Stuck on PING s55's

Those of you that have had your S55s bent, did you send to Ping, or have a shop/you do it? I'm thinking of going a degree strong and bending them to black dot from blue.... maybe just the lower irons even... Mine are not beauty queens so I don't know if sending them to Ping is really worth it....

i had mine bent flatter by a local guy. we were both bored in the winter a few years back so i'd hit them, he'd bend them and we'd repeat for each iron so i don't even know how much each one was bent. the end result was them not being beauty queens either, lol. i recently sent a nicer set of iE1s back to Ping and the turnaround was so quick and the work was pretty inexpensive that it is hard not to recommend that route if you can live without the clubs for a week to 10 days.

Funny, i have the modus 120 and want to try the 5.5s....hmmmm

Why the change for you? What about the Modus/55 combo is making you think about switching? I just reshafted my 8i and PW with the 120s so hopefully I can get to the range today to try them out.

I hope you're Mom is doing better very soon. I had a set of S55's, foolishly sold them and got some AP2's....those are gone now too. A used set just to have are going to be in my future. I really loved them, but fell for the Titleist trap.

A little OT, but what are the differences between the S56 and S55?

I had stopped playing before the 55s hit the market, and while I hit the 56s many times, I couldn't perceive enough difference between them and my 57s to justify the price.

Are the 55s that much better than the 56s? Different design, material?

Thanks.

Took my re shafted 8 iron and PW out today, had the PX 5.5 and just dropped in the Modus 120 stiff. Dispersion was really good for me and feel was even better than before. I am going to go ahead and do the whole set once I get the ferrules from Billy Bobs and I am seriously looking forward to it.

Between the 56 and 55, I like the feel and turf interaction better with the 55s. I wasn't a huge fan of the 56s. They weren't terrible, I just think the 55s are that much better. They look identical to me at address but other than that, the 55s are one of my favs.

I'm probably just gonna buy another set, take to my club builder and see if he can make them better than my current ones. Doubtful, but I'm willing to give him a shot.

A question, why they stopped the S line?

They didn't really stop the S series. It was more of just a name change to the Iblade

I just picked up a set of s55's with the DG SL S300's for a good price. Need to adjust loft/lie, but going to get them done through Ping after hitting them off the lie board.

Anyone strengthen the lofts a degree or two? Thinking about lofting them a degree stronger.

What do ya'll think of the 2013 anser forged irons? Found a set of 4-pw for $270 at a used sporting good store. Grooves are in great shape. Has kbs 120 stuff shafts. No rust anywhere. Just some bag wear from rattling around.

I’ve played both as my main set for about 6 years, love both sets. The long irons in S55 are more forgiving off the toe, and launch a bit higher (played both in KBS Tour X). Feel is very subtly different, the S55’s in the longer irons with a slightly livelier feel, softer in mid-short irons, but very similar. S56’s have less bounce I believe, and they play like lower bounce irons, but once again, it’s subtle. Neither iron has too little or too much bounce.

From a performance standpoint, nearly identical (except toe misses in long irons). S55 is worth the upgrade though for having the same beautiful lines but improving feel and long iron playability.

These just didn't sell well for Ping as they were so expensive and so close in performance to the i20's at the time. However, in my opinion these were the best irons Ping ever made, progressive offset and head size, tungsten weighting, forged...they threw a lot of tech at these and they made a great set of irons, I don't think you'd be disappointed with them.

Whatever works.

get PING to do it. Lie angles and loft are often done here in Canada while you wait

Then you are covered if something happens

FWIW - they will only bend the BeCu stuff if you sign a waiver

I was under the impression PING doesn’t work on BeCu anymore?

I agree though, let PING do the work and your irons stay under warranty. It’s cheap to have them do it anyway and they do a great job.

Going on 2 years with mine. I'd been switching once every 2 months or so for years. Liked them with the KBS tour 120. Love them with the KBS Tour V 110!

Have no reason to switch after the shaft swap. I'm super happy when I got bored at the beginning of the year and tried to swap them that I didn't end up making a deal.

I played the S59's for a long while. Finally lost the magic after I stopped playing for a while. Your are lucky that your favorite clubs are so durable. I got stuck on the 690.cb and have 3 sets, all fairly worn. I try to escape but they keep dragging me back. I finally just gave in. I'm sure I'll get bitten by the new club bug again, but for now I'm just going with the old reliable. Maybe a driver....

I keep trying to put my 745s back in the bag but the S55 have been super reliable and if it wasn't for my putting lately, I'd be consistently breaking 80 with these irons. After throwing some Modus 120s in them, the flight is exactly what I was looking for and distances are super consistent. I've been really enjoying these irons.

  • 3 weeks later...

Brought my S55s back out today. Crappy rainy day, but I did something today that I haven't done in weeks - hit a 5 and 6 iron well. The S55s get flagged as a players club, but man, is it so easy to elevate even a 4 iron. I prefer the S55 to the Iblades, too.

Easy to get through turf, *sigh*, I feel dumb for moving away. May have to find another set to hoard away.

Excellent irons. I haven’t even considered new irons since I got my s55s a few ears ago. Only thing that has my interest right now is the i500 since it sounds like a more forgiving version of the s55.
