Titleist's new TS 2 & TS 3 driver - shot @ 2018 US Open

So I'm just listening to the TG2 podcast, and I'm taking a closer look at these...so the TS2 looks like the "gamer" club and the TS3 is the more forgiving one? I find it odd that they'd switch that around.

Obviously I don't want to comment too much before we know for sure, but I'm surprised with this - I've always thought that one reason the ProV has been so success ful is the consistent naming - while Callaway did Rule 35/Hex/SpeedRegime and Taylormade did TP5/Penta/Tour Preferred, Titleist kept a consistent brand. I feel like switching the "2" and "3" moniker around is an off chance, and really seems to be an attempt to fall in-line with the Taylormade naming scheme (with the higher number being the more forgiving model).

In any event, really looking forward to this. Either way, I'm all-in on the TS2, as I don't love the weight bar on the 917 series or the TS3.

May have missed it, but has anybody noticed the jailbreak-ish looking circle on the soles? For noticeable tech, I would say that would represent a pretty large shift.

??? I must not be seeing what you are. Where is the circle you are referring to?

On mobile and can’t add markup, but there is a little circle straight above the “S” on the TS2 just above the metal insert. On the TS3, it looks to be just a fraction forward between the “S” and “3” and below the metal.

Looks like the hot melt port to me...

TS3 is definitely the D3 replacement. Smaller and not as stretched out as per usual.

I hope you're right - I need the forgiveness, but I also want a more basic design.

If a Titleist staffer wins this week with one of these, next week will be pure entertainment on this forum

Blasphemy. No one can win with a Titleist driver. I thought everyone knew that.

I love the look, sound, and feel of Titleist drivers but I always felt their newest releases were always a 1/2 step behind the newest stuff coming out from the OEM’s that focus most of their R&D on metal woods.

Titleist has the best looking drivers in my opinion but all the newer models do not seem that much different than my 910 D3. Id love to get 20 more yards out of something but everything I test is within 3-5 yards of one another.

I agree, I think Titleist makes the best looking driver and I think they feel great. I still use a 913 D2 and found the 915 & 917 to be about the same.

They might not be the longest but for me they are the straightest.

With that said I'll give the new one a go and see if its better.

Is anyone watching Justin Thomas in the press tent?

He just said that the new TS driver he’s playing gives him 2-3 mph more ball speed and a bit MORE spin to help him keep the ball in the air!!

He said it allows him to hit less “Up” on the ball because of the extra spin.

I swear I backed it up on my DVR 3 times to make sure I heard him right. Is he playing the 2 or the 3?.

Wow. 2 years for a new model and it spins more. That seems so weird.

I was listening. He plays the 917 D2 so I assume he will stick with the TS2. Hard to believe he isn't chasing 1,500 RPM's like the majority of the people here. If you saw his Trackman numbers he was at 1,800 with the 917 D2 so I'm sure he could stand to go up a few hundred RPM's.

HE could be achieving that by setting the driver for more loft. In comparable lofts, it might spin less. Who knows?

He has a TS3 in any pics ive seen of him.

Oh boy. If the TS3 spins more than the 917 D2 there’s going to be chaos on this thread.

I had my PayPal account all pumped up and ready to go.....and I LOVE my 917 D3

The Instagram post of him pulling off the head cover was definitely the TS3.

Uh oh. And I think he still is playing that diamana BF shaft in it that he likes, so an “apples to apples” comparison as well.

Now I really don’t understand it.

Could Titleist have possibly made a new “3” model that spins more than the old “2”?? If so they may as well stop making drivers.

Everyone is different and I have a positive AoA and really swing up on it if I'm trying to carry it a long ways but I have zero desire for a club to spin any lower than my 917 D3 did. Low 2k's all day on the two launch monitors that I hit on. Shiels, Crossfield, Ali Taylor etc. all got low 2k's as well.

Sure. I’m with you on that. I have a particular problem. I had a terrible motorcycle accident 4 years ago. VW took me out at an intersection. Totaled my Ducati and my hip.

Shattered my pelvis in 3 places and I lost a lot of muscle mass in my legs and glutes. I also lost my +4 AoA. If I try to hard to elevate Now I just get stuck on my right side and it gets ugly. I can only manage about +1 anymore with my 9.5 set at 10.25* and I play a cut, so spin is now a big issue for me. If the new one is higher I’m not interested.

Damn, quit worrying about spin and just be happy you can still golf.

On a personal level I'm not buying these clubs Nov-Feb. Is Titleist afraid to go head to head with TM and Cally in Spring. :D

I'm pretty sure TM releases a new driver in the Spring, late Spring, early Summer, Summer Solstice, Fall Equinox and pre-Christmas.

This comment is so five years ago. Guess you haven't noticed the new release and pricing policy they've had with their last 3 releases.

Yes. Indeed. There is certainly a “perspective” issue here.

13 screws and 3 titanium plates and a year of physical rehab and I still hurt every day.

Fortunately, at the last instant, I saw her running the stop sign at 40 mph and I managed to hit the brakes. If I hadn’t, her bumper would have cut my leg off at the knee.

The side of her bumper actually ripped the skin off my kneecap. That’s how close it was.

The fact that I can still occasionally flirt with par is a blessing. I try to remember that.

RIP my friend. The Diavel Carbon didn’t survive the incident.

I have to say Titleist has impressed me. If you can't beat them, re-educate the customer by using your tour staff to push propaganda. Absolutely brilliant, I love it. They essentially don't have to worry about high spin heads because that's what "we need". I see you Titleist ;) Talk about 'spin'!

Right? Good thing we at GolfWRX know the truth: if you're hitting over 1700 RPMs, regardless of AoA and swing speed, you're leaving dozens of yards on the table.
