RECAPS: The TaylorMade #TwistFaceExperience. 7 GolfWRX members visit The Kingdom for an exclusive M3

Recommended Posts

This sounded like a bad idea right from the start.

That picture is my favorite one from the trip. Well done!

After all of the extra work he had to do for my driver, he said let's take a look at the rest of the bag. I hit most of my clubs and then he started handing me others to try. This is what he liked for me.

Am i reading this correctly? Did Perry recommend you to get the P790s with 2* stronger lofts?!?

Does he want you hitting 200yd 8 irons?

Did TM ever comment on the naming of the M3/M4 and any connection to BMW? Coincidence or was it planned?

I asked that question to 3 different people during our trip, the answer is NO from all 3 of them.

Some of the reason for the M3/M4 naming:

1.) M1/M2 has so much success it'd be a hard name to live up to.

2.) New technologies (Twist Face, Hammer Head.....).

3.) Marketing purpose, by giving it a new name consumers would more likely to give it a try and purchase.

Interesting. Obviously your getting the inside scoop but with the names combined with colors I don't see how it just happened to be so much alike.

M2 is also a BMW and there was an M1 once upon a time, but no one said anything about those names and a link to BMW.

The new logos certainly seem to have been inspired in some way by the BMW M series logo, but it's pretty clear that M3 and M4 were just extensions of the existing family names. I don't think there's anything more to it than that.

they also mentioned that TM is not the first company to use M3, Wilson have a driver named M3 as well. And Aldila actually have to pay Nissan because of Nissan Rogue and Aldila Rogue.

If we weren't waiting on you to decide if you wanted to come get fit, it may not have happened and the world would be a better place. :)

I didn't care for the idea initially. But Perry explained it and then we tested them and the results were good. The stronger lofts brought my flight down and it was easy to control the ball. Easier to take a little off. I'll need to adjust but I'm going to give it a try.

edit...forgot to mention it also took my spin down a bunch. the 6 iron went from close to 7k down to down to high 5, low 6's.

So can anyone confirm there was a difference in face height between the M3 and M4? Could've been my imagination but I think someone eluded to the fact the M4 was deeper faced.

I know the M4 has a larger overall face, and I'm fairly certain it's also a bit deeper top to bottom but I don't know exactly by how much. It is a very confidence inspiring look!

Nah, I feel like he's done too much already Calvin.

That’s a good question. Retail release is 2/15, right? Seems like 1 February at the latest for demos

For the record, after dropping off my clubs, i was told by an chaperone (no names being given ;) ) that i could run back to my room and get a headache cocktail (5 hour energy and an advil). When i returned to the lobby you guys had already peeled out "fast and the furious" style.

Thankfully, unlike Kevin McAllister in Home Alone, i had access to Esther, a 4.9 star uber driver with an impressively clean Toyota Yaris.

Great reviews and photographs! I know the schedules are jam-packed and the whole experience is a whirlwind; you have to make a conscious effort to stop to take pictures/notes and update the thread while not detracting from your experience too much. But you guys did a great job documenting the trip for us following along.

It is/was absolutely more difficult than I thought it would be. The adventure was a non stop experience.

Hey, just wondering...looking at that pic...since Tiger could be an NFL linebacker, do you guys think maybe I could be at least a fullback or something. (and don't reply "or something" ?)

I'm thinking Scott could probably be an NFL tight-end...Oh wait a minute...he already WAS!!! ?

This is something I don't understand -- it seems like all it does is change the number on the bottom of the club so you're hitting your "7 iron" 220 or something. You'll still need the same number of clubs to cover your gaps, and I can understand tweaking lofts to fit that, but 2* strong on an already strong-lofted set of irons seems strange, and as far as you hit it, you'd probably end up needing 5 wedges or something like that. I guess it could have the benefit of screwing with your fellow competitors who try to look at what club you hit, so that could be worth something..

Love reading the reviews. Sounds like a great time. Would love to go to the kingdom!

Have been fitted professionally by Titleist in Carlsbad, Titleist in Calgary, Cool clubs in Scottsdale AZ and a couple others.

The kingdom is #1 on my list to get to though!

Hope all the guys are enjoying the new gear. Can't wait to try the m3/4.

felt the same way going into it.....keep in mind he also changed the shafts, grip, length. he thought my shafts were playing funky due to their length.

Really? Didn't know that. That's awesome. Where did you play Scott?

I "played" in the training rooms in Chicago and SF. My body couldn't handle the extra weight I put on to mix it up with the big boys. Broke down fast, starting with the ankles.

Ha! Wish I could say I got that far. That’s a huge accomplishment either way.

Thought this was designed for strikes on the heel or toe side. These pics look more like the sole and crown strikes! Those couldn't have been WRX'ers!

The TaylorMade #TwistFaceExperience

Pre-trip/Day 1 So I got my pm from Rob last [size=3

course looks absolutely amazing

Aviara Golf Club is beautiful, some of the people from TM who we played with thinks that it's better than Torrey......

I have to give golfers from west coast major prop, coming from TX I've never/rarely played a course with all the elevation change, uneven lies...... even from the fairway the ball is either above or below you never a flat lie, that was def. something I had to adjust. And don't even get me start on green reading, there were some putts that completely fooled me due to mountain on the right or left....
