Saw some new Callaway Woods last night (The Epic Thread)

Very shocked, after the 'ef'ing' granddaddy victory I was expecting so much more. Need to track down the tour van silk screened in green and find out more.

 

I found it interesting that most of the guys that saw gains over there were already in Cally drivers. The one person with a fitted M1 said other than a bit of heel relief the M1 and Epic were about equal.

 

I'm looking forward to hearing some shootout numbers between some M1/M2 users. I'm at a point where I for once don't know that I actually want to replace my driver in the off-season. That would be a first since joining here! I almost want to see some reassurance that I am fine with what I have.

Anyone know the MOI numbers on the EPIC line? How far over 5000 it is?

 

Saw somewhere that it was 8500 for epic SZ and 8000 for regular epic. Does not make sense to me that the SZ is higher MOI. Also, Dr Hocknell said something about the MOI being measured on 2 Axis.

 

I remember seeing that too but I don't think that can be right. The thought the highest recorded MOI was the Nike Sumo 2 which was 5900. That must be calculated a different way.

 

Yes, that quoted figure is the summation of the MOI readings from both the horizontal and vertical axis around the CG of the head I believe.

 

So in reality it probably is a lower MOI then the Ping G line

 

I would be interested to see a comparison.

 

For me the results are more consistent than Ping G, but I think that is a combination of the Jailbreak and the high MOI design.

Supposedly their is a 440 tour model but tour only.

Well it looks like my 2017 will be EPIC, officially making the move to Callaway

 

Tested the Chromesoft X today and I was disappointed. Could've been the weather but I lost some distance off the driver. Also noticed that they get dinged up from just a good wedge and I hit one onto a bunker and it got gashed from sand??? Seemed really odd, definitely wasn't a fan

Obviously depends on how you hit a ball, but I SPIN everything pretty well, not overly, just good spin, but can't damage a CSX or CS with a club of any kind. Playing MD3's right now. I have to hit a tree or path to leave a mark on them. Whereas, Titleist, BStone get gouged on a good wedge hit.

 

I would give them a few rounds in normal weather.

I have played the Tour Preferred X for the last 2 years and besides the fantastic performance I have always been impressed with their durability. Bridgestones are the worst, you can sneeze on those things and they get these weird scuffs. Similar marks were on the CSX after 2 holes and no trees or cart paths. We shall see.

More Epic Kool-Aid. The whole 8000 MOI thing is just evidence of this. Typical of the golf industry, throw out a spec to make mine 'the best' when in fact, its just misinformation and not comparative to anything else.

Also, heard the jailbreaks can be removed and become shanks for arguments on the course....

 

But really, if there is nothing to compare it to then how do we know it is not true?
