I am thinking of switching from my steelfiber 110 cw to modus 3 105s. Has anyone made the switch before?

I can only compare limited on this but I do have a CW110 X PW and have hit the Tour105 X extensively. The CW to me has a heavy muted snap/thud feeling while the 105 is a lighter crisper bend/woosh feeling. Both filter out vibration fairly well. IMO the tour105 will just feel lighter and crisper. I had a tendency to hit the CW short and right. I have a tendency to hit the Tour105 long and left. Smooth swings with Tour105 produce the best feel and flight. CW I had to go a bit more at it and it generated a ton more spin because of it. Tour105 for me, is lower spinning.

Im curious why?

Because launch? Weight?

I have SF i110CW Stiff and these are low flight shafts. I’m replacing them with 95cw because of weight and because 110 S feel like X to me. I can’t bend them.

I changed from the 110s sf to 105 s modus, great change for me, thought my ball flight was too low with the steel fibers, modus 105 give me a mid to high ball flight

I just ordered some Srixon Z765s with Modus 105stiff. Coming from SF110's and hoping to see the same change in flight.

Did a green grass demo last week and it look to me like that's what I will get. Trackman #'s seem to bear thad out as well. 7 iron apex was 81ft with the SF and 87-88 with the modus 105. Distances were a little better with the Modus as well by 3-4 yards carry. Spin rates were more consistent with the Nippons as well, probably owing to the fact that the SF's are just too stout for me. Slightly less efficient swings with the SF had much less spin, even with Trackman showing decent smash factor.

Stoked and anxious to get them next week!

I'm still really digging the Modus 105x. Great feel and I have picked up a couple of yards with these as compared to the C-Tapers I previously played.

I have been experiencing pain in the ulnar side of my lead wrist four about 2 years now. I have also been using heavy steel shafts. I was curious if anyone else with wrist pain has switched to 105X flex and experienced any relief in wrist pain?

Yes.

thinking of new irons as I'm playing Mizuno JPX919 Hot Metal and want something with a smaller head. Was fitted into the these with 105 S shafts but was wondering if there is anything similar in profile on the market now in 2021?

As for KBS I believe the KBA Tour 95, Tour 110, or CTaper 110 Lite may be close.

I would add to that KBS family, the Tour 105, which is pretty comparable to the Modus 105 IMO.  I was previously fit for the Modus 105 S, and frankly prefer the KBS Tour 105 S.  There are other shafts in that weight range to consider with differing characteristics, like the DG 105.  All good shafts though.  Sounds like you may need a new fitting anyway.

Had the nippon 105 installed into new Callaway forged driving iron - 105x hardstepped tipped 3/4 of an inch. Very interesting setup and I really like the shaft.

Considering same setup in zx7 irons I'm ordering, initially was going to be nippon 125x hardstepped.

In the setup I have the nippon flies mid and excellent control, really impressive.  I think it plays soft to flex by about 1/3 especially if you come from a stiffer tip shift.

BTW I currently play nippon super peening blu 130x hardstepped which I really love, just can't find them anywhere and getting older so Considering...

Old thread but curious if I should order modus 105 in stiff or x. I have played modus 120x before and modus 115 stiff. Modus 120 stiff was a bit too whippy for me. Knowing this, do you think modus 105 stiff or x would be my best guess?

Good question. The CPM profiles for the different weights of Modus 3 are slightly different as well. I would argue that the 105 play a little stiffer to flex than other weights in the Modus 3 line.

YMMV. The only way to truly tell is to get the opportunity to try both flexes and see what you like.

But, from my experience, I play S300 in TTDG, but the Modus 3 105R works great on the course for me.

X would be the best guess if the 120 stiff was too whippy.

I have the 105x, up from the 105s which had too much load causing excess spin when I was swinging my strongest. With the 105x my lie angle was off which caused me to hate the shafts, now that they are fixed I’m relearning the clubs and having them do what they are supposed to.

Another long hitting in my group has the 120s. The 120s had a lot more head whip and feel from a practice swing I took with his. He said mine felt very stout despite the lower weight. If you’re looking for a more tight shaft the 105x is the move.

The 120s made me feel like I was releasing the club head vs my 105x causes a dragging sensation. With the old 105s I would drag it, with a slight release into the ball, well more than the 105x.

Were the 120s you tested stiff or x stiff?

Notice the 120s has the same cpm as 105r! So both 105s and x will be stiffer. I can play both sx but the x is a bit too stout for me. It does feel like a s300 in many ways. 115g I think.

I'd be careful with statements like that.  Unfortunately, butt frequency is not an accurate representation of stiffness feel or loading.

Despite that, personal experiences are certainly appreciated - although not necessarily transferable to different individuals and different swings.

Confusing as to why the 105x isn’t on this chart …
