Are the pros moving away from fat putter grips?

I checked the strokes gained putting for 2017. It seems that everyone in the top 10 use regular grips on their putters. Are there any great putters out there still using the fat grips? In the golf stores everything seems to have fat grips on them, is it just a generational thing?

I don't think he's top 10 right now but Spieth is always a good putter and uses a larger grip. Personally I'm 30 and a larger putter grip just feels better

My favorite putter is a Ping Anser 2, circa 1987, with the standard Ping grip (replaced every few years).

 

Have tried many other grips, but keep coming back to this one.

I would agree that model is not oversize - just a zero taper design, which one can almost certainly say was popularized by SuperStroke. Look at how many other grip manufacturers have gone in that direction in recent years.

I guess I should have said bigger that traditional putter grips which his is. It's certainly bigger than the grip on Rickie's putter for instance

I think guys have backed off of the jumbo style grip but there are certainly lots of players using non-traditional/non-pistol style grips.

That's pretty standard size. Rickie's I would undersized slim/undersized.

The best putters don't need the thicker grips. However, I don't see many guys rocking more than say a mid slim 2.0 which I wouldn't say is "thick", like a flatso 5.0 or something.

I don’t know about the tour guys but I’m done with bigger putter grips, I’ve tried a bunch of them over the past couple years and couldn’t find “the one” so it’s back to a standard grip for this guy :)

I remember Paul Dunne using a very thick grip (Superstroke 5.0) when he first came onto the scene. I think he still uses a thick grip but maybe not the 5.0. The only PGA player that comes to mind is Phil Mickleson maybe. His grip looks pretty big compared with others

Its an old pic. Jordan has tested the x5 in a few rounds but it has never lasted more than one round

Rickies is a standard size Cameron from the studio stainless models. Nothing undersized about it.

I use the SS Pistol GT Tour 1.0 in my Odyssey and the Pingman (built up a bit) to match the SS 1.0, I did used the original SS (with the screws) and it worked for a while, but never got used to it, so I went back the pistol style grips...

I'm seen more people settle on slightly oversize grips... something along the lines of the tour snsr or ss 1.0.

The only oversize grip I've ever liked is the older Ping PP62: https://www.golfworks.com/ping-pp62-non-pistol-putter-grip/p/PG0034/ It's an oversize pistol and I love it on mallet putters.

 

Right now I use last year's Ping PP60. A little larger than the SS Pistol GTR 2.0 with better feel and shape.
