Saw some new Callaway Woods last night (The Epic Thread)

Very shocked, after the 'ef'ing' granddaddy victory I was expecting so much more. Need to track down the tour van silk screened in green and find out more.

I found it interesting that most of the guys that saw gains over there were already in Cally drivers. The one person with a fitted M1 said other than a bit of heel relief the M1 and Epic were about equal.

I see the sycophants did not appreciate you bringing another point of view into the discussion, no grits bar for you.

What can I say I'm not a Cally homer like the masses over therrrrr

My pedestrian 112 SS M2 vs Epic Subzero trackman comparison

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1074561-dtd-10417-titleist-mb-12s-bettinardi-abtp-proto-m2-df-3w/#entry14763832

I am 100% not a ELY homer by any means, but going to put the investment of a test shaft into the head to try it.

Cally - in the past your Tolerances have been up to +1.5* , what are my odds if I order this I am going to get a 10.5 head with 9.0 Printed on the hosel ???

Thanks for posting this. Definitely the comparison I'm most interested in. I really like my M2. Ball speed seemed really similar. Was the smash factor close between the two? I'm really interested in the Epic, but I enjoyed the M2 more than any other driver I've had in the last 5+ years.

If you like your M2 that much, especially over past 5+ years DONT EVEN BOTHER HITTING EPIC!

I wish I had a driver I liked that much. Come see my garage!

:) I know, I know. I got some gift cards over Christmas, some money in paypal, and some fantasy football winnings. I may shift my focus to finding another shaft to test out for my M2, and maybe a hybrid or something with the gift cards. If there wasn't a bunch of snow on the ground, this wouldn't be an issue. Cabin fever has set in in a big way for me.

I hit the Epic again today along with the Sub Zero, 2017 TM M1 440, M1 460 and M2. The Epic again out performed everything else. The new M2 performed exactly the same as my 2016 M2. The 460 M1 was similar though obviously much more adjustable. The 440 M1 I really liked it had a little higher ball speed than the M2 or 460, closer to the Epic but the Epic really out shined it on mishits. Much straighter and more ball speed. Epic will be in my bag in 2017.

Yes I liked the regular Epic over the SZ all 3 times I hit them. It goes straighter for me and just as long /longer plus I think the shape is much better. I do hit up on the ball 4/5* and my spin rates with it are in the very low 2000s.

So who all has done comparison videos? I'm really hoping for 2017 Taylormade vs Epic and SZ from a lot of people. I like seeing both Taylormade fans and Callaway fans do them. Get a good mix to balance each other out.

Maybe it's too much, but I'm also hoping to see 2017 m1/M2 comparisons, 2016 m1/m2 vs 2017 m1/m2 comparisons, epic vs epic SZ, epic/epic SZ vs 2017 m1/M2, and Epic/epic SZ vs 2017 M1/M2 vs Ping G /G LS.

Haha. Get a Veylix or Agera and try in M2. You can always transfer shaft into any driver.

I'm loving the Crossfield comparison videos. Just saw the SLDR vs 2017 M1 video. Almost like he's going out of his way you keep the new club hype in check.

Haven't seen any Epic vs. older model videos yet.

Got fitted for my Epic today. Indoor with a Trackman. We were doing a lot during the hour I had booked, so I didn't get to take many pics along the way. This is a bit of an abbreviated review, so feel free to ask any questions.

My gamer is a TM R15 10' with an Alidla Tour Green 65x. My swing has changed a bit since I got fit for that and Trackman was showing I was spinning it too much. 2800-3000 rpm's and ball speed in the middle 150's. My swing speed was about 105-106 mph. Carrying in the 250's. Ok but not great.

Moved to the regular Epic 9' (non-Sub Zero) and tried out an assortment of 65g and 75g shafts. Much better overall numbers but still a bit spinny no matter what shaft we used. Really impressed with the driver overall, though.

So we switched to the Sub Zero 9' (which I was nervous about not being forgiving enough). My fears were completely unfounded. Got it fairly dialed in with the 75g Aldila Max in stiff flex, and then my pro pulled out his Epic with a HZRDUS Black 75x and fitted it to the Sub Zero I was testing. Boom. That combo just absolutely clicked for me. Nice gentle draws with perfect (for me) numbers. So my pro is finalizing the pricing with his Callaway rep, and I'll have it on order that first day.

My summation of numbers was:

107 avg swing speed

Ball speed sticking right around 160-162 (Smash Factor 1.49-1.51)

Carry yardages consistently into the 270's, with 2 I was able to get to roll out to 300

I absolutely fell in love with that HZRDUS Black. I've never swung a more smooth and perfectly-feeling shaft. Same with the Sub Zero head. Amazingly consistent and easy to hit (had the heavy weight in the back). It does have a solid feel to it. I was worried it would feel too harsh, but that wasn't the case. I even liked the slightly muted sound.

can the EPIC/SZ be adjusted for lie angle?

They have neutral, draw, standard loft, +1* loft, +2*loft, -1*loft

The draw setting basically makes the driver more upright. How much? Who knows, I don't think anyone has ever gotten a straight answer. There is no setting that flattens the lie, which is what I'd need. I believe if you go with the opposite hand adapter (using a left hand adapter if you are righty) it will do the opposite of the stated settings, so that could flatten the lie.

I believed this to be the case but it isn't so.

The lefty adaptor will not affect lie angle apart from the D setting being more upright.

The loft settings however do apply, so the +2 actually becomes -2 loft.

The lie angle for the Epics is apparently 56.5*...someone had called Cally CS to find out ( http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1425204-callaway-gbb-epic-and-epic-sub-zero-drivers-and-fairways/ page 8).
