New SM7's

Leonard Washington

Recommended Posts

I was able to test the new SM7 in chrome today. It was sunny outside and the first that a noticed was, that it glared a lot. Way to much for me.

Decision made: the Vokey Works raw wedge is the only option for me. Fitting is coming up in a couple weeks at a demo day in our club... ;-)

I've used my Tour Chromes on two successive sunny weekends and no issues as to any glaring - guess I'm not that sensitive.

Just ordered the D grind to compare to my sm6 K and TM hi toe wedge. Unfortunately looks like custom D grind 60s are back ordered until mid April.

I have the same 3 that I am comparing.

I have just played 2x9H with my new 50/08F, 54/10S and 58/08M. Can‘t say I‘m having difficulties from wet sand. The 58 is definitely easier to hit on short pitches than my Cleveland CG16 60deg. Love the 54 with the low bounce.

Not yet convinced that the 50 is the right fit. I was fitted into -1/4“ just to make the transition from my Mizunos. But something‘s off. The club has the fitted length but I haven‘t measured swingweight. Either it‘s too short or too light. Can‘t say from the few swings I took. Maybe just a little tipweight. We‘ll see.

Played today with my new SM7’s and can’t away pretty impressed. The 54° was easy to hit and the 58° was exactly what I expected. The chrome didn’t bother me at all. I did have some trouble getting out of wet packed sand but that’s not the wedges problem.

Which grind/bounce did you play?

Same setup in the 54, I think, but the my old 58 was the K grind with 10* of bounce. Might have to go look at them again tho

50-08, 56-10 (S), 60-08 (M) with Pro Modus 125 shaft, Vokey Grips... Tour Chrome.

The 50 is fairly versatile - have opened it up and laid it down a bit having fun; did some wonderful things out of the bunker with the 60 ... still getting comfortable with them.

Very pleased with the jet black finish. Went ahead and got the onyx shafts too

Aside from the stamps I'm pretty sure we will have the exact same wedges.

well 2 rounds of my 4 raw Vokeys in now and compared to SM5 -

54, 60 flight is much lower.

Spin is massively up but I would expect that with new wedges.

50* is a new wedge to me and struggling with yardage gaps but on vacation so no time to practice.

2 rounds in Texas now and starting to rust already.

60 M grind is far better than the old SM5.

Very happy so far just need to get used to 4 wedges compared to 3 previously.

I have had any number of Titleist wedges. I purchased a set of SM5s, changed to the SM6s, did not notice any difference in playability from one to the next. Don't think I will buy the SM7s, when ever they come out. Butt, then again I am like the rest, and will probably succumb.

They've been out, I just got mine yesterday & they are miles ahead of the SM5's. They look so much better at address. Nice small shape to them, very confidence inducing.

The better I get, the better these perform. And they spin the ball - hit hop stop when new with ProV1x.

Any chance you can post some pics of the raw finish, especially if you can get it side by side to the tour chrome? Curious how much difference the finish looks and the difference in potential glare (granted the raw will obviously rust and change in appearance).

Picked up a black 52F last night, but I am debating swapping it for an MD4 raw. Will definitely be taking the black down to raw if I decide to keep it. I would’ve sworn the SM7 would look the same at address as the SM6, but the 7 seems to have a little more of the Mizuno shape which I really like than the very straight leading edge of the SM6 that I remember. Probably just my mind playing tricks and they really are identical.

I've played 4 rounds with the Tour Chrome Set - in the sun in high 80's temp. Glare just was not a concern for play. I just took a new 59D grind outside in the sun - yes, if you hold the head a foot from your face, the area beyond the grooves has serious glare - especially if you twirl the head - lol. But the hitting area has no glare. I play when the head is on the ground - and the toe area is about 6 feet away - not a bother. It's good.

Not that I would mind getting the raw, and if you want to justify the decision to purchase a raw wedge for almost $50 more, I'm with you, go get it. "Oh, Gawd, the glare. Honey, I really need the raw ... it's the sun"... but it's really about I want to play what the pros play OR "I just like the raw" or .... "Oh, Hon, you know my eyes are sensitive..."

If you like the raw, get the raw.

I picked up 3 Jet Blacks yesterday after being fitted.

50.08F

55.10S

58.10S

The looks, feel, and consistent performance are absolutely astonishing. I LOVE the 54.

On a side note. I have a pic of them, but the uploader says the file is too large. iPhone issue?
