Just placed my order with Discount Dan's (great guys, order from them!). Ordered a 10.5 SZ with the HZRDUS T800 65 and the 15 degree SZ 3 wood with the Fujikura Pro Green 72. I've got three or four shafts with Callaway tips I can put in either if I don't care for how they work out. Last years stock Fuji in the XR16 worked perfect for me and I've also got a Rogue silver and an AD-DI 7.

 

I requested 7 or 8 gram weights to replace the 2 and 3 gram weights that come in the driver and 3 wood. We'll see if Callaway does it, if not I'll use some lead tape. I did have some exchange with Callaway on whether I should go with the standard or SZ, decided on SZ since I can get in the head easier and give it the cottonball treatment.

 

Only fitting options for me locally were Dick's (worthless) so I bit the bullet and reading online reviews, youtube reviews, and in talking to NaydelmanCG in their Community I pulled the trigger.

 

DDs is the best and the only place I buy clubs from.

They are both fairly comparable in that regard. The SZ is very forgiving for what it is and had a tighter dispersion for me because I'm a high spinner. Tai had different results because he already spins low. Get fit!!

Good to hear. No fitting here, just buy OTR and then work from there. Epic SZ Speeder 665 Evo II TS 10.5. That sounds about right for me.

Random question....is Callaway not allowed to reference Boeing anymore? I noticed they've gone out of their way to not call them out specifically, as they did with the XR16.

Just hit the Epic SZ with the Rouge Max 75x vs my 9.5 917 D3 w/ Tensei Orange V2, which I also hit for the fist time today.

 

Not a huge sample size, but consistently saw higher ball speeds with the Titleist. Go figure.

 

That could be the Tensei Orange V2 shaft giving you those results. All the posts say it's is giving people 5-7 mph higher ball speeds.

Ohhhh man I forgot all about the Diabloww. I bought into the hype on that one.

From what I can recall Pro V1 was the code name when Titleist was testing it in the late 90s.

 

I'm pretty sure they had iterations called Pro V2 etc

 

I agree, it wasn't really well received originally but who knows in 10 years time Epic might be looked upon as as much or perhaps an even bigger icon in the industry as Pro V1.

I wish they would change the name each time they change the ball. I can't remember what series of dots and dashes are on the newest version.

I tried the Epic on course yesterday. The sound is kinda weird, and not as pleasing as my Alpha which I've been playing since it came out. But the club performed very well. The first thing I noticed was the ball really jumps off the face and was well past the "window" where I expected to see it when I looked up after the strike. My drives also were ending up in places where I'd expect to see them in the summer, and my home course is very wet and not giving much roll right now. I'm very curious to see how it performs on trackman.

Yeah from that video the drivers seem identical on centered strikes. The epic seemed to have a much tighter grouping in the on course test though. Seems to be more forgiving than m1 based solely on that video

If Rory wins with one starting off the year, these will fly off the rack. Golf clubs are very personal. What works for me, might not work for you and vice versa. My buddies and I play completely different types of clubs and we are similar handicaps and age.

What reviews? For almost all reviews a 2mph average increase, shaft for shaft....

 

It was 9 yards longer than my 917 Rogue Max, same shaft loft and length.....FS validated....

Noticed Patrick Reed still using 816 DBD at Kapalua. I read somewhere that Callaway was fitting him for the Epic a few weeks ago. He must have been killing that DBD like Zak in the head-to-head test! :dntknw:

These same guys do an impartial head to head review of the GBB 2016 and GBB epic with a dude they call Anonymous Big Hitter (ABH). He wears a cloth over his face (and spandex, haha), lol, so you can't see him. Pretty funny.

 

Anyhow, this guy gets better numbers from his GBB 2016, better overall distance and higher ball speed. I found it interesting, given the hype. He did look like he hit the epic straighter, though. I found it pretty interesting.
