In hand photos of the Ping i500 irons (MERGED)

Went back and re hit the i500s. At 94mph 7 iron ss I had a few go 212 yard total distance on trackman. Personally have zero reason to have a 7 go a 5 maybe 4 iron distance.

Feel is subjective; I think they feel fine and look great but even with a high launch and good spin I have no need to hit it that far.

Canceled my order.

Did you hit on course for confirmation? What are you looking at now?

Swoosh. No I didnt; personally didnt need to if i am getting dry ball data like that. It's only going to be worse if I bring wind or moisture into play or be downhill downwind.

I'm going with PXG 0311Ts since I can get an insane deal on them through the hereos program. 4-PW and 3 0311 wedges for $1100.

Edit: also I achieved those distances with range practice balls. A mix of avx, q-star, velocitys etc. I'm assuming that would only increase with Pro V1s or Tour Bs.

I have heroes available also.....your feeling is pxg that much consistent and better than either ping offering? If you'd like , PM with answer!

I was finally able to hit the i500 on grass today and I thought they were really impressive. The distance and flight were perfect for me and they felt just fine for a club of this type. I can't say that I'm crazy about the sound, but it's ok. Overall, there is nothing for me to dislike about the club. I had some anxiety about a few things such as size, feel, ball flight, etc. but none of those things were even an issue. The size is amazing....It's hard to believe they accomplished this in such a small package. Bravo Ping!

After reading the above, I thought I should edit my post-

I also hit several shots in a large indoor/outdoor stall and experienced none of what bunta did. The sound isn't great, but I thought it was better than expected. Once I got the club on the grass, it was fine....no issues. On a few mishits, I did get a pretty good jolt to my hands but that's to be expected. Again, I thought the club was phenomenal and I can't wait to get them into the bag. Was it the range balls he was hitting? I was hitting new Titleist Practice balls off a top quality mat. That's all I can guess. My experience was markedly different than his.

well, at least you werent too fond of the "sound" either so maybe im not alone. im gonna give it a few more tries. i might be over reacting a little too soon. But coming from my i25 irons, its a pretty glaring difference.

I absolutely LOOOOOVE the look of the whole set though. The topline, the blade size (could be smaller) and overall appearance is top notch.

Great....You need to get a set.......Five of us where hitting these yesterday, 1 to six handi cappers and none of us had that experienced , especially the silky part.

You didn't care for them?

Yea, as a matter a fact, I could see comboing a four iron with my i blades, but did not experience anything like popeye......No silky feel for me.

He handed me an i210 right after, same shaft and I did not like it at all.

I'm with wobgon on "lack of silk" part

I've never hit a club that felt like silk but it sure seems very split on which feels better the 210's or I500's.

I know feel is subjective, but how anyone can think the i500 feels better than the i210 is beyond me. The i210 feel is addictive.

I was completely opposite. Didnt like the feel of the i210 st all. Loved the i500.

Those of you choosing i500 over i210, why? Is it strictly the look? Can't pass up on the extra yardage? I can't make up my mind. I LOOOOVE the look of the i500 and it's probably closer to what I've been playing in the z545. I actually like the feel and the sound didn't stand out to me. However, I've been wanting to get to something that I know is a little more dependable and accurate with a softer feel. And while not quite as sexy as the 500, the i210 looks pretty damn good and checks those boxes. My issue is that I launch the ball high and will probably need to power spec the i210 anyway, so why would I give up the extra ball speed that everyone is getting from the i500? 210 would save me a little coin. Would probably go 5-G in 210 and 6-G in 500, so roughly $120 bucks. HELP!!!

Just ordered the i500 3,4 & 5 iron after testing on the course for a week. Lots of wind and elevation where I play and I did not see any silly numbers like a lot of folks here are experiencing. I am going to combo them with the iBlades 6-PW. Loved the i210's but not enough to upgrade my i200's, the 210's look better at address and feel is drastically improved IMO. I'll likely just keep two sets.

I just flat couldn't hit the 210s. Too big of a sole. Steep, high spin player, so in a lot of ways it helps me with some things. I hope. I got em all 3-Pw so they had better work or my builder is gonna hate me until they do.

And they sure are pretty. There isn't an iron that looks better out there right now IMO. Adding a bit of forgiveness over my s55, distance (I'm not getting younger) and still look 'player'. I don't know what else you could need, but I can say they are definitely not for everyone. And as for how much the looks matter? Mizuno makes some pretty stuff, and I've never liked anything I've hit from them.

For me, it's the distance, the sole, the looks at address, the forgiveness, and looks in the bag all in equal measure. As I've said before, these irons check all the boxes for my unique predicament. A blade-like appearance at address is very important to me (lack of offset and slim top line) and a narrow sole without a lot of bounce and/or camber is really important. Distance, at this point is a necessity, but I couldn't live with the tradeoffs before this club came along. A low spin iron (maybe not intentional) is a great thing for me and I actually hit them low to mid with the DG 105 shaft. There are some givebacks, like the sound and feel, but they're not even on the bad side of the line IMO....they're not the greatest, but they're certainly not bad. With all the unique qualities this club has, I'm sort of shocked that anyone could have negative feelings about it. I mean, it's either for you, or it's not. Not everyone is looking for those things but having all those qualities together is amazing. For me, it's an absolute godsend, and the fact that it looks great in a small package is incredible and I don't even know what "forgiveness" means. I've never played a real GI club, so that's just gravy for me. You can't have a Bentley Supersport and also get 50mpg....there's just no free lunch when it comes to engineering.

For me, I hit the 210 better with every shaft we tried and I was about to order a full set, and I was very disappointed. But I had the ping factory fitter doing it. He did not care what I bought as long as I found something that I was happy with. He knew going in whatever I hit the best I was going to order, so there was no pressure. So once we figured out the 210 was the better club for me ( I hit it better in every way). He started tweaking things for ball flight and what not. When he switched to the modus3 shaft, there was such a change in flight he asked me to hold on, and he put a 500 head on the shaft. It was instantly the best of any of the shots I hit. Then we worked out the lie angle and figured out lofts and I can’t wait till they get here. I’m 43 and have a bad back. I still create a lot of clubhead speed. But I don’t want to have to jump on things anymore to get things going. That’s been my game for 6 months with my iBlades. I love them, but if I miss, it’s ugly.

I went with the i500 because it not only was absolutely the best looking club I may have ever seen short of a MP4, but I got great numbers

Just had a buddy get fitted and he bought the I500's. He thought the feel(sound) was just fine. The I500 and I210's are two completely different types of irons. I think a lot of guys here are trying to put them in the same basket. They're supposed to feel different from each other. I've found all thin faced irons be a different breed. I'm going to get the I500's. At my age I'm not looking for feel and consistency. I have that in my S56's. I want a nice looking, compact, low offset iron that goes a long way with lower spin. That's the I500. I can get use to the sound of any iron if the thing performs.

I have i200s and they do everything I need them to. I just wanted to add on a 3 and 4 iron and since the i500 are coming out, I decided to go with that for the extra height on the longer irons. I can see them blending well in a combo set, but I agree. If the 210s feel better, then why not go with them.

Thats pretty much how I looked at it too... I really dont remmember how they felt at this point.. i was using crappy Srixon Super Low compression range balls, so its not like its going to be an accruate representation of my OnCore Elixer or anything comprable.

Bingo!

I'm unfortunately still waiting to hit either the i500s or i210s (injury and medical issues have me out of golf for another few weeks), but it seems to be a pretty simple calculus to figure out which of these irons are for you.

Still have plenty of distance and prefer to work the ball, but need more forgiveness than the iBlade? i210s are the club that Ping made for you.

Need some distance help and prefer to hit the ball straight, with feel being secondary but don't want to play a big shovel? i500s are the club Ping made for you.

I'm now a once a week golfer (due to wife, kid, and job) when healthy who is desperately trying to maintain a mid-single digit handicap despite a body that is not aging well ;).

I don't try to do anything fancy on the golf course anymore, and it literally sounds like the i500s were designed for me ...

I was surprised to hear that my i500s just arrived, much sooner than we had expected. Makes sense since my order was literally the first one on the books but we were told that they'd be shipping on 7/31. I'll pick them up in the morning and have more to post then. I hope that's the same news for everyone who ordered them and have been pacing around waiting like I've been. These clubs will really help me, I think as much as anyone, with my predicament. I haven't been this excited about a golf club in a long time. Even the club's issues are positives for me.

I suppose I could have ordered them with power lofts but I can't justify spending that kind of money unless I see a big difference in performance. Wow, that’s too bad. What kind of balls were you hitting? Indoors? I agree that the feel is not great but I wasn’t that put off by them and there are too many benefits to let that ruin them for me....but you don’t need a club like this like I do, especially since you’re in love with what you’re already playing. Strangely, I had the same first impression with the iBlade. Then I hit them about a year later and was stunned at how much I liked the feel. This troubles me coming from one of the best feeling clubs around (BS Tour B). Luckily, not all of us have that feedback and it’s good that it’s as subjective as it is. What shaft were you using, or did you try them all?

But I don’t want to have to jump on things anymore to get things going. That’s been my game for 6 months with my iBlades. I love them, but if I miss, it’s ugly.

I went with the i500 because it not only was absolutely the best looking club I may have ever seen short of a MP4, but I got great numbers

Gator, did you ever game the Modus before? Also, are you in a stiff or x?

Never even seen a nippon shaft in person before.

I play a px 6.0

The modus was a stiff

Well, it looks like I have to eat some crow. Went and tested the I500's today with the intent to get some.Had my mind made up. Nothing was gonna change my mind. And then I hit them. I was so disappointed in the feel of them I'm totally bummed. Do they go a long way? Yes! Do they look awesome? Double Yes! One of the best looking irons I've ever seen at address. But, compared to my S56's they feel terrible. They are a good club longer than my irons but the sound and harsh feeling I got from them was bad. And there aren't a whole lot of guys here that love Ping stuff more than me. I then tried the I210's and they felt very nice but they just spin way too much for me. I suppose I could have ordered them with power lofts but I can't justify spending that kind of money unless I see a big difference in performance. I might try them again down the road to see if I get a different result but for now my old Pings are safely in my bag.

Wow, that's too bad. What kind of balls were you hitting? Indoors? I agree that the feel is not great but I wasn't that put off by them and there are too many benefits to let that ruin them for me....but you don't need a club like this like I do, especially since you're in love with what you're already playing. Strangely, I had the same first impression with the iBlade. Then I hit them about a year later and was stunned at how much I liked the feel. This troubles me coming from one of the best feeling clubs around (BS Tour B). Luckily, not all of us have that feedback and it's good that it's as subjective as it is. What shaft were you using, or did you try them all?

I was hitting decent range balls. I test everything I buy off turf outside because the info you get off sims is skewed and you really have no idea how the club is going to react in a real round of golf. I tried the Dynamic Gold 120 in stiff and regular and the KBS Tour in stiff which is what is in my S56's. I'd love to get the extra distance but it was just too high of a price to pay for 10 yards. It pi$$es me off because I had the money in my pocket!! :( I did come home with a new G400 driver though! :)

Which G400/shaft did you buy? That may be next. It’s looking like I’m heading for an all Ping bag after years of being a 7-brand man.

I hit the i500 outdoors today (no LM data) with rock hard range balls. I took my G400 7 iron so I could do a direct back-to-back comparison. I tested the i500 with the DG 120 S300. My G40O’s have DG 105. Here’s my thoughts between the two:

• launch and height was very similar. No real discernible difference between them.

• sound and feel- very similar. I didn’t find the i500 to be notably louder or more harsh than G400. Again, this was with hard range balls, premium balls may be a different story.

• forgivenesses- again, no notable difference. I hit a few with each club a little toward the toe side, and neither punished more than the other.

• distance- no hard numbers here being outdoors with no monitor, but looked to be landing within 5 yards of each other. Probably a toss up.

• spin- no idea about this one.

•looks- i500 BY A MILE!!!

Overall, I think I could switch to the i500 and not give up anything, but probably not gain anything either... other than a better looking set of irons in the bag!!
