Last summer I had a nitrogen treatment on both ears for pre-cancerous cells. The ointment applied after made my ears look similar to his face as the body shed the dead cells. Perhaps he had the same treatment on his face but obviously this is just a guess.

Our HR person at work had this treatment as well I think. That was the first thing i though of when i read the 1st post.

During his post round interview just now, he had red bloody scratches on his cheekbones like he got attacked by a cat or something. Looks really bad. Anyone heard for sure what it is?

Rosacea is a very common skin condition that can be triggered by any number of factors, including exposure to sunlight, stress, or even reaction to medicines such as today's allergy-relief remedies. Not saying that is what it is, but I deal with it and have sworn off Advil Cold and Sinus and have had fewer episodes.

 

I would say the upcoming Masters would qualify as a stressful event.

He definitely had some sort of dermatology treatment. I've had the nitrogen freezing and the electric burn needle treatments which produce the same types of marks. Surprised he wasn't wearing a heavy coat of zinc oxide sunscreen today (prob didnt want white crap all over his face).

I would guess that it is caused by a side effect to a medication. I take some for high blood pressure that cause sensitivity to sunlight.

 

I also have a prescription for Carac (fluorouracil) a cream used by adults to treat skin conditions on the face and front part of the scalp called solar keratosis or actinic keratosis. Older folks that spent a lot of time in the sun are susceptible to keratosis (sun spots), and sometimes they lead to skin cancer. Common side effects of Carac Cream include skin redness, irritation,dryness, scaling or peeling (exfoliation), burning, rash, pain, swelling, and other local reactions. The stuff can make you look pretty beat up for a few weeks, believe me.

 

Those would be my guesses.
