Lol

Clever retort notwithstanding, I stand by the statement that it doesn't take a highly trained athlete to generate the speed necessary to hit legit 300 yard drives. Just reiterating. I'm not gonna die on this hill or get in a debate about it. I just know it to be true.

400. I had 125 left into a 425 par 5 in a tournament and made birde. Next day had 175 (350 drive) and made made eagle. All I can say is golf. Also I thought I was long and then I met a real long driver (I think it may have been Sadlowski but this was before he was famous). There was a long drive competition at PGA superstore. Hit early in the competition and put up a number around 330 and thought I was good. Came back 20 min later after browsing the store and saw this guy who couldn't have been above 5'10" put it between 380-400. He let me try his driver (xx house of forged shaft) and got to 350 but I couldn't get anywhere near the numbers he was putting up. The sound he made was ridiculous.

i'll say this: legit 300 is insanely long. In fact, it can be kinda hard to manage 280+ on a sub 6500 yd course if you aren't super accurate: you will run through fairways and the landing areas will be 40+ yds behind you. Our 18th hole is a little more than 450 from the back tee. it's a gentle double dog leg, and a 290 drive as measured on Google Earth or GPS will leave me with a 9i to most pins, perhaps a wedge. If one were to hit a well placed 320 yd drive on that hole, it'd be a pitch in. Most of the members are hitting hybrids into that hole. I'm not sure it'd be much more than average for a PGA Tour par 4, though I didn't bother to check that.

My friend Josh use to really smack them long
He's a mere mortal now in the low 300's
I might have a new one technically but it really is just a product of 20-30 mph helping wind, 50 feet of elevation and a cart path. Drove the green in a 365 yard par 4. No official measurement but the card says 365 and I had a 20 ft eagle putt which I missed of course
You reminded me of a similar story. I was playing in a tournament and I got to a 345 yard par 4 a touch down hill not too much. And I had been hitting it just a touch longer than the guys I had been playing with all day we all sit in the range of 270-300. And they all went and we're just in the fairway probably had 70 yards in or so. So I hit my drive and I knew I hit it on the screws and it was down the center. So I pick up the tee and start to put my driver in the bag. And the one kid in my group goes. Oh my gosh that almost just went in. And I say your crazy that must be something else. And he says no look at the official. So I look down at the official that was green side and the dude is freaking out. And I get down there and he goes your ball lipped out I thought it was going in. That has to be one of the greatest shots I've ever seen. I had about 6 inches for eagle. I still have no explanation for how I hit it that far and that well. But I know it carried about 340.

My longest was about 335-340 - straight, flat hole that was slightly downwind but nothing crazy (~10 mph). Killed it down the middle and must have carried about 280 and ran 50.

Longest into a green off the tee: 356 with wind help. I was at the back of the green so closer to 360.

Longest natural (no rock hard ground, wind, cart path): 330. That one is kinda funny, we were playing at a bachelor party this summer and one of the guys was a longer hitter, but he always swung for the fences and rarely found a fairway. I was a better player than the rest of that particular group, so he made sure I knew it when he put one out there past me. I was playing to win the cash game, which he seemingly forgot about. I had finally had enough of the D measuring and decided to step on one and carried where his (long drive) ended up. He was surprised and asked "where'd that come from" to which I said "it comes from not giving a s*** weather I hit a fairway or not, just like yours the rest of the day."

Best drive into a green was 315 on a par 4 to within 6-8 feet. Sank the putt and made eagle. Even better, it was during our golf league, so that one drive was worth a couple hundred bucks!

354 is the longest I can ever remember hitting. It hit cart path at least twice.

Longest/best I remember was in a college tournament, Bertha warbird driver and Titleist professional ball. 420 yards, dogleg left par 5 with a wind blowing right down the alley. Hit a nice high draw that rode the wind right down the alley. Hit the ground at the perfect angle and ride down a slope into the dogleg. Hit a sand wedge past the hole and scraped in a birdie. 530 yard hole and had 110 in, shape of the shot just fit the hole perfectly, perfect storm of sorts with the wind blowing right down the dogleg.

You don't have to be a perfectly trained athlete to hit one absurdly long drive. We are talking about once after all, not regularly. And some of us are/were very good players that have collected hardware in events that would make others stain their shorts.

Was a few years back on my home course in July when the fairways were dried out and hard, 3100 ft above sea level, stiff North wind helped, hit from T-box to green on a short 327 yd Par 4, had 15 ft putt for eagle.

Cialis and Viagra should re visit their marketing strategy and targeted demographics as this thread clearly demonstrates how vibrant and full of testosterone the average golfer is. Just look at how much meat everybody here is packing? No short knockers in the bunch. I think the ED drug pushers have obviously missed their mark and should visit something less rugged with their advertising onslaught; rugby or ice hockey for example.

I realize it's not exactly the point of the thread... but, unless I've skimmed over any, I expected at least a couple of these posts to include follow-up anecdotes about how their unprecedented/unexpectedly longest drives resulted in incurring some unjustifiably severe wrath, a bout of pathetically insecure male indignation, or conversely, beaning a guy playing in the group ahead.

I mean, you never expected to hit one that long, so there's gotta be a few. I'm envious if you long guys are all lucky enough to play on empty courses and/or ones full of well-mannered, savvy golfers...Or maybe the act of someone from the group ahead returning your longest drive ever right back at you has faded into obsolescence.

Bastards.

Played a round in Bermuda when a hurricane was literally hours away. Only (stupid) person on the course. The good...I hit a drive well over 400 yards on a par 5 as it was straight downwind with 60+ MPH winds. The bad...on a 160 yard par 3 I hit driver...and didn't come remotely close to making the green. Straight into the teeth of the wind.

I LOVE Bermuda. What course?

Sorry for the wicked slow response...it was Tucker's Point.

I get a chuckle out of all the posts questioning the legitimacy of so many of these numbers. . An occasional 300 really isn't that big of a deal any more, especially under favorable conditions. The equipment makes so much difference. When our new nine holes opened approximately 15 years ago, the first hole has a fairway bunker on the inside edge of a slight dogleg. I can remember from the men's tees if you didn't have a good helping breeze you just didn't challenge this bunker, you played around it. Now from those tees, that bunker isn't even a factor, I don't even think about as being in play. Just take the ball right over it.

I play with two guys who are trackman verified at 290 carry. One of them is almost 50 years old. One of my regular playing partners is 57 he's regularly pushing it close to or over that 300 mark.

As a caveat, we do play at 3'700" of elevation so I feel that has to be mentioned. But there really are a lot of people out there now that can move it out there.
