Which Accessories Identify You As A Hacker?

I think having dirty wedges is a pretty solid giveaway as it makes it seem like you're not on the greens much or that you don't clean your clubs enough. Obviously there are the counter examples of those driver-wedge guys but when I see you hit a 40 yard push slice off the first tee and all your wedges are sandy my first thought isn't usually "jeez, how many under is this guy going"

None. I don't understand the philosophy that certain accessories make someone a hack. I

am too worried about my own poor golf game than what accessories someone wants to use. As long as they are playing the game and enjoying it, I don't care what other people use.

 

That said, I do notice shoes...but that is only because I'm a sneakerhead. I don't judge anybody by their sneakers and/or shoes. Finally, i will ask people what kind of clubs they are playing. That is only so I can ask their opinion ("How do you like them?" is my standard follow-up, regardless of their response).

My father in law is a hacker, self admitted. For some reason, he always carry's at least 2 drivers, 2 putters and multiple fairway woods. Has to have at least 18- 20 clubs in his 1980's bag. Throw in the 6-pack on Natty light in the side pocket and the bag weighs a ton. We always have a blast though.

I have found a few more hacker accessories for all of us to enjoy. The first one is the marvelous putter clip, which you set on your bag so you can insert the club downward on the side of the bag. Just put the damn putter in the bag well!

I don't have one of those but I do use-at times-one of the old fashioned plastic tubes. Good reason though...putter is just under 34" so the edges of the bag knock the putter cover ** off. So I stuffed the bottom end of the tube so the putter sticks just far enough above the edge of the bag.

 

** You know just remembering....25 years ago the idea of a putter cover would have been on this list. :)

 

PS to a post a bit above...Rory, Tiger and quite a few others did quite well with Nike equipment.

I have an ice chest, that I get picked on about all the time. But they don't mind putting their beer in it. I get made fun of for the sand bottles, and club cleaner but they use them.

I will admit that the 4 extra towels are a bit of overkill... but hey. gotta keep up the persona....

 

I don't play in jeans.... I just can't stand it. But, I don't care if others do. Same for cargo shorts, or cargo pants.

The last competition I played ~3 weeks ago, I had 3 dozen balls in the bag and another 2 dozen in the truck (just in case). I played the same ball from start to finish.

 

I don't think I've lost more than 3-4 balls in a single round in the past 2-3 years, and that was when I was trying all kinds of crazy shots and playing two balls at a time. But I'm paranoid that I'll run out during a round.

If this makes you a hacker, add me to the list. Same thing, no more than 2-4 balls on an off day and I still carry like 15-20 in my bag. Just paranoid of not having enough. I know if I lost 12 balls before I finished 18 holes I may as well not even finish.

What is it about wanting to keep your irons looking nice and not have them appear like they went through a train wreck that makes anyone think you are a hack? I just never get that. IMHO it's way better to see covers on the irons than have them clanking around like Marley's ghost.

I think I'd rather be judged a hacker than to be some judgemental elitist. As long as someone is respectful, it doesn't matter to me what they can shoot. I've always had a ball retriever. I usually try to keep 2 scores, a golf score and a score of how many balls I'm ahead on the day

Heard that. I usually leave the course with a couple more balls I came with. Sadly I've got a 5 gallon bucket full of crappy golf balls. Straight up hoarder. Terrible lol

Hey. I wear all Nike gear. Nike pants, shirts, shoes, clubs, bag and even towel. LOL. But even when I'm not on the golf course, I'm wearing most Nike. I'm just a stickler when it comes to matching. I'm the same way when it comes to most anything. My mountain bikes are either all shimano or all sram. I don't mix or match. One year, my gf bought me a red Nike Polo which I haven't worn once. That maybe a tad too Tiger wannabe-ish.
