G400 Max...Holy Cow!!!

It is easily the straightest driver I've ever hit, not sure anything else is even close. The sound is fine, it can be a little loud but it isn't remotely obnoxious.

I love the Tour 75 shaft, it isn't overly stiff in my opinion. Really works well with the head.

OK - I need an internet fitting. I know I should get fit in person, but I just haven't had good luck going that route. I can't hit in a store simulator...I never swing like I do in real life...just my own personal hangup thinking I'm going to hit something.

I've had mixed bags with outdoor PING fittings I got fit for a G15 at a demo day and it was fantastic. Guy told me I needed to get one digitally lofted for 10.5* (even though the head would likely be stamped 9*) with the Serrano shaft. Played that thing for 5 years and absolutely loved it.

I got fit at the PING center in PHX. Again, inside swing that was a disaster and got specs completely different. Bought the club and it never worked right.

I bought a 10.5* PING Anser from a playing partner who hated it and sold it cheap. Absolutely loved it. Had the Voodoo shaft PING was putting in them. But went to a demo day when the G came out. The rep had me hit my Anser - which I hit long and straight. He claimed my spin numbers were a bit high and I'd be better in a G LS with the stock shaft. I hit it nothing but short and right. I replaced it with a G30 and G and neither were as good as the Anser.

I am at my wit's end with my current driver. I hit can't get right of a dead straight push with it, even though I turn the rest of my clubs over. I'm filing for a divorce.

Even though I know it's the Indian, my mind is set on the G400 Max. I'll buy it from the PGA Tour Superstore, so I'll get the playability guarantee. I'm debating either

1) 9* with the stock stiff shaft. I think this would be similar to the G15 I had before assuming PING underlofts still. Plus turning the loft up my close the face a hair.

2. 10.5* with the tour 65 shaft. If I go with more loft, I'd go with a slightly lower launching shaft. Plus I like that the Tour 65 comes in a shorter length.

I get pretty good pop with my current 10.5 XR-16 with a nice mid trajectory. It's just fighting a push that turns into 2 score killing OB drives a round.

I've never quite understood the angst surrounding driver sound. Hell, I'd play a driver that made a loud fart sound if it found the fairway 80% of the time.

"Huh? Why yes, I did step on a duck".

I'd generally be inclined to agree with you but I sold my 915 because it actually hurt my ears when I hit it.

Back on topic slightly though. I'm in the market for a new driver and will probably go a G400. What is the face angle like on the Max? The LST seems to sit a touch open which is fine by me. Is the Max the same?

Seems like there isn't a lot of love for the Tour 65

Don't know about that. I love the Tour 65 shaft.

Yeah idk what he's talking about. Everyone loves the tour shaft.

Just put my ad Di in sig into gmax and set it at 46" ... d8 swingweight ... bombs away !!!!

Was going to hot melt but don't want to go heavier

I threw my back out just reading that.

Right, there must be 100 posts in this thread of people playing the Tour 65 shaft. And don't sleep on the Tour 65 regular flex shaft. I play stiff shafts in everything, but the Tour 65 regular works perfectly for me. YMMV of course, and plenty of people love the Tour 65 stiff as well.

Curious what is your swingspeed? I am 98-101 depending on how warmed up I am..... I was thinking of going 44.5 so a tour 65 in reg might work. Problem is no one has the shorter length to test at the shops...

I always forget my swing speed, unfortunately. I have a decent swing-speed, but nothing crazy. If it is of help, my 150y club is a 9 iron, and my drives are generally 230-250y total. But be that as it may, just try to demo the different shafts, including the Tour 65 S and R, to see for yourself. Good luck.

How did you just buy a G400 shaft? The Alta?

There are plenty of Alta CB's available on Ebay with and without the adapter.

E.g. https://www.ebay.com..._from=R40&rt=nc

more like you "ebay'ed" the shaft, thought you meant you bought it from the store.

I bought it from a store who pulled it from a customer's club.

I got a chance to hit the G400 Max at an outdoor range that had a full loaded fitting cart. I hit the 10.5* with the stock Alta, X-torsion and Tour 65 shaft.

Overall it was a VERY good club. It was very easy to hit, wanted to go straight and seem like it had plenty of pop. My natural shot pattern is a draw. My misses are blocks and hooks...but I've been fighting the occasional card killing push slice with my current driver.

The Tour 65 shaft was very smooth. But I did leave it out to the right a bit. The stock shaft was absolute money. Just smooth easy shots down the middle all day that slightly turned over. (in fairness, I made a mild swing adjustment after swapping out the Tour 65 shaft. I hit the X-Torsion last. But I got some odd 'knuckleball' type shots with it. It felt nice, but nowhere near the results of the stock shaft.

I'm assuming the stock shaft they had was standard length. To me it didn't feel noticeably longer than the Tour 65. I wasn't crazy about a 45.75 inch driver, but had no issues hitting it.

My last 3 drivers have been a 9* G15, a 10.5* Anser and a 10.5 XR-16. The 10.5* G400 had a great trajectory. So much so, I don't think I'd tweak it one way or the other. I'm pulling together some clubs to trade in. It'll be in the bag by the weekend.

Pretty interested in how you like the MAX. I’m strongly considering one, but have gone through some serious driver issues the past couple seasons, and have landed in the same spot as you:

1. I played the G15 with xSerrano for three years and loved it.

2. Had a G20 with the Ping Tour that was ok, but not as good as G15.

3. Swapped to a 2017 M1 with XS 125 Rogue... but the awesome distance didn’t make up for my massive misses.

4. Tried to get along with a G LS with the 65x, and didn’t hit it as far as the G15.

5. Found an Anser with a 70x Ahina for $60 this season and hit it almost as far as the M1, but with way better forgiveness.

Now I’m debating whether I stick with my Anser or get a MAX. I do feel like I’ve kind of found a holy grail club with the Anser/Ahina combo, but I keep peeking over at the MAX anyway. SS 107-110, and the Anser is getting me out to 300 with roll quite a bit.

Also - I can’t swing indoors and get any kind of indication on a club I’ve found...

The Anser is sneaky long, no question about it. I've hit some of the longest drives of my life with it. I the mistake of shortening the shaft and it was never the same club. I seriously considered reshafting it.

I went ahead and got the 10.5* max with the stock shaft. Was running late for 9 holes I had scheduled with a buddy yesterday evening. I literally pulled the plastic wrap off of it on the first tee. I hit 6 of 7 fairways. It was an absolute joy to hit. The one I miss was user error, it's a hole you can shortcut by going right and I aimed too far right and hit it dead straight.

Demo’ed the G400 LST and Max yesterday. Both drivers were great but I was shocked how close my numbers were with the two.

Started with the G400 LST in 10 degree with the Kuro Kage 60x and Ping Tour 65x. Both yielded pretty similar numbers with launch around 15 and spin at ~2200 on average. Was carrying about 265 on average with a roll out to about 285 ish.

Then the Ping rep handed me a Max in 9 degree clocked up on loft with the Ping 65x and was consistently getting 16 degree launch with 2250 / 2300 spin and around 265-270 carry. Had a handful roll out past 300 although don’t put much stock in the roll #’s. I was pretty happy with the fact that the numbers were very similar but the Max was notably more forgiving on mis hits and just felt a bit “hotter” overall.

Overall I was very impressed with both but will be ordering a G400 Max. I was also super impressed with the Ping Tour 65x. While not as smooth as the Kuro Kage, it still felt great and was getting better numbers with it. Super impressed by these drivers.

Demoed the Max through global golf and can't believe the difference it made it my driving. I'm coming from a G30 SFT. The first round I played with my buddies after about 5 holes everyone agreed there was no way I could sent it back. I can definitely stripe it and know when I hit a good shot which for me is about a straight 250 but even on shots that feel really bad I get 225 and in the fairway. Literally seems to almost be majic. It's probably the piece of golf gear that has made the biggest difference in my game. I know that sounds like an infomercial but damn I love this thing so far.

I did get the Alta stiff but also have the tour 65 reg from my G30. Despite my 95-100 swing spped the stiff seems to work better for me. The tour seems to be really hooky and left of target for me.

Just hit my new G400 Max 10.5 with the Tour 65 shaft and it was awesome. I demod it against the other brands previously. Best driver combo I have hit to date. Most accurate/forgiving by far.

It was easier to hit than M4 or Rogue. Also noted the Rogue launched lower which could help some people.

Pumped to go play.

Or that everyone on ebay is a slicer....

I hit the G400 LST on Saturday against my M1, and M4 and the Rogue SZ. Just wanted to see if the "new tech" drivers had anything over the trusty M1

The Rogue SZ was the clear winner - at least 25yards longer than the G400 which felt dead to me. And I'm a Ping fan - played the G driver, 3 wood and Crossovers previously.

I was very disappointed with it as I really went with the intention of loving it. Didn't bother trying the Max and won't bother, unless someone tells me is much longer than the LST.

My trusty M1 came in second, didn't like the M4.

In the end though, couldn't justify £430 for the Rogue for just a 10 yard gain and given I'm hitting my M1 well at the moment (touch wood) I'll stick with that. at least I got it out my system...

Why are you saying "new tech" when comparing your m1 to this year's offerings? One of the main reasons nothing could really impress you is because your old driver is only 2 years old lol and packed with "new tech". Carbon crown, sliding weights, adjustability, etc etc.
