Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

I ended up back at Prairie Bluff today. I was looking forward to my first round with the 917 but, on the first tee, the head came flying off. I guess the epoxy hadn't cured but I'll definitely be causing a scene at the PGATSS. I'm aware it's Titleist's fault and not theirs but I'm hoping to get something free out of this. I didn't really need a driver today anyway and shot a 74. Two birdies helped, including a chip in on 18.

How long had the epoxy set?

I have no idea. I had it shipped to me from Titleist because the PGATSS didn't have the 64 gram Fujikura shaft available. It arrived on Thursday via FedEx. I haven't had any past quality control problems with Titleist so I'm hoping this was a one time incident.

How wet was it out there?

It was pretty soaked. Some spots were much worse than others and my feet sank a bit on a couple of holes. There was no standing water on the greens and the tee boxes were in pretty good shape. If you're a digger, don't bother. The turf would explode and the ball won't go anywhere. If you can sweep, on the other hand, it's very playable.

Thanks for the response. Digger or sweeper- hmm - I have both shots but not sure when... Might wait til Monday or Tuesday and hopefully will dry out. Were there alot of golfers out there?

Got out to Cog #2. Really wet, with greens rolling solid 3-3.5. Despite the conditions, it was nice to get out in the middle of January. Wound up shooting 76 with 4 birdies. All 3 courses were packed.

There were more people than I expected. I saw about 5-6 foursomes and another 4-5 twosomes. It was also 60 degrees and sunny, which tends to bring people out if it's January. It's supposed to be in the low 40s and cloudy on Monday and Tuesday so courses shouldn't be as crowded.

The guys at the Tour Store confirmed what I figured regarding my driver that was headless after one swing. When Titleist was assembling it, they put the head on the Surefit hosel before the epoxy had completely dried. It was an easy fix and I'll just have to wait to put the head on for good until tomorrow afternoon. They said it was the first time anyone has had a problem with the 917 line.

Last Sunday, I took a look at the 7 day forecast and figured Monday and Tuesday would be the only days I would be able to play for quite a while. Luckily I've accumulated plenty of unused sick days at my job. I walked 36 at Dunne on Monday and had scores of 76 and 74. There's something beautiful about walking 36 holes at GDN in 5 hours, especially since it usually take that long just to play 18 holes there. The course was really wet in some spots but it dried up a little as the day went on. The bunkers weren't playable and I had to use my foot wedge a few times to get the ball away from the mud but overall it was more playable than I expected.

On Tuesday, I played 18 at Sanctuary and had a 73. I realize there's tons of love on these forums for the Epic, M1, and M2, but the 917 finds fairways for me a lot more consistently than my 915 did. Sanctuary was in really good shape. It didn't have any soggy spots and the fairways and greens were much drier than they were at Dunne.

Walking 36 at GDN in 5 hours is really movin' it.

The dispersion on the 917 is much tighter than it was for the 915. As a result, I was able to hit almost every fairway and green. Doing so really sped up the round. Also, I don't really spend too much time on the greens in the winter. There's no use hovering over a long birdie putt on a surface that hasn't been rolled in months and has about two dozen footprints in the way. Last, I took advantage of the ice on the water hazards and cut 4, 11 and 18. I've never been 115 out for my second shot on 18 before. Is it cheating to take advantage of the frozen conditions? I'm saying no but I'm sure some people on here might disagree.

It's pretty awesome that some of you are still playing. I have been resisting the urge to even touch a club for fear of getting the golf bug and am too busy to plan any trips to a warmer climate but did go to the dome in Addison this afternoon. First time swinging since roughly early November and it was UGLY... ugly enough for me to be able to put the thought of golf on the back burner for 2 more months.

High 40s and overcast on Saturday is definitely playable. The courses off I 80 out South got an inch of snow though. It'll be gone after good temps on Friday but those places could be really wet.
