Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Played Red Tail this morning. It was pretty wet and most of the bunkers had some standing water in them. The greens weren't in the best shape. Still had a great time.

Got out to Crystal Woods today. Great condition...very few collections spots with water. There was no one on the tee sheet and we played in just about 3 hours. I always forget how tight the fairways are and how small the greens are as well. Spent about 20 minutes with the GM and asked about the biz. They're down already because of the weather and they think this is going to be a tough year. Leagues, permanent tee times and events are down.

Just a couple of frosty beverages and then off to Costco.

I walked 36 today at Redtail and Foxford. There's a lot to be said for you guys who go to the range first, since I wasn't making good contact early on. I opened up with bogies on the first two holes, which are generally pretty easy par holes. I kind of got it together but had no birdies en route to a 77. Foxford was a different story. I was sandwiched in between two groups who wanted no part of playing with a walker. That was fine with me since I had time for plenty of practice swings in between shots. The 20 mph winds messed with me during round one but I was able to deal with them for round two. I ended up shooting a 72 with bogies on 1 and 4 and birdies on 3 and 14. The greens at Redtail were kind of spongy but they were running pretty quick and very smooth at Foxford. I don't like spending too much per round since on weekends and holidays I prefer to budget for two rounds. However, I might have to cough up the cash for Foxford more often. It was in pristine condition. Plus, it's one of the few area courses that offers PGA tour-style roll in the fairways.

Played Tanna Farms in incredibly windy weather again. One day I can't make a put, the next I drain everything. That's golf.

Suggesting you take our your Kevlar Sir for referencing TF.

My friends booked the tee time. I don't hate the course, but the lack of a driving range on a course where you start out with a par 3 is unfair.

It's a once a year course here but I don't hate it. The dichotomy between 9's is huge. The front is basically a par 3+ course and you can get both par 5's pretty easily in two. On the back, you end up playing 3 of the last 4 holes directly into the wind and I have to imagine 17 was a b**** today.

They need to cut a range deal with Milf Creek.

We were into the wind almost the entire front 9 and with it for almost the entire back. I just hate that on 3 par 5s (2, 13, and 17) if you hit a long drive right down the center, they stop cutting the fairway and there is a section of deep rough my ball always finds its way into.

4 rounds over the weekend at Lawsonia. Both courses in great shape. Greens were amazing as usual. Forgot about the learning curve on the greens and had 8 3-putts my first round. Had the lag figured out by the end of the weekend.

Mike Davis, head of USGA, played Lawsonia a couple weeks ago and said they were some of the best greens he'd ever seen.

Five rounds in Ann Arbor over the holiday weekend, including a day at the Volvik Championship (http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1492506-ann-arbor-trip-report/). 'Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a weekend road trip.

great write up of your trip argonne!

I played Highland park again this past Saturday morning. Pace of play was fantastic, and the course was in great shape. Really enjoy the mix of holes even though it's a pretty short track. Strategy and shot placement are key to scoring and you can be blocked out if you're on the wrong side of some holes. Really like the par 3 11th, as it frames up beautifully, but is a bit diabolical with water right and OB left.

Also got a couple of rounds in at the lakefront (sydney marovitz) over the holiday weekend. out early so no pace issues and they've got it in the best shape I've ever seen it in, but it was US Open style rough. it was tough to locate balls in and even tougher to hit shots out. It was a combo between flyers and digging the ball out with a wedge to get back to the fairway.

Yeah, both Marovitz and Jackson Park were in surprisingly good shape this month, minus the bunkers of course.

I think we could use a little drought about now. I'm getting tired of these weekend forecasts with t-storms throughout the day.

Complete random question. Anyone, particularly in proximity to NW burbs (think Woodfield Mall), have a launch monitor (Mevo, GC2, etc)? Was thinking about trying to find someone on here that might have something they use, and willing to meet up at a range, or even their place (assuming they have the hitting space). Only other real option I can think of/find is a range in the far NW that has Trackman, that is like $50/hr, $30/half (Golf Acadamy at Terra Cotta).

I would love to get 'real' data in regards to carry, and try to figure out my wedge distances. Anyways, just a thought I had, and figured I ask you Chicago bunch.

The PGA superstore near Woodfield mall has a decent launch monitor setup and is pretty reasonable from what I understand. You can hit in a bay for half hour increments and get a decenta mount of ball date (no club or path data that I'm aware of). I know it's not as ideal as on a range, but it's decent and reasonable.

I happened to stop by the PGA store today as I am going to be in the market for another driver, and was checking to see if they happened to have any used 913D2 (they didn't), and noticed they now have GC2 launch monitors. Not sure when they put them in, as I haven't been to the store in a few months, but definitely makes the thought of utilizing the practice bays a bit more appealing to me.

I'll second that emotion. We planned this weekend at the Crook. Plays like a wet dog after heavy rains.

Hope everyone nearby gets a round in.

Playing in a scramble at Pinecrest in a week. Never played there. What's it like?

Very nice parkland course. Usually in very good condition with good greens. They taken a bunch of trees out so the course is playable. The par 3 11th is an island ish green. The range is just OK.

Summer, who runs banquets and the restaurant is a sweetheart and easy on the eyes.

If you get off 90 going north on 47, be careful as there is usually a law enforcement officer sitting on the right waiting for speeders, and I'm not talking about shafts.

What is everyone's favorite range? Hard to beat St Andrews.

Stonewall Orchard. Rather than range rocks they use NXT Tour S yellow practice balls (very similar to a country club range), it's full so you can hit every club, and they have grass tees. There's also a short game practice area to the left of the 3rd hole that's pretty solid. Of course, people tend to pocket the practice balls and I see them all over the course, especially on 4 and 5.

It's a good range. The grass is fairway short, but their target greens are small. The green on the short game area is new, so it's difficult to hold any shot. Prairie Landing has a great short game area though.

I'll admit it: I abuse the Pine Meadow range/practice facility. Its easy for me to get to, great bunker/pitching area, lots of space to hit balls.

People seem to forget the practice green/bunker that is near the lower grass range and always seem to stay by the one near the clubhouse.
