My exact thought as I read the post.

Then I saw the name baitkiller and was totally confused.

Thankfully I have two handsome sons.

Can you still use the term 'son' in Canada??? ;) Cheers to 'PeopleKind'.

It's sad that they are going to change the greatest national anthem out there.

Eh? Our "instrumental" national anthem is the same as it's always been :)

take off eh.

If they change it, I'm never gonna stand during it, ever again!

You know that poster allegedly had a hidden message in it...

Yeah, it could only be deciphered if there were mushrooms in the room......

I'll just sing the song as I always have and pay no mind to the change.

I actually find this whole discourse regarding Paige, her golfing ability (or lack thereof) and social media somewhat intriguing.

Attractive people receiving undue benefits or attention is not necessarily new for humanity...right? But the method of communication, visibility and more importantly self promotion has changed. From my perspective, the backlash has less to do with her being in SI, but more to do with the self-promotion and rise to fame using golf as backdrop without having the substance (some people's opinion) to support it. It's almost how some people feel when someone boasts about their accomplishments/skills or brings attention to themselves without really having accomplished anything or providing value.

The other interesting aspect to this discussion is cyber bullying. I always felt social media was like having an instantaneous soap box for people to speak about what's on their mind, what's happened in their day or to express their varying opinions. If you were to have a soap box in public spouting out your thoughts...depending on what you said or how you said it...you could get booed, harassed, attacked or cheered...it's in public, in person and there's obvious consequences. If the crowd turned negative to what you did or said on your soap box, I don't know if it would be viewed as bullying. With social media, people feel enabled and anonymous in expressing their statements without that same fear of recourse. The result is that you have more people willing to express their opinions and more people willing to be brutally negative in their responses.

The speed at which social media has grown and impacted our culture has been somewhat fascinating and I think we're all still trying to figure out how we feel about it.

So she is on a quest to help women and help them be proud of their body, yet she is prettier/sexier than the vast majority of women out there. Do you think the 17 year old golfer feels empowered or inadequate when they look at her revealing Instagram posts?

I'm going to venture she is contributing to more feelings of inadequacy than she is helping. Let me say that she is not the only one. There are others, but hey all that attention makes them feel good about themselves.

Don't you just love modern times. The destruction of morality happens daily. Scary, but then I remember it's going to get worse before it gets better and in the end we win.

Yup...because historians will look back on this age and come to the conclusion that NOTHING good comes from "Social Media". :russian_roulette:

There is a lot of debate as to whether forums are or are not, by any modern understanding of what social media is, social media sites.

Either way, there are distinct differences though... forums predate modern social media sites by many years... and forums generally serve the useful purpose of a meaningful exchange of information. Speaking for myself, most of what I find on what are commonly referred to as social media is not.

This is as bad for the game of golf as when Paulina Gretzky was a cover story for Golf Digest.

yeah, that was a killer, the game is just starting to recover.

While it probably was of no significant impact, it certainly was a shame and did not honor to the sport by deciding to objectify women who golf rather than choosing (pick one) of the legitimate professional women golfers out there.

the funniest part of this whole thing that i have not noticed anyone bring up. is that a female golfer is being put in a swim suit magazine for millions of men to gawk at. all the while the LPGA tour is cracking down on the dress code in an attempt to make the sport more respectable.

the question is which group is off bass? Maybe they are not connected in any way? but i think they are especially with the public remarks and videos posted by Paige after the rulings came out acting as if it affected her in some way.

Sadly when it comes to these sort of things... it seems like not many sports organizations, sites, forums, etc., if any, are immune from applying the double standard when it suits their purposes.

i would think some top people of the LGPA are slightly annoyed by this. I dont think they are part of this double standard and may end up having to back off their stance a bit.

You're giving her way too much credit - she's running a social media enterprise and is doing what she needs to do to bring in money for that enterprise.

If there is any sequential connection to be made, it's purely coincidental.

She also has nothing to do with the LPGA tour and any connection between the two is being made from her side (and occasional tourney invites) to maintain/create some kind of legitimacy around the claims of being a 'pro golfer'.

i feel like on this forum you are correct, but to the random person. i feel that with her PXG commercials, etc she has a larger than you are giving her credit for. She is going into the number one selling magazine issue each year of all time after all...

Paige is a pretty girl, but the whole superficial self-absorbed thing is not my cup of tea. There's something very sexy about humbleness and quiet confidence. She's great to look at, but not my type of gal.

I wouldn't be thrilled about my daughter looking up to Paige as any kind of role model. As a father to a young girl, I have to question the message of "can't make it on talent and skills so hike up that skirt and hope for a sponsor's exemption and endorsement deal." Didn't get the job based on your interview and resume? Show a little cleavage and maybe they'll reconsider.

She loves attention and will do anything to get it. But the second that attention gets negative she gets all bent out of shape about it. If you're going to put yourself out there seeking attention then you have to take the good with the bad.
