Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Was supposed to play in a scramble today but it was cancelled...so we actually made it out on our local muni Renwood this morning about 6:40. Temps weren't bad and wind was quite limited. Really like the new Columbia vest I picked up at the outlet mall a few weeks back. Course was in good shape. Hands were a bit cold...but overall a really nice day out on the course. Got around in 2:50. Not bad for a walking 3-some.

Wedges are still iffy (flew 3 greens from 75-90 yards), but the drills I'm working on from Tim Overman are really helping the full swing. Had 4 birdies, with 4 other really good looks. 35/36 for a 1 under 71. If I were to hit more irons off the tee with the tightness of that course, I'd probably score a bit better. But driver is so much more entertaining.... Rain started as soon as we got off the 18th hole...and soon after came the snow. Ground is pretty much covered and the heavier stuff is supposed to begin pretty soon here. Good day to stay home and work on getting the business up and running.

18 hole league opener was cancelled for tomorrow and moved to next Sunday. First 9 hole night is Monday....it's still on...as of now. Fingers crossed!

Stay warm folks!

The fact that no one in the area is still on Spring Rates even though there was an expletive deleted blizzard yesterday is nuts. Washington County does it right. Spring Rates until June 3rd.

No kidding! We wound up playing this morning at George Dunne. The conditions were probably better than expected (I don’t think they got that much snow), but it was still cold, windy, and wet. Price to play? $72, only because we got the FPG card rate?.

$72 for George Dunne in April?! That is robbery.

Just a FYI for the northerners but Pine Meadow aerated last week. Played two weekends ago and the course handed the winter well. The greens were in pretty good condition, which is saying something for PM.

Saturday round at Orchard Valley was rescheduled to Sunday morning, then Sunday noon. If you didn't know it snowed up north you probably wouldn't have guessed it. Course was understandably a little wet in spots but otherwise very playable. Greens ran pretty smooth and sneaky quick. It was an odd combination to have the course soft and wet in spots, yet the greens slightly firm in that I couldn't get a chip to check. Unfortunately as we walked off 18 I looked over at the practice green and though, huh that looks a little odd. Aerating, big cores. I know they need to do it but it just sucks since they were running pretty well. Wind from the east wreaked havoc all day, felt like we were constantly playing a cross wind, and even when we thought it was helping it seemed to always be hurting, shots coming up short all day.

V isn't the one to brag on himself so I'll do it for him. On #1 he piped his drive on the green and ended about 15 feet from the hole. Um...did I mention he hit 3W on a 300+ yard hole? I'm stupid, he's stupid long.

As he mentioned, our tee time was moved from Saturday to Sunday morning to Noon-ish. We didn't have a lot of snow overnight and it was sunny and above freezing on Sunday morning. As I was getting ready to leave the house, I called OV just to make sure we were still good. That's when the surprise of them not opening until Noon was learned. I asked if they were calling or emailing people with tee times and the response was a rather interesting, "No, we don't do that." We could have had guys from the group drive an hour and find out that we weren't playing for another 3 hours.

Hey OV...let people know what's up, OK?

... Unreal. I played with a PGA Club Pro last week that did the same thing. 542 yd par 5 and he hit 3 wood and a 235yd 4 iron about 10' past the pin. It is very impressive and humbling to play with anyone that can hit the ball like that. (Although I would guess the ball rolls a little farther in the Phoenix desert and the 100* temps than it does at OV)

My favorite part of V driving the first green was a former WRX'er playing with us who didn't think he was going for the green because he hit 3W.

Tee is to the right of the screen, and DP4 is being extra generous or overly senile today, perhaps both, as my GPS said 275 to the center, and we were downwind. Being the genius that I am, that was the only time I hit that club yesterday.

My reward for complimenting V is being called senile. Sheesh. No more Mr. Nice Guy...not that he was ever there in the first place.

BTW, they closed the bar at 5 on Sunday afternoon. What's up with that?

I don't see how they could realistically charge less than $50 for a weekend slot, unless it was twilight or afternoon. TPC Harding Park is a muni, and a weekend morning round will cost a local (with a resident card) $87. A Bay area resident will pay $121, and a non-resident $207.

Sigh. I guess it's that time of the year. I checked a dozen local courses for a Saturday morning round (i.e. 7 am - 8:30 am), and it was slim pickings. I assume permanent tee times have kicked in. Harborside wants $89 (+ tax) for a round, and when I was out there two weeks ago the grass was still dormant. 'No chance.

I wound up booking a 7:45 am spot at Sunset Valley. Hopefully the drainage has improved since the renovation.

Looking forward to your report back. Have yet to play Valley since the renovation. I've been holding off waiting to hear reports back that the greens have settled in and are receptive.

I think the people commenting on rates being below $50 aren’t familiar with golf, and the different tiers of courses and fees. If they pull this off, I think it’ll be in the $100 range. While Harding Park is a “muni,” I’m not sure it’s an apples to apples comparison. The Bay Area has a much higher cost of living.
