Red Spider Tour - WTF!!! What a piece of crap

chair

Recommended Posts

So on a whim I bought a red spider - I owned one of the original spiders and liked it and love the red colour so I bought one without trying it.

Got it today - holy cow its garbage - felt like crap and ball went nowhere.... no Feel and you have to hammer it due to the soft insert. I think Ill stick to my Newport 2.

And what's with the crappy thin cheap grip??

Rant over.

Love mine. The one with the line and double bend shaft. I cut it to 33 and replaced the grip. Thing is money. Came from a Scotty for 15 years

I'm trying very hard not to give a typical wrx answer here but it's inevitable.

I don't like them either and agree with most of what you're saying. On the other hand, this putters appears to have transformed people's putting on an amateur and professional level.

I putt with the PING Anser TR 1966. It's golden/bronze in colour, has a sound slot and has no sight line. I'm sure a lot of people would hate the putter that works so well for me.

At the end of the day, it's different strokes for different folks.

If you're really feeling the urge to get one, they may not be as expensive as you think. I got a brand new one from my PING retailer 2 weeks ago. It worked out cheaper than the Sigma G putters.

Yes. It's just terrible.

And that's why it's the number 1 ranked model of putter used on the PGA tour. It's just a terrible nasty POS and the best players in the world that can use anything they want keep choosing it.

Come on. Think before you post.

If you think the same clubs we buy at big box stores is the same that they are using on your, specifically DJ and JD, are using on tour then your delusional. Same goes for balls. There is how many different versions of the Prov1 on tour? Dozens!

Sergio's spider, as well at the others (DJ, JD, Rahm)are the same as the model we are buying, just look at the photos... The myth of "every club the pros play is different than ours" gets frustrating. Yes they often have access to "tour issue" things, and we see them on here but these spider putters are not one of them.

Sergio's- same as off the rack right now

Rahm - older sole plate, same model

DJ - older sole plate, same model

JD - older sole plate, red Model from the stores, different from his major winning hand welded, hand-made black model that was sold with exclusivity from the vault, the neck is different looking from these new models, on account of the non-manufactured process

Different model on tour....similar bends, but not the same....insert specifically .....OTR with the Red model and sight line feels dead and isn't pure at all.

I have no opinion on them because I have not tried one. I putt with a rusty banged up lead taped Scotty Santa Fe with a stock Ping Man grip on it. It has no sight line either. I know a lot of people hate my putter because it takes their money! Like someone else said it is subjective and there are thousands of different putters out there. Like you so well stated there are different strokes for different folks

I have the black, but painted white. I putt incredibly well with it on fast greens......on slower greens not near as good. Haven't 100% committed to it, but it's in the bag for at least the next round

I think my black scotty Newport 2 notchback would jump out the bag and beat me to death if I ever touched another putter again...

I know that rusty SOB one of mine would and I might get blood poison to boot--- One of the members of our gang stated the other day one needed a tetnus shot to be around that thing
