Crossfield's D3 numbers: 917 vs 915

He gained one yard carry with the 917 in a lighter 8g weight from the standard 12g.

Interesting to note his average spin was 400rpm down in 917 with the 8g weight.

I'm just showing the data that's available.

I don't see why that's unfair at all. Same launch monitor and a guy whose numbers are as consistent as anyone.

Probably just due to his strike pattern being higher on the face with the 8g weight as opposed to the 12g weight. I'm not saying the 4g difference makes for the lower spin directly ,and don't buy in to what he says about that because it's a lighter weight it moves the cg forward.....it's 4g for goodness sake. It's simply his higher on the face strike pattern with the lower weight causing the lower spin imo.

In Crossfield's reviews, when he is testing out new drivers, he usually comments that he hits the new driver he is testing about the same distance as the older model. I'm really not surprised at all that he would hit the 917 about the same distance as the 915.

So Shiels is saying there is a separate draw and fade weight? Don't you just flip it over? Fade to toe draw to heel

Saw these at a private launch - the Drivers look awesome. Not so sure about the woods, but that's just me not liking the head shape. They had some funky loft options - 14 and 16.5 degrees. We got kicked out before we could hit one though!

There's no 14

I'm going mad

+1 on the 915 D4.

D4 will be coming in 917 but apparently six months behind the main release

Any word on that Fuji Pro TS? Is it a made for? I have the Pro TS in my driver now and it's black and white and it's a 73x and the one listed on the Titleist website for the 917's is white and navy and is a 74. Just wondering if it's the same shaft or something slightly different.

I love the Pro TS 73x I have now.

I don't believe the 917 adaptor is any different than the 915. They both appear to be the same surfeit adaptor, so using your current shaft shouldn't be a problem if you plan on picking up a 917.

It did happen in the the D2 video as well though.

This caught me by surprise as well. I always heard that changing the weight on a 915 or 913 to get the right swing weight had no effect on launch. Just like lead tape

Same here.

I wonder if the Surefit CG location/housing (long tube inside the head) vs. the home plate shaped weight on the sole has something to do with it? Honestly im taking just a complete guess on why.

Correct, I know I can use my shaft from my 915 but I was just curious if it was the exact same shaft with different graphics or something slightly different than the aftermarket version. I'd obviously want to hit it before I order anything but was just curious more than anything.

Doing my fitting on Friday, if I'm honest I don't expect to make a switch this year. My current gamer is by far the most consistent and favourite driver that I've bagged in a long time and I really can't see the 917 being enough to knock it out of the bag. Will post my results and some trackman numbers this weekend.

Is 917 hybrid to follow?

Anyone know..

Hybrids should now come out with the iron releases. So the next one would probably be 818h after the 816h.

the video reviews throw me off because the D2 and D3 seemed to perform in a very similar fashion. I would expect the D3 to have a lower spin.

Review from my buddy on Web at TPI was that the D3 was too low in spin and had to go to the D2. Optimal fit club from his fitting was still shorter than the M1 and the new Callaway club coming out.

I just finished up my fitting for the 917's and the new Speeder Pro TS 74 is not the same profile as the Pro TS 73. I don't think it's a "made for" shaft but just not the same. I ended up with the new LTD White Diamana being optimal in my fitting. I was happy with the new stuff, 917's were consistently longer and lower spinning than the 915 with better ball speed. Nothing earth shattering but enough for me to make the switch. The sound is miles better!!

I'm probably going to get killed for this but........

I like Crossfield but his numbers are always pretty much useless to me. Don't get me wrong he could probably beat me any day of the week, but I'm guessing MANY guys on Wrx hit it higher and farther than him. And that's exactly where the new drivers can help you. With his swing, tempo, clubhead speed......he's pretty much going to hit everything the same (within a 2-4% margin of error). I'd be much more interested in seeing someone with 115 clubhead speed test all of these drivers.
