140 yd 7i with a 100+ mph driver swing ? Something doesn’t seem to add up there unless the 7i they tested had some seriously older weaker loft.

Picked up a sleeve to try this weekend with my +1 hdcp brother. He humors me and tries the various balls I've given him (CSX, Srixon XV, TP5/x) but has never come close to switching from his tried and true ProV1x. Since this one is a Titleist, he may actually entertain switching if it's longer/straighter off the tee. Looking forward to trying them out.

I think your brother will like that ball.

This weekend our greens were firmed up and running fast for the first time this summer (we had an awful winter and spring). So for the first time since last October I was putting AVX to a tough test in term of approach shot holding power.

I had a couple of very well struck PW shots roll out 3-4 feet. With my previous favorites (ProV1s, B330, Chrome Soft) those would be stop where they landed or even spin back a foot or so occasionally. An 8-iron on a Par 3 (tees up) rolled out similarly, a couple feet. My 52 degree wedges were stopping dead or coming back slightly.

So that was maybe a bit of a warning that AVX might not hold well with longer clubs like 6-iron or 7-iron. Did not have any 7-irons that were well struck and landed on the green (not my best ballstriking rounds) so we’ll see what happens as the summer goes on. I love AVX but am prepared if necessary to play a higher spin ball for a couple months in the late summer if I start seeing shots run off back of greens.

You are hitting it so close that 3-4 feet is going to make a huge difference? What about the distance gains you are getting off the driver and irons? I am at least a full club longer with these so i can tolerate the extra little roll out.

No of course not.

I am saying that I noticed a PW rolling out a yard or so which never, ever happens with ProV1x. So I am concerned that perhaps some 7-iron or 8-iron shots might run out quite a bit.

In summer high-spin balls for me stop dead with wedges up through about 8-iron. And even this time of year 7-iron and 6-iron shots, if well struck, stop within a couple yards. I haven’t seen any AVX 7-iron shots with excessive runout yet but it is a potential issue.

My criteria for a ball spinning on iron shots is I want to be able to fly a 7-iron to five yards from the back of a very firm green without worrying about it running over into trouble. Never yet seen a Urethane cover ball fail that test but this time of year virtually ever Surlyn ball has too little spin for that shot to hold.

Serious question. How much of a trajectory difference do you there is in the AVX and say a higher launching ball than say the ProV1x? 1 maybe 2 degrees launch angle max with a driver? It will also become less discernible in in the longer irons and virtually non discernible in the short irons and wedges.

It’s a pretty huge difference. I’m a very high traj high spin player. It makes flighting a wedge so much easier. And off Driver its just flat as can be. This is a titleist version of a Bridgestone b330x that launches lower.

I agree with “flat” versus “low”. To me talking about a low trajectory implies it spends less time in the air and maybe gets on the ground sooner I get the same driver carry distance with AVX as I did with ProV1x or B330. But the peak trajectory is far lower. Which is kind of cool.

I’m going to give these a try against my CS. I love the feel of PV1 around the greens, but the ball was pretty short for me. CS was a nice mix, but I put my old Qstar Tour into play the other day and had the best iron shots I’ve had in a year. I think it was the extra distance allowed me to hit better numbers. It did roll out more, but that didn’t hurt any approach shots. But I hate putting and chipping the QST. If the AVX performs similarly on full shots, but chips like a PV1, I might be interested. CS increasing their price has opened me back up to Titleist balls.

You just went from a 10 HC to scratch in about 2 hours. Congrats

I don’t believe in unicorn balls but I can’t seem to hit this thing bad.. I’m almost like nervous with how crazy the difference in my game is with it.. I keep taking it out of play number 1 I don’t want to lose the AVX’s and number 2 I don’t wanna lose the good feeling lol.

The same thing happened to me a few weeks back, Fired a - 1 front nine at Streamsong Blue, took the AVX out for a Z star and finished the back at +4.

At this point I don’t care if you don’t believe me or tell me otherwise this ball is weird good for me

1 round. Shot my HC with them on rental clubs while out in SF. It was a nice ball. Couldn't really test around the greens though as the set didn't have a SW or LW. Might give them another go.

Once again. It was never implied that I dropped my handicap in half due to just a golf ball. You and a few others made that assumption all on your own. Congrats to you Big E! Talk about something over again on something you made up..
