mentioned at fear of it being inaccurate.

Has anyone gone from the MTB-X to Black? I am having a hard time finding a ball I like. The prov1x and MTB-X spin too much. I spun balls off the green with each yesterday. I am a high spin iron player. The BRX doesn't spin enough. Z-star is too soft, and the BX seems just about right but I don't love the price (the non-sale price) and the fact I can't find it in yellow. Have any of you played both the BX and Black?

I have a box of yellow XV's coming. If I don't like those, I will probably play the Black or Z-Star. Probably the Black just because of the price point with the Z-star going back up to $40. Thanks for the info on those balls. I can get used to something that right now feels too soft. I can't however reduce or gain spin without going through some swing changes
