This is an unfortunate truth.  I bought some of the Blacks some time ago and really liked them. However, the cost now does not offer any advantage over other premium balls.

It certainly stinks for Canadians but not much Snell can do about a weaker canadian dollar compared to the US dollar.  Their cost is their cost and they need to make a profit.

Everyone's got to make a profit and that's fine. But I'm not going to drop $60 on a dozen and more if I want to compare the MTB and the X. And if they compare to the RXS or the XS, I'd have no problem stocking up 6 dz at time at the discounted rate.

 

Isn't supposed to be like a drug, get em hooked and then they go all in?

If your referring to Bridgestone I thought the balls were supposed to compare to the XS and X or prov1 and prov1x and so on.

As a Canadian you should not be surprised by the increased cost of an import good (especially from a small company that does not have a presence in Canada) . Comments like “Canadian market is screwed by Snell” are a bit out of line.

Got a test pack, so far MTB Black is winning, could be because I played really well during that "test" vs the MTB-X. ?

TXG did a nice visit on the black and X a day or two ago. Unfortunately, I still have a bunch of balls to get through Before my next buy.

@Snell Golf, any expected new product coming in hot? What are the new names? I expect ill be looking for a new ball in about 2 months.

After playing the MTBX the first half of the year and the Srixon XV the second half, safe to say I’ll be playing the MTBX for the foreseeable future. I will definitely be buying the value pack (6 dozen) on Black Friday ?

Coming from Srixon XV for the past 3 years, I wanted to try something new decided to give the MTB-X a go. After several rounds I believe I found a new gamer.

 

FEEL 

• XV - Firm golf ball so from driver to putter, you'll notice compared to a softer ball. I never minded and just figured at a faster club head speed, I needed one. Recent version was better off the putter.
• MTB-X - I immediately noticed an improved feel for putting, however, off irons/driver I noticed the bigger difference in terms of soft feel. Coupled with my z785 irons, I barely notice the ball at times.

PLAY-ABILITY

• XV - Flight is not high and seem to fly well and be consistent in the wind. I usually like it for this reason. I got pretty use to how far this ball would fly for me. Spin was far less on iron shots. I rarely saw balls spin back, even on soft/watered greens. 
• MTB-X - Immediately noticed how much higher that ball launched on irons than my srixon. I sort of expected this as I figured I would get more spin out of the ball. Nothing that would be a problem but definitely noticed some added length because of it. Spin tho..... I forgot what it's like to spin back balls on greens. I had an 8i on Saturday spin back 8 yards or so (little bit of a down slope after 10 ft) but was flying wedges a yard past the pin and having them check back into ideal spots.

DURABILITY 

• XV - This is why I wanted to try a new ball. I'm stocked up on 4 dz but I was lucky to keep 1 ball in playing condition for 9 holes.
• MTB-X - Played 18 holes with the same ball and barely noticed a difference compared to a new ball. This is a major reason for why I'll be playing this ball. 

 

Srixon ball is not bad and I don't mind having a ball not spin back 5 yards on shots but playing firm/fast greens, it'd be nice to have a little more stopping power. The durability though is what I really hated. I'd have all sorts of little nicks and gashes in the cover that would require replacing during a round.

Isn't the MTB Black the soft (compared to the MTB X) just like the Pro VI is softer than the Pro VIx?

Yes. The Black already feels very soft, so I'm not sure that it could get much softer without drastically affecting the performance.

Got 'em and played one round.  Naturally, it was a day I had a terrible swing.  Nevertheless, the MTB Black seemed as good as other balls such a V1/V1x, TP5/TP5x, etc.  I was able to hold the wedges on the pitches and chips, and one full 54 degree wedge was sitting right behind and on part of its pitch mark.  I like the feel.  I'll dig out an old One Tour D next time and try them together.

 

Distance seemed fine.  Won't play again for a couple weeks - hope I bring a better swing.  I didn't play for two years, so right now I don't know which guy is gonna show up at the course...

Wonder if anyone would do a comparison of BXS and MTB Black. BXS is easily one of my most favorite balls ever played up there by RZN Tour Platinum. And that’s saying something. 
I want the Black MTB to check all the boxes that BXS checked for me

Dang, I just checked to see they're on backorder until 9/23. Mega bummed I can't buy more before my golf trip that week. not sure if 2 sleeves will last 5 rounds, including Wolf Creek in Mesquite....

I a gonna re-state this, if you loved the TM LDP Red.....IMO the MTB Black is the same ball....complete ball

Better way to state that would be that the MTB Black is the closest option in terms of performance characteristics to the TP Red LDP (they in fact do not have the same construction).

Unfortunately, I can’t say I’ve had the pleasure. Joined the scene a bit late. I’ll go on eBay and see if I can find some of those but, why waste the $$$?

Oh nice. That still doesn't help me haha. I can buy prior gen BXS new for 18 a dozen right now. Always wanna try some different stuff though. Waiting to see what could possibly be up the mad scientists sleeve.

I tried the new Titleist Tour Speed today, and the Snell MBTx blew it away.

I found some on Amazon.... not ideal, as I don't like buying through them but at least I'll have more until I can order more direct from Snell.

Was able to order a trial dozen at the begining of the week and hit the course with them today. The X plays like the Pro V1x as expected. The Black was good until I got to the longer clubs. I have a higher swing speed and spin and the ball just wants to keep going up with the woods. I hit some absolute moon balls with the black.
